My father needed the services of a Care home as he was becoming very unwell. From the start of his stay the staff went above and beyond to accommodate his various requests and took the time to ask us about him and his life and what interested him so they could make a connection whilst he stayed at Brook
Court. Despite his rapidly declining health, they constantly kept us in the loop were always on hand to answer our many questions and during our visits took the time to talk to us, check our own needs and made us tea and snacks, delivered just at the right moment!
Our family have no doubt Dad was absolutely in the best place for the last few weeks of his life. He died peacefully. The nursing staff were so kind, gentle and understanding of his last few hours and could not have been more kind and genuine to ourselves during a difficult and sensitive time. We were so lucky to have chosen Brook Court for Dad. Thank you to the staff for their kindness and support.

My father-in-law lived at Brook Court for the last 7 months of his life having moved from another provider we were very unhappy with. The home is always clean and tidy. Meals are catered for individual needs. The staff at Brook Court are really caring, sensitive to need and very respectful of residents,
treating them with dignity. It is entirely down to the care that my father-in-law received from the staff that his life was extended beyond what was expected. Staff are approachable, warm and friendly, not only to residents but also to families. I have felt very supported by staff during the difficult time of my father-in-law passing away. Especial thanks to his carers for their kindness during a very sad time for us as a family.

My mom has been at Brook Court for nearly two years. She is a resident on the dementia unit and is treated extremely well. I can't praise the staff highly enough. They know her inside out and any concerns are dealt with quickly. She maintains some freedom and is given choices. They support us as a family
also, giving updates and telling stories about what they have been up to.
Not one for arts and crafts, jigsaws etc., lifestyle staff involve Mom in other daily tasks to keep her involved and engaged in new things. They also offer day trips and visits to garden centres and try to grant residents "wishes" from the wishing tree, big or small.
Rooms and communal areas are exceptionally clean and tidy, thanks to an amazing housekeeping and maintenance team. The hairdressing service and chiropodist offer the chance for residents to feel proud of their appearance. We use both services and it makes us, as a family, happy that she is her best.

Both our parents have been at Brook Court for over two years, and in that time have consistently received excellent care, both Mum in Brinton (nursing) and Dad in Brockway. The staff are conscientious and genuinely very caring, and they have helped Mum and Dad be together as much possible in this vulnerable
and fragile stage in their lives. Dad feels very much at home, loves his carers and the activities team, and is happy and enjoys a good quality of life. He enjoys the activities, and also appreciates quiet times in his lovely garden room when he wishes to be alone for a while. Mum receives warm and friendly nursing care. The nurses are very approachable, and we are kept informed of all developments. We are confident they are receiving the best care they can.

I would fully recommend Brook Court for care of your loved ones, the staff are very attentive and caring to all residents. They care for the residents with dignity and respect. The resident I support as a friend previously had care in his own home which was not adequate and he was basically a prisoner
in his own home. He is so happy in the home and is looked after exceptionally well, where previously he was depressed and withdrawn. The social interaction at the care home is brilliant, there are regular events and craft groups to help residents interact. The team from management to receptionists are all fully supportive and when concerns or requests are made they are acted on.

Brook Court Care Home is everything you would want for your loved ones. People who really care! Everyone who works at Brook Court genuinely cares about your loved one; they give them the care and love they deserve. Nothing is too much trouble for their residents.
My dad was in another nursing home
before Brook Court so I do have something to compare it with.
Thank you to everyone who works at Brook Court for everything you do for my dad.

One visit I found my father shaking in a t-shirt and sat in a draughty area. He was ill and I took him back to his room and asked why they had not called a Doctor. They eventually called a doctor. The next day he collapsed and was admitted to Hospital. I was advised he was not only dehydrated but emaciated
and had pneumonia. I was horrified and gave notice to the home that day.

Mum spent four weeks in respite care over the Christmas and New Year period. She is registered with severe sight impairment but was encouraged to take meals with and interact with the staff and residents. Mum enjoyed her stay but felt that as it was the festive season there could have been more entertainment
laid on. She was taken out with family for Christmas Day and to hair appointment, had fun with staff.

