Orchid Care Home is located at the heart of the community in Haydon Wick. They are delighted that in November 2024 Orchid Care Home was rated as 'Outstanding' by CQC.

Orchid Care Home is very much the residents' home and the well being of the residents is at the centre of every decision made, through collaboration with the residents, staff and visitors. Residents are invited to personalise their rooms, and family and friends are invited to visit at any time suitable for their loved one. CCTV in communal areas provides an additional reassurance.

Orchid Care Home's team of nurses, carers and activities coordinators aim to provide holistic, person-centred care to the residents, which is adapted as the care needs of each resident changes, to ensure each resident lives a fulfilled life.

At a time of unexpected health needs, my family researched various options and we chose Orchid Care Home. It has been a very good decision for my wife and I to come here - initially on respite basis that has now become a lasting basis.
From senior managers, nurses, senior and junior carers, activity
providers the attitude of care is very clear and welcome. A team owners can be proud of, and I can trust.

My mum decided to give up and not eat or drink. The excellent staff did do their utmost to get Mum to eat but it was the one last decision Mum could make for herself.
When we knew Mum was on end of life, all the staff allowed me to move into Mum's room as I don't live in Swindon.
They made me comfortable
with a great reclining chair, they couldn't do enough to make my time with Mum the best ever.
The staff were beyond kind and compassionate not only to Mum and myself, but to see firsthand how they treated all the residents was truly amazing. They go out of their way to help and care and I would go as far as to say it's not just a job to the staff but a pleasure for them to care for their residents.
The home is kept very clean and tidy and the food is amazing.
To be totally honest it's like a 5-star hotel and although my three days with Mum were sad everyone made them special.

My mum has been in Orchid Care Home for a few years now and is over 90 - thanks to the nursing care she receives. There are so many positives I can't write them all down. Every staff member is wonderful, the home is a community for families as well as residents. It was a great relief to us all when
the current manager came back and together with the other management team have the place running like a top. I feel guilty that I am not looking after my mum myself, but know that her needs are greater than my capabilities and my mum is in safe and caring hands. I only hope Orchid Care Home is still operating when if I need care in my final years.

The staff ensure they meet the needs of each individual resident and keep them entertained and comfortable. They keep me up to date with developments in mum's health care. Mum made the transition from living independently to needing care with ease and understanding.

I am really pleased with my sister's care home choice, Orchid House. There isn't a thing they can't do for anyone! If a problem Orchid will solve it. Staff I know are busy and under pressure. To make the residents happy and comfortable but achieve it on a regular basis.
Volunteers and staff always
have activities going on. Not all, I notice, will participate. Families are kept in the picture with the newsletter and social media. Which is great.

Having been in the Orchid Care Home for a few months the difference in my dad is amazing.
The staff go way beyond the call of duty to help and have been brilliant.
Their care has improved his mental health immensely and I cannot thank them enough. The reassurance of knowing he is in safe hands goes
a long way.

I could not praise the staff and their way of going out of their way to help. It was my Dads 100th birthday. They gave us use of a room for a family get together. They had decorated the room, made the lovely cake and all the carers and management came in to wish Dad a happy birthday.

On the celebration of my father's 100th birthday, we were very pleased with the assistance given by the care home's management and my father's immediate carers, in making his day a very memorable one for him and his family. This is especially so following the recent Covid pandemic and the restrictions
imposed on the staff. The room, cake and decorations provided by the home were lovely gestures and we all thoroughly enjoyed the party, as did my father.

The Orchid team exceeded expectations in supporting us to celebrate my father's very special birthday. The catering team supplied a tasty well-decorated cake, tea and coffee. We were given use of the cinema room, which was well decorated with banners, balloons and appropriate music organised by the
activities leader. The home manager's leadership of the happy and attentive team made the day and gives my father a comfortable, safe environment to live in.

My mother was cared for wonderfully in this care home for almost four years. She was very happy, contented and loved there. The care and the staff were fabulous. She recently passed away, and in her last few days, they were wonderful to Mum and to me.

