Groveland Park care home in Bexleyheath takes pride in offering residents luxury living and exceptional care. Opening in late 2013, Groveland Park has been given a carehome.co.uk Top 20 Award for London in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. The home provides residential, dementia, day and respite care in a wonderful setting, with the home surrounded by private gardens.

The home is tastefully decorated and boasts large bedrooms, complete with en-suite bathrooms, along with generously proportioned lounges. There’s plenty of space to take time out for yourself or join in with the fun at Groveland Park.
Staff encourage residents to take part in a variety of social activities, organised by the dedicated events coordinator, making film nights in the cinema room, jazz nights in the bistro and wine-tasting sessions in the dining room a regular occurrence.

The pricing policy at Groveland Park is all-inclusive, and a single weekly fee covers all care, all facilities and all events. This includes the bar bistro, fine dining and entertainment.

All staff are so welcoming in this care home, they make sure all residents feel happy and at home. She's well looked after and all her needs are met. The facilities are amazing. The range of daily activities ensures all have something to enjoy and look forward to. Overall, it is a fantastic home.

My father came to Groveland Park Care Home in February this year. I cannot speak highly enough of the staff and the level of care provided. It's so reassuring to know that Dad is being looked after so well. I am also made to feel so welcome when visiting Dad. We've just had a meal together in the bistro
- excellent.

My mother-in-law was due to stay here for 2 weeks of respite care. I had to take her out a week early.
The alarm system went off all day every day. The food was very poor, sandwich and mouse for dinner, dry chicken for dinner with salad. One day our friends were visiting and they witnessed my mother-in-law
ask for a tomato or pickle to go with the plain cheese sandwich, the staff said no we do not have it.
She was not invited to join in with any activities. One day she had to wait more than an hour for paracetamol. We sent her in with a medication list from the GP, it says paracetamol as and when required, we also sent her in with paracetamol.
She paid £1950 a week for respite care, thus isn't good value for money at all.

We cater to individual requests and always ensure that our stock levels allow for that, our recent resident meeting complimented the catering team and the provision of food. Families appreciate our fine dining and Bistro service to allow them to share a meal with their loved ones. We encourage residents and their families to express any concerns as and when they arise.

We booked my mother into this facility for two weeks respite recently. We ended up taking her out a week early. Although most of the staff were pleasant to her, the care and the facilities did not meet our expectations. We were advised that the chef could make her whatever she wanted to eat, however,
this did not happen. Sometimes dinner was just a plain cheese sandwich and a mousse. Our friends were visiting when my mother-in-law asked for tomato or pickle to go with the plain cheese sandwich, the staff said no sorry no pickle or tomato.


Some days it would be almost midday before she got a shower. The most annoying thing was the noise the buzzer system was beeping all day every day. We were promised that there would be activities, my mother was asked to join in very limited activities such as playing cards.
This care home does not provide good value for money at all. I emailed them a care plan for her detailing her requirements for the stay, but this was not followed at all.

Our care is very much led by our residents, and we look after them in a way that they themselves want to be looked after, providing care at times that they choose. Our residents are offered to participate in the events in the home and on a one-to-one level with the events team and care staff.
We keep comprehensive records which provide evidence of all points of care including your points mentioned and are happy to hold regular reviews with families as we fully appreciate that some residents may take time settling into a new environment.
We encourage residents and their families to express any concerns as and when they arise, this assists us to provide reassurance as well as resolve concerns as they arise. After all, we will be learning about the resident during the early weeks of any stay.

Both Mum and Dad went and stayed at Grovelands for two weeks of respite care whilst my brother and I were away on holiday. The level of care provided was excellent and I felt completely confident that they were both happy and safe. Mum loved it so much she wants to just go back and be there permanently!
The staff were lovely and treated them with kindness and respect.

It was our first visit to my grandmother with my young daughters today since the pandemic kicked off. And such was our experience I felt compelled to leave this review.
From before we entered the door, the smile and welcome and standard of “customer/client care” was exceptional. I understand it was
two staff members that looked after us from reception to being set up in the bistro. Both of them, I felt, went above and beyond and made the experience exceptional. We have asked Groveland management to let them both know the difference it makes. They were attentive without being over the top but also offered things and a service that was beyond what I’ve experienced before, even with their previous very high standards. Thank you, Groveland, please continue the great work.