Reply from Samantha Debenham, PA to Marketing Director at Brook Court

We are delighted to hear that your mother enjoyed her respite stay with us over Christmas. At Brook Court, our lifestyle team work to ensure there is always a variety of activities on offer each day, including over the festive season. We also recognise that many residents will be visiting friends and family over the holidays, as well as loved ones coming into the home for their own celebrations. Our team will always work to accommodate this, as well as offering more one-to-one and smaller group activities for those wanting to get involved.

Before being admitted to Brook Court Care Home my mother was struggling with all aspects of daily living, as well as being very lonely.
Since her admission she has been very well cared for, the carers meeting her physical and mental health needs.
The staff encourage her to eat a well-balanced diet
and care for her personal hygiene needs by encouraging regular showers and hair care.
She enjoys sitting in the lounge with other residents - there are always carers there to chat to and provide activities.
I now have peace of mind knowing her care needs are being met, she is happy and very content.
Mom is treated as an individual and the carers report any changes to me in her physical or mental condition.

Brook Court Care Home are excellent - the staff are so caring and treat the residents with respect and as individuals. My dad has changing needs and this is constantly being monitored and addressed. I am kept informed of anything that happens and feel included in all aspects of his care. But as well
as looking after him, they also make sure he is active and engaged, thriving rather than just surviving. Deciding how best to care for someone with dementia is very stressful, so having experts like Brook Court takes away that stress in the main. Thank you.

As a family, we are extremely satisfied with the treatment my partner is receiving. All staff are caring and thoughtful, treat residents with great respect, do not patronise and safety is of paramount importance. They are calm and caring in often very difficult circumstances. Whatever they are paid
is very well deserved and while it is an expensive care home, hope they get what they well deserve.

Since my mum joined Brook Court, she has gained back her dignity and self-respect. While she still needs 24/7 care, there has been much improvement in how she presents. My family and I cannot thank the nurses, care assistants and administration team enough for their understanding and care. I have been
able to sleep for the first time in over twelve months, knowing she is safe and well looked after. Thank you!

My aunt received end-of-life care for just over a week in June 2022. She was transferred from hospital, where we had to fight for her to receive even a basic level of care. It was such a relief to find that from the very beginning to the end of her care, Brook Court were amazing. The environment is
lovely - clean and comfortable. All the staff were kind, caring and professional. We spent a lot of time there and were always treated with compassion and respect. Nothing was too much trouble for them - from supporting us, to meeting all my aunt's needs promptly and skillfully. My aunt was too poorly to take advantage of the facilities, but I was impressed with what was on offer for those who could. They have a fully functioning hairdressers, a beautiful garden area and a space for residents and families to sit and have a complimentary hot drink and a cake/pastry. The resident greyhound, would pop in to see my aunt, who as a dog lover enjoyed seeing her. I would absolutely recommend to all.

My dad came to Brook Court on Monday 6th June after having been in hospital for seven weeks.
We came to have a look around first and we were so impressed with the lovely rooms, facilities and wonderful staff. Two members of staff, in particular, have been absolutely brilliant and we are so thankful
for their help and support. The nursing staff are wonderful and caring and nothing is too much trouble. We are so grateful to them for their patience and support during what has been a very difficult time. Thank you to everyone.

From the minute my mother moved into the home I felt relief that my 91 parent was in a safe, comfortable, clean, and friendly environment.
The staff are fantastic and despite covid limitations, they still managed a few projects to keep the residents happy.
After 7 weeks my mother was sad to leave;
should circumstances change we will be back.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.405)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.405) out of 10 for Brook Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.833 for Brook Court is calculated as follows: ( (85 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 102 Ratings = 4.833

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.572 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Brook Court is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 67 registered maximum number of service users is 13.4. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 13.4 = 0.672

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Shirley Summerbell

Job Title: Home Manager

I started my career as a Peripatetic Home Manager, working across the UK, making sure care homes met the regulator's standards.

I joined Care UK in 2016 because I felt it would be a supportive and rewarding company to be a part of and I was correct.

I’ve seen the high standard of care for residents and great teams. Everyone is very committed to ensuring that every resident is happy and cared for. There’s always a lot to do in my role, but by far my favourite part of the day is when I walk around the home, checking everything is okay, and chatting with residents, relatives and my team.

I enjoy getting to know the residents and welcoming new people into the home.
