Haven is a stunning home with fabulous spaces to enjoy, from beautiful gardens and ensuite bedrooms, to a hair salon, welcoming lounges and a library.

But it’s the team, who are devoted to enriching the lives of their residents, that make it feel like home. The way they support family and friends to be part of life in the home is very special, giving it a very warm, family feel. The staff are passionate about ensuring their residents are doing the things they love in an environment which is as close to home as it possibly can be.

And the community are truly embraced into life at Haven. At the recent 10th anniversary party, many of the guests were the loved ones and friends of residents, neighbours and community volunteers. And the Vicar of Hatch End even blessed the home as part of the celebrations, which also included a delicious barbecue, a magician and live music.

There is so much to do at Haven, from music, pamper sessions, garden games and gentle exercise sessions, to bespoke individual activities and reminiscence sessions.

Providing residential and dementia care, the team also provide respite care breaks, which can be booked in advance. These are ideal for carers who need to plan a short break themselves, knowing their loved one is in safe hands.

The home has established wonderful relationships with local schools and colleges, embracing youngsters into life at Haven, whether through work experience placements or inviting them to perform music or dances for the residents.

This summer the gardens were completely transformed, and the residents loved taking part in the gardening club, where they grew their own fruit and vegetables, which they harvested to use in the kitchens.

And mealtimes are a real highlight of the day, with delicious home-cooked cuisine, from roast dinners with all the trimmings and fish and chip Fridays, to lighter options and home-baking for afternoon tea.

Despite some residents having challenging symptoms, both management and staff show compassion and try their best to develop relationships with all; and are patient and understanding.
There are a number of organised activities which all are encouraged to join in.
Good quality food is provided at meal
times with sufficient variety in the menu to meet most needs.

I was looking for respite care for my elderly mum whilst we were on holiday. Mum had gone through a period of illness leading up to her stay so it was very important to choose a home that would not only look after mum but boost her confidence.
I cannot speak highly enough for the wonderful care and
support given to my mother. She is much stronger and more self-assured after her stay.

Being in the position of having to make the decision that your mother needs to go into a care home is awful. Having visited many homes and becoming more and more depressed and unsure, I then walked into the Haven care home and immediately felt that 'this is right!'. I was welcomed by the manager and
he took me around the home where, for the first time, I was openly encouraged to talk to the residents and their families and ask anything! The carers are brilliant, patient and understanding, taking time to get to know the individual and their funny little ways. They keep you well informed. Mum is able to have some happy times in a safe, caring environment.

I had a lot of difficulties finding a home that met the needs of my mother. This home was recommended to me. On calling, I got an interview immediately. It was exactly what I was looking for. It was also in an area where it was easy to drive to and get parking and also transportation to the home was
convenient. The premises are well kept and clean, the manager and all the staff are caring, polite and interact with all the residents. They also get to know all those who come to visit the residents and make time for you and any concerns you have, they'll address it.

The Haven has treated my father with care and dignity throughout his four and a half years here. They looked after him beautifully as he deteriorated in health and passed away peacefully. They supported us as family and shared our grief. We could not have wished for more.

My mother was only in Haven Residential Care Home for some 3-4 months before she passed away but they were probably the best days for her since my dad died 4 years ago. She was very well looked after by caring and professional staff and although she was very shy by nature, they helped encourage her
to take part in activities and interact with other residents and despite her medium level Alzheimer's, she responded to this and it helped her overall level of contentment there.

I found the manager to be extremely efficient and helpful at all times and he created a very friendly and happy atmosphere which showed on all the staff. My husband was very happy and even with his anxiety attacks, he was beginning to settle down.

(My mum was in there for 3 years until she died in August 2016). The Haven is a nice home in a quiet residential street. The home is modern, with excellent facilities and light, pleasant en-suite rooms. Food is also good. The staff are individually nice and caring. A number of activities are arranged,
but staff are not very proactive in persuading residents with mild dementia to join in. For a relative, communications are difficult - I never felt that a message to one staff member reached others, and in 3 years I never understood who was a team leader or a designated carer. Overall, a good home, but I never felt the management realised that it was charging a lot and relatives were entitled to expect it to be excellent.

As you mentioned we have lots of activities going on which are tailored to what our residents enjoy doing and while we do encourage all of our residents to take part, sometimes it is their choice not to and we have to respect that. With regards to our team we have different coloured uniforms for each role as well as name badges which our residents and their loved ones find very helpful. We also have each residents’ key worker details in their bedroom, with these staff attending regular reviews with them and their loved ones and any communications between relatives and staff are also clearly documented in our residents’ care plans for other staff to see. If you would like to speak to me about it further though I would be very happy to hear from you.

My mother arrived here straight from hospital and was overwhelmed by the friendly welcome. She has been here just over a month and has settled in really well. The room is lovely with a good double wardrobe which means most of her clothes fit in! The staff are friendly and caring. There are also enough
of them to go round and cater to all the residents needs. I have been impressed by the whole home and would recommend it to friends with parents in a similar position to my mum.