My sister first came to stay at Groveland at the end of September 2021. I needed help with her as my husband was facing major surgery. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and understanding.
After ten days at Groveland, she was so happy that she agreed to stay permanently.
I have nothing but
praise for every member of staff. I have always been met with smiles and, I feel they are always willing to go the extra mile.
There is a full programme of interesting activities every week and varied outings which, I know, she loves.
The food is of a high standard and individual needs are catered for.
All in all, I can't think of anywhere (given her needs), that I would rather her be.
I know she is safe and above all happy.

Our mother has been a resident in Groveland Park for 9 months now and we have seen a number of changes in the management team within that time. We are very happy with the team now in place and find them approachable, accommodating and very supportive. They in turn are supported by a great team, who
have shown our mum nothing but the greatest respect and care. It's a huge peace of mind for us that she is so well looked after and if we do have any concerns about Mum's health and wellbeing they are there with reassurance and assistance.

My mum has been a resident in Groveland Park for just over a year now. All the staff are absolutely lovely and very kind to my mum, me and sister. They have been under a huge strain this last year with all the Covid rules and regulations, with the added pressure of members of staff having to isolate,
yet still maintain the standards and kindness. Today, I had the pleasure of eating lunch with my mum and sampled the residents’ meals first-hand. The haddock melted in the mouth and the peach sponge was delicious. I leave the home after visiting knowing my mum is in very safe hands.

My mother became a permanent resident in December 2021, after a period of respite care. She is absolutely loving being there, the staff are very friendly and caring, they do not push her into joining in the many and varied activities but support her decisions.
Often when I am on the phone with her,
members of staff come into the room and I can hear them laughing and joking, they treat her as if she was a member of their own family.
Of course, there have been a few minor problems but they have always been dealt with promptly.
Our family are so pleased that we chose Groveland.

My mum moved into her new residence last week. The manager and her team have been very friendly and helpful from the start. They have made the upheaval of moving from the family home so much easier and made Mum feel at ease with everything. They carry out their day to day duties in such an informal
way that it pretty much feels like home from home.

I was very impressed with how welcome Groveland's staff made my neighbour feel and the time they have since taken to get to know her. She was quite anxious about going but has settled well and has had nothing but praise for all the staff. She is enjoying all the activities and says she feels very much
“at home” there. It is a delight to see her relaxed and happy and to know that any queries or concerns will be discussed and addressed if required. It is a joy to visit her there.

Grovelands has undergone a number of staff changes recently with a completely new and capable management team now in place. Issues relating to the Covid-19 lockdown and restrictions on visiting have been difficult on everyone but I have found the present team very accommodating. I was able to attend
a hospital appointment with my resident mum - we were driven by the deputy who had arranged for packed lunches which we all enjoyed together outside in the sunshine. All current staff are approachable, caring and very friendly. Their dedication is evident. These are early days but the signs are all positive. For those of us who have very long distances to travel in order to visit our loved ones, trust in those who care for them is vital. I will submit a further review in six months.

After viewing several care homes we settled on Groveland Park. At our initial visit, we found all the staff so friendly, we were allowed time to view all the facilities without any pressure. Our aunt is now in the home and she does not stop telling us just how well she is treated by everyone.

This year I have found it difficult to answer this review due to lockdown and not being able to see my partner. The home, I find is an expensive provision that can offer a lot, but yet, the reality of that for me and my family communication has not been satisfactory and felt shut out at times. This
last year, I personally have noticed a vast deterioration in him and looking very sad at times, especially when he has not been shaved for three days - and, sometimes his attire is not good. I feel that maybe they should have more carers. His glasses and watch (one only brought at Christmas) have been missing over the last few months, though I have asked about these items many times.

Caroline Cheeseman

Caroline Cheeseman began her career in the care industry 20 years ago in the NHS enjoying her role as a Care Assistant in A&E where she worked for 5 years. She then transferred to the private sector as a home manager where she has cared for residents with nursing, residential and dementia needs adopting a person-centred, holistic approach to support physical and mental wellbeing.


Caroline is very much a hands-on manager who prides herself in getting to know each resident and their family to ensure that the best level of high-quality care and support is provided to everyone, believing that our residents are at the heart of everything that we do.
