Maples Care Home is a purpose-built nursing home, set over 3 floors in a residential area of Bexleyheath.

The home has been carefully designed to offer all the facilities that residents would expect from a modern nursing home while retaining a warm, homely and relaxed feel.

Maples has a total of 75 ensuite bedrooms that are spacious and comfortably furnished. Residents are encouraged to personalise their room with pictures, family photographs and belongings of their choice.

Dedicated nursing and care staff are on hand on each floor 24/7, and the key worker system means that residents will always have a friendly and familiar face looking out for them.

The home provides person-centred nursing, palliative, respite and dementia care. Dementia care at Maples supports independence, reduces anxiety and ensures that residents feel comfortable and can enjoy the best possible quality of life.

The communal areas provide a mix of quiet spaces where residents can sit and relax or chat with visitors (who are welcome at any time) and larger areas where the home holds a variety of daily activities. A dedicated salon provides on-site hairdressing facilities.

Along with the rest of the home, the large, landscaped garden at Maples is fully wheelchair accessible and offers a relaxed and safe environment with plenty of seating space.

Mum moved into Maples during lockdown. Despite the restrictions, Maples staff did all they could to make her welcome and to make me feel welcome and involved. She settled in and enjoys the company of other residents and staff, and loves it when there are activities organised in the lounge.
The rooms
are comfortable and well-maintained and are always spotless.
I always feel welcome when I visit and have positive and friendly interactions with the staff.
Mum has become relaxed and comfortable in her surroundings and it is lovely to feel she is looked after, cared for and cared about as an individual and that I do not have to worry about her in the care of the Maples team.

My dad became a resident in December 2021 having lived on his own for many years and was very anxious about the move. Everyone was so kind and helpful that he settled in really quickly and is very happy he made the move, in fact, he now says he should have done it sooner!
Everyone I have been in contact
with has been very approachable and helpful, they are very friendly to my dad and treat him with respect.
We are both very happy with his care.

Everyone is extremely friendly and kind. My father has always been treated with kindness and affection. Whenever we ask him if he's happy and comfortable he always says yes and that he is being well looked after. As a visitor and my mother as a former resident we are always made to feel very welcome.
There is always a positive and cheerful atmosphere. I would recommend Maples very highly. The manager is excellent.

I visited my mother-in-law on her 100th birthday at the end of December. Despite all best efforts, when I arrived the home had had to be closed to visitors due to an immediate covid outbreak! The wonderful manager knew I’d travelled a long way and found a way for me to see my relative. She was kept
totally safe at all times and her carer was so wonderfully kind to her and me. I couldn’t fault their commitment to my mother-in-law and also to me. Bravo team ..you made both our days! Thank you so much for all your kindness. The team is exceptional each time I visit and my mother-in-law is happy and very well cared for. A wonderful home with a very kind and compassionate team led by a wonderfully caring manager! Very impressed.

The manager and staff were totally amazing today in allowing us despite COVID lockdown to be able to see my mum on her 100th Birthday - to allow us to take photos we will have forever of her card from the Queen, of family groups safely stood on the other side of the glass so she was COVID safe but in
our family photos. Staff were explaining, encouraging and helping her - fantastic.

Although Mum was not in the nursing care of Maples for long, we cannot fault the care and support we all received. This started with enquires when it was deemed that Mum needed nursing care. The receptionist and administrator were super efficient answering all the questions we needed answering.
When
Mum arrived we couldn’t fault the nursing care she received by the staff on Sunflower, they kept us informed of how she was especially when we were unable to visit.
As a family we couldn’t have asked for a more welcoming place for Mum to spend her last days.

My husband was diagnosed with dementia in 2017, had a stroke in 2019 and broke a hip in 2020. He became a resident of Maples in February 2021 and settled in very well. The staff are very caring and kind to him and he enjoys the food, drinks and snacks which are provided throughout the day. His clothes
are generally clean when I visit. I feel that he is safe and comfortable.
The Relatives Gateway information I find isn't always accurate regarding personal care. I have bought this to the attention of the duty nurses several times and in the short term he has been respectably presented but there is no continuity in this respect.
I spoke recently to the manager and new clinical manager about these disappointing aspects and have been assured that appropriate action will be taken.

My aunt became a resident of Maples following six weeks in hospital. At that time she was very poorly, unable to manage herself and unable to mobilise. She required double handling and the use of a hoist. The staff have worked well to support her. It's now seven months after she became a resident. She
is able to stand and walk a few steps, as well as move herself around in a limited way, in her wheelchair. This is all fantastic and the staff should be commended for the help they have given.
The resident gateway was really helpful in keeping us aware of her situation when we were not allowed to visit due to Covid. The gateway can be confusing as some entries appear to be repeated and some aspects not or are inaccurately logged.
The challenge for my aunt has been losing her independence and needing to rely on staff who have not been immediately available for her particular needs. Staff have not always communicated clearly their situation and when they could attend to her needs.

