Although she had severe mobility issues as a result of trauma which also left her with aphasia, my friend lived independently with a minimum care package for a number of years and led a relatively active social life. Unfortunately, a series of increasingly serious falls meant that alternative care
needed to be sought. Our concern was that because of her inability to communicate verbally, she would be very isolated in a residential care setting and it took us several weeks and many visits to various residential care homes before someone recommended us to The Beeches. She has now lived at The Beeches for 3 years and during that time we have never once had cause to regret the decision we made. We cannot praise the staff highly enough; they really have become the family she doesn't have and the support they have given us all during the Covid-19 lockdown has been exemplary.

My grandad has been living at The Beeches since February 2020. He had fallen causing poor mobility and we were struggling to cope at home. Having met the staff and looking around we felt Grandad would be happy 'having a little holiday'. His room is lovely and when we were visiting we could sit and have
a cup of tea together at any time. He goes to dinner (like being on holiday) in a restaurant and meets new people or can choose to eat in front of the television. The Beeches was shut to all visitors quickly (COVID-19) showing they had Grandad's best interests at heart. The staff tried to provide information to families via an in house portal, emails, telephone and FaceTime. Technical difficulties have been looked into and they have done their best to look after him (he is our main priority) and inform us of how he is. He loves their cake and is often found eating cake with his cup of tea. I cannot thank the staff enough for looking after him. If I can't have him home then The Beeches is great!

During the lockdown, I have had to drop various items to my father. Whilst I was not able to enter the home, the reception staff have been amazing and extremely helpful and courteous. I could not have been more impressed with their attitude and also the fact that they take every precaution to keep safe
and wear all the correct PPE equipment.
The care staff and helpers at the home are always very kind and respectful and do a wonderful job of looking after my father. It always gives me peace of mind to know that he is safe and being cared for.
I would have no hesitation in recommending The Beeches to others.

Staff at The Beeches need to be commended for their handling of the implementation of all the changes and extra demands on their time during the COVID-19 pandemic. They have done everything necessary and more to keep residents safe and to keep morale lifted. I know that staff have had to work extra
hard for longer, and for more shifts to keep everything running, for which we are very grateful. My mum hasn't coped with it all well, and despite the extra demands on their time, they have worked hard to try to help her through it all.
We look forward to the relaxation of at least some of the measures they have had to take, and I have complete confidence in management in being able to make the decisions to do so at the right time.

The facilities at The Beeches are excellent and make it a very comfortable environment for residents and their families. During the pandemic communication from The Beeches has been excellent and has helped me to be confident about the measures taken to keep the residents safe, looked after and even
entertained.
As my mother reached the end of her life I was permitted to visit her. The care that the staff were taking to make her comfortable was very comforting and I know that everything possible was done to make sure that she was in a familiar and peaceful environment. The staff also took time to make sure that I knew the details of her care and kept in touch with us during her final decline.
The staff were also very caring towards me and looked after me during my visits to my mother.

My Father was a resident of the Woodlands Community in The Beeches from July 2018 to his death Aug 2019. The standard of care and support he received were exemplary and I cannot speak highly enough of the manager and team of this unit. The staff formed a very close relationship with my father which
made all the difference to his quality of life. He was always treated with kindness, compassion and respect. Three of the staff were with me and my father when he died and throughout this time both my father and myself had an amazing level of support and care.
The team in Woodlands became my Family and were an incredible support to me through a very difficult period.
Dementia is a cruel illness, but the staff made it manageable for both my father and myself.
I cannot recommend this team highly enough.

My experience with this home has been outstanding from the care to the facilities - it really felt like home, and the end of life care was exceptional - such dignity, compassion and kindness, we always felt Mum was looked after. It was so hard to put Mum into a home and see her gradual decline with
Alzheimer’s, but the staff encourage as much independence as possible.

The transformation in her is amazing thanks to all the hard work of the team on Woodlands and also the hard work of the manager in helping us with my mum's move. The Beeches feels like a plush hotel. A doctor at Basildon Hospital referred to it as The Ritz of care homes. Accommodation is first class. Dining is a delight. Entertainment is excellent. Camaraderie is great. The staff are excellent. Nothing is too much trouble. They looked after my mum with
love and affection. We all felt very much a part of a big family.

The dementia care team at The Beeches provide excellent care to the residents, but their care and support to my family during my mother's last few days before she died was exceptional. Mum was progressively deteriorating but was never in pain, never alone and surrounded by love. The staff went way beyond
their professional remit and it was clear how much they cared about Mum. We never felt alone or concerned, quite the opposite. Many tears were shed amongst us all but also laughter and joy. Mum, if she had any awareness, would have felt this. Dementia is a cruel illness that strips away the person that was but it was always reassuring to know that when we were not there, we knew Mum was being very well cared for.

The care that my Aunt received at the Beeches was of the highest possible standard. All the staff are caring, compassionate and incredibly kind. The standards of cleanliness, food preparation and general care are exactly what anyone would want when helping a loved one to make the difficult decision

The care given to my father during the last weeks of his life 2was excellent in every respect. The staff looked after him with such kindness and compassion whilst always preserving his dignity.
They provided wonderful support for the entire family and we will always be grateful to every one of them
for the thoughtful and considerate way in which they eased his passing.

I recently made twice daily visits to my sister during two weeks spent at Brentwood. Prior to that, I had visited my sister and her husband a number of times over the previous 3 years before his passing last month. I had always been impressed by the warm, friendly and welcoming atmosphere within The
Beeches and the beautiful, spacious and attractively decorated and furnished rooms and leisure areas. Most recently, I had spent the days chatting and joining in activities with my sister and other residents, and all personnel there I hold in the highest regard - no matter their role - each was dedicated, delightful and welcoming which couldn’t help but “rub off” on all those they care for. If there was a score - I would have to give them at least 100%.

My Dad came to The Beeches just 3 weeks ago after a very traumatic hospital stay. The whole family are thrilled to see the progress he has made, which is due to the wonderful care and kindness of your staff. Every day we find him dressed and well presented. He tells us that staff take an interest in
his life and the pressure sores he got from his hospital stay are beginning to heal. We cannot recommend The Beeches highly enough. Thank you.

Jana Krapkova

Job Title: Dementia Care Manager

Joined: 2015

After finishing a Business Course in the Czech Republic, I started as a carer, looking after people with mental health problems.
When I moved to England, in 2007, I originally worked as a carer in a home near Watford. At the time, my manager offered me the position of Senior Carer/Training Co-Ordinator in Romford, so I relocated to Essex.


I was looking after young, physically disabled people. I found my passion for palliative care as we worked closely with St Francis Hospice.
Years later I was promoted to Home Based Trainer and provided mandatory training to all staff. I had the opportunity to travel around different homes in the area and study a course provided by Bradford University: “Person First, Dementia Second”. After that, I knew I had to go back into care.


I have been at The Beeches since October 2015. I started as a Lead Carer and have now worked my way up as a Dementia Care Manager. I love it here and really feel like I make a difference to our residents.