All staff are friendly, helpful, and dedicated. The car park is often full, including the disabled bay making it difficult with a wheelchair and hoist. Rooms are of a reasonable size and kept clean and tidy. The activities programme is particularly good (very varied). The food is good and plentiful
and the coffee shop is a welcome addition. We would like better communication regarding Mum's personal care, dentistry, chiropody, GP etc. Fees are high and regularly increased.

We are limited with parking due to our location, unfortunately, but we do make sure that the disabled bay is used appropriately. Please let us know if you have any further problems with this. We do have to increase our fees sometimes, but we do aim to keep it to a minimum. In terms of communication, families are invited to participate in monthly reviews, but staff or management are always happy to discuss a resident’s progress at any time.

My mother joined the home in October 2021 the staff have all been helpful, kind and explained everything to us. She has challenging behaviour, this has been addressed with empathy. Each and every staff member has spoken with us to assure and explain things and the way forward to help her. We have been
in contact with home management team at all times, they regularly speak/email us on any updates. A kind and caring team.

We always find staff and management approachable, friendly, helpful and caring. Importantly, our mum likes them and gets on well with them and has built good relationships with those that care for her. There is always lots of activities which are varied - catering to all skill levels and during the
pandemic, photos have been posted on social media to keep us up-to-date and we have had video calls with Mum weekly when we couldn't visit. Mum always says how much she enjoys the food - lots of pictures confirm this.

Both of my Grandparents live here, bluebell is great for my Grandmother as she has advanced Alzheimer's. She's managed to make friends and has plenty to keep her busy, she's clearly eating well and maintaining much better hygiene than she could at home. My Grandfather has struggled to adapt to living
in a long-term care. Despite this, the staff have been wonderful with him. My Mum has had a long and difficult journey with her parents needing care for the first time, the staff have been understanding and have maintained excellent communication with her. I work in healthcare, I'd be happy to work here and am happy my family is living in this home. Although their health is declining, they are clearly both well cared for and I'm so relieved they have found somewhere to spend the end of their lives, especially as the home can accommodate their vastly different needs. This means they can live on different floors, and see eachother when it suits them.

We as a family are grateful to have got Mum into Orchid Care Home. Mums last years were mostly happy. Mum had dementia and was treated with love, kindness and compassion throughout her stay. The carers are amazing, they activities great, food was good. Mums room was clean and Mum always looked her best.
We could not ask for anything more. Mum was loved and cared for by the home until the end.

I would like to leave a review for Orchid Care Home and their team of staff. I have been visiting the home for a few years in different capacities as a professional and now a son of a service user. I am a former registered care home manager and an IMCA that used to regularly visit clients that were
subject to DOLS whilst residing in the home. In that role, I visited many care homes and was always impressed with the standard of care being provided at Orchid. I always used to personally judge a home based on whether or not I would like one of my parents to reside in it and I always felt that Orchid would be a suitable home for them if they ever needed it. Well, that day finally came. My father has Huntington's Disease and the time came that he needed residential nursing care. The staff have been amazing, Dad is so happy, being well cared for and putting on weight. I cannot fault or thank all the staff enough. They really do go above and beyond for everyone.

My father-in-law enjoyed over six months of care at the Orchid before he died. The care was exceptional. Staff were kind, happy and so caring. They really bonded with my FIL and him to them. The range of activities for residents is wide, always something to keep them interested and occupied if they
were able. The home is clean, modern and in an attractive residential area. Sadly my FIL died recently but the end of life care was amazing. Yes, it is very expensive but the care was the very best.

I do not think there is enough attention to detail for individuals. It costs a lot of money and I feel lots of things are overlooked eg I always have to get Mum's glasses and hearing aid for her. I don't feel there is enough personal attention to stop loneliness. She has dementia so does not know how
to put on the radio or TV or remember to drink enough. I know they're all busy but I feel more could be done to make it better and for me to recommend you.