I’ve always found the home to be very caring and professional. I have confidence in the staff regarding my father's care needs and he is very happy there. He is a particularly high need resident and needs help with all day to day care, the staff are very patient with him and happy to do it.

In July, my 86 year old father was admitted to hospital in Hertfordshire. The doctor in the hospital told me he was at end of life care and he was expected to die within two weeks. Somehow he hung on and I was therefore able to arrange a transfer to a care home in London to be nearer family.


What

an absolute blessing and joy my dad ended up in Maples Care Home! Two months later, my dad is doing amazingly. He is in bed, watching TV, doing puzzle books. He is still at end of life, but I have had all these extra, wonderful weeks. I am so grateful to everyone at Maples as I believe the care he has received has led to such an unexpected outcome.


There are so many people working at Maples who are all looking after the residents and keeping them safe. The first people I met were the admin team at reception, who were friendly and efficient. Everyone has all truly been so wonderful. Thank you so much, everyone!

This care home is a really good option for anyone looking for a place where they will be cared for with compassion and kindness. It is clean and has a great atmosphere but the best thing is that relatives and residents alike are treated with dignity and respect.


We came to the home at a very difficult

time and it was such a relief to feel that my brother was being cared for so well. He settled in quickly and after having several stays in hospital his general sense of wellbeing improved once settled.

Our mum was taken to Maples from the hospital for respite care after breaking her knee and sustaining another fall at home. We were only allowed to visit a few times due to covid regulations which we fully appreciate. However, on my first visit I found her with only a cardigan on no undergarments and
a dirty skirt (we had provided ample clothes for her) however when I looked in her wardrobe there were no other clean clothes. Also, the room had crumbs over the floor, clearly not been cleaned and her newspaper was stuck to the portable table has clearly been there a few days. Lastly, she had a fall while in the home, we were not notified and only found out that she had been admitted to hospital after Social Services rang us about another matter and asked how she was! This was five days after the fall and we had been to the care home two days prior to drop off our mum's case as she was due to come home and were not told even then that she was not there.

Your mother’s electronic care records show that her personal care was dealt with often, whenever she requested it, and she was always helped to dress/undress. Our records show that her room was cleaned daily, with regular Covid-19 environmental safety checks undertaken. It appears that your visit occurred before that day’s clean. You say you were not notified immediately that your mother was in hospital after her fall. This was because the number you provided to us was for her personal phone instead of yours. We reported the fall to Safeguarding and discussed with you the mix-up in phone numbers, which you acknowledged and were satisfied with. You made no complaints regarding the support she received and we only became aware of the issues through this review. So we were unable to address them. We will write to you with more formal details, as requested. We would, however, like to wish you, your mother and your family well for the future.

When my father was first placed in this service there were concerns around his safety and the ability of the staffing team and management support team. Whilst I believe those involved were "doing their best" their best wasn't good enough, there was limited experience and skills within the care teams
and the clinical/deputy managers were in-experienced. There were issues/safe guarding's and investigations into my father's and others care at one time.
However, I would like to say that when the current home manager arrived, within quite a short time with the support of the interim manager supporting we quickly felt much better about my father's care and that the improvements made were effective, quickly undertaken and person-centred to him.
I would also say that throughout the whole time my father was at The Maples the clinical manager was an exceptional clinician with outstanding skills and humanity in what was often very difficult circumstances.

My mum was at the Maples Care Home from February 2021 for end-of-life palliative care. She got transferred from hospice. I can honestly say hand on heart that my mum was loved and cared for to the end of her time. The staff kept my mum clean and cared for her 24/7. She was given respect and dignity.
We were kept informed on portal every day of her progress. The staff were very friendly and polite on all occasions and cared for us as a family. I am pleased my mum was in the Maples as they are 1st class.

I can not fault Maples. My mum has been there since August 2019. After coming from a really bad care home. Maples is like a breath of fresh air. My mum is well looked after, staff are lovely. Since COVID I haven’t been able to see my mum since March. But I have regular Skype calls, I am kept up to date
with everything and can also see my mum's daily care online. So even tho I can’t visit, I still feel close to her and I’m not worried about her at all. My mum looks so well compared to a year ago before she came to Maples. I do not understand why the CQC report is inadequate. Thank you Maples!

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Nicola is a registered nurse and nutritional lead who joined our sister home, Mayflower Care Home, as Deputy Manager in 2006 and was promoted to Registered Manager in 2017.


In November 2023, Nicola moved across to Maples Care Home bringing with her a wealth of experience of delivering quality care.
