Abbeyfield Winnersh is a dementia-friendly residential care home situated in the village of Winnersh, Wokingham. The care home is designed to allow freedom of movement throughout, flowing from one area into another.

The home has 62 en-suite bedrooms each with a brightly coloured front door complete with a letterbox and street lamp. Bedrooms have been provided with speciality furniture that is designed for easy access to residents' possessions.

Whilst each room has its own en-suite, the home also has separate spa-bathrooms with sensory lighting and the technology to be able to play favourite relaxing music.

A beauty salon, communal and private lounges, a cinema, shop and café complete the home and are available for residents and visiting friends and family to use at their leisure.

The large garden and roof terrace has been designed to encourage outside living with lots of areas for activity or relaxation. Recently built summer houses allow outdoor activities throughout the year and help with any hobbies residents wish to pursue.

When children visit they're provided a fun area and climbing frame with plenty of seating for residents to watch them play.

The aim is to treat residents as individuals and tailor the care they provide. Their team of staff are dedicated to ensuring all needs are met and expectations exceeded.

Abbeyfield are proud to offer respite stays here, a short-stay that can be planned ahead, or in the case of an emergency, last-minute. Suitable for individuals seeking support following post-operative or hospital care, or whilst their regular caregiver takes a break, respite care can also be used as a way of introducing long-term residential care to a loved one.

Abbeyfield is the best home I could find for my father. Plenty to keep him occupied and staff have original ideas of activities.

My mum took a while to settle when she originally went in July 2017. She went in for respite care, but the reality was it ended up being best for her to remain. The staff were patient and kind, trying to help her settle. She loved the fact that her room had a door into the garden and she could go out
whenever she wanted. I was really happy that she was able to be independent for as long as she was able, to take herself out into the secure grounds whenever she wanted. Abbeyfield always felt more like a hotel than a home. There are activities every day, of a wide range. Residents can opt-in or out as they wish, but staff gently encourage them to attend to be a part of the life of the home. Dementia is a cruel disease, but the residents are very happy forming friendships with each other and staff. My mum talked about her afternoon teas and get-togethers, which replicated her previous life. The staff were always really caring, and I never had any concerns about the standards of care.

The staff are committed, caring and compassionate. They show genuine affection for the residents.
The home itself is spotlessly clean and fresh, as well as bright and airy.

Mum entered Abbeyfield Winnersh in August 2019. It took her a while to settle and for me to get to know her new life. She is always called by her name and the staff always make her feel wanted. Since December Mum has deteriorated and become unwell she is now confined to bed she needs every bit of care
available and is given it without question. I am kept informed at all times even during the COVID crisis. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Abbeyfield.

We viewed several care homes for my mother before settling on Abbeyfield, although from the moment we stepped through the doors we knew it was the right place! It has a warm, friendly atmosphere, is spotlessly clean and beautifully furnished. The bedrooms are equally charming and well furnished. Most
importantly it is “home” for Mum, where she is loved and cared for beyond expectations. The kitchen provides lovely food for the fussiest residents, and the entertainment team are amazing.
I cannot recommend Abbeyfield enough!

Abbeyfield is a lovely home. You are always warmly welcomed when you arrive to visit. Residents are looked after extremely well with plenty of activities and lovely food. All of the staff are extremely friendly and are very supportive and kind to their residents. The home is very clean with very nice
memory reminders dotted around the home.

Mum has stayed at Abbeyfield for nearly three years and although there was a problem with staff in the first two years, I am glad to say it is at its best; they are caring, attentive and proactive. I love the warm welcome, making it easier to visit and my Mum can walk anywhere in the home or garden
when she wants. The talented activities team arrange fun and interesting things to do, including theme days to give the home a different feel for the residents. There are regular relatives meetings and should you need any support, the lovely staff or support group meetings are there to help.

I do feel that a bit more at the home could be done. There is a shop there but what is the reason for it being shut? I think some of the residents would love to shop for magazines, sweets, birthday cards etc. I am sure there are some residents who are able to shop.
They are lovely staff but I would
like to see residents that can be, to go out of the home. A trip in a car to a garden centre or even a little run around the countryside. Being cooped up all day surely does not do them any good. Also evenings nothing going on. Maybe the television put on with a film would entertain those that are up a bit later.

Abbeyfield is a lovely warm comfortable home with excellent staff. There are lots of activities for residents and relatives are welcome to join in. The residents are well cared for, the rooms are spacious and bright. Abbeyfield is a modern building with lots of light and comfortable places to sit everywhere.
The garden is lovely. Food is lovely too.

Mum has been at Abbeyfield from the beginning and is treated like a family member. She is very happy and has formed many special relationships at Abbeyfield. All the staff are so kind and supportive not only with the residents but family members too. I couldn't recommend Abbeyfield enough.

My mother-in-law was here from when it was first opened. Initially for the first 9 months it seemed to be a wonderful care home for her.
Unfortunately there seemed to be a major problem of keeping hold of a manager. I estimate around 5 new managers in a period of 18 to 24 months.
Unfortunately she
was asked to leave because they did not have the appropriate staff to care for her needs. Medication was not given when required and we were not informed of this for some reason. Luckily she has now moved to a new home which seems at the moment to have been for the best. Some really great staff, but some not!

The care home's physical design is good as residents and their families can move around to various small lounges, seating areas, inside and out. It is a shame that there has been such a high turnover of managers, but lots of the other staff remain and many work hard and are kind and caring of the residents.
The chef makes amazing cakes.

It was hard agreeing with my wife that it was time for her mother to go into a home for some respite care, and even harder deciding that it was best for her to stay permanently. But her memory was failing fast and it was ever harder to keep her safe and entertained at our home. However, Abbeyfield Winnersh,
the best place we found, has been brilliant for her.
There is always a cup of tea available for her, she is able to get outside and take walks whenever she wants, the staff all seem to know her by name and make a point of stopping to chat to her. They will make alternative food if necessary, and she has been able to continue to drink her red wine with dinner!
It is easy for us to get to and also to park at, but tracking her down sometimes can be a bit difficult, as she might be around the back walking, in one of the lounges talking, watching a film in the cinema, or sitting in a courtyard. Or she might just be walking around one of the specially designed no dead end corridors!

Our Mother is treated as an individual.
Staff work hard to ensure her needs are met.
This is the best environment she could be in - the building design is impressive.
Support for families is excellent.
The food is lovely and family/friends are made to feel very welcome when staying for meals across
the day.

A lovely home. That is what it Abbeyfield is - a home.
The team are excellent they offer fabulous care but importantly they treat her like a person. They engage and encourage and are genuinely interested in her. To know she is not only physically cared for but also emotionally is incredibly important.

We as a family were so worried when Grandmas dementia got that bad that we had to consider a care home as you hear so many horror stories. However, Abbeyfield has been just excellent. It's a great place with lovely, attentive staff, good food and perfectly designed for anyone living with dementia. Now
she is being well looked after, Grandma seems more relaxed and a lot happier and it's once again a pleasure to visit her.

Alice started working in care in 2005, caring and cleaning in local Care Homes. Alice then joined Abbeyfield in 2012 as a Care Assistant, working towards Team Leader, Head of Care, and then managing Care Homes in 2018. She joined Abbeyfield Winnersh in September 2024.

James started in care in 2011 working in Domiciliary Care Services. James then joined Abbeyfield in 2020 as Care Team Leader, progressing to Deputy Manager shortly after. James manages the downstairs areas of Winnersh which include our Male and Female Households, alongside our residential dementia household.

Job Title: Customer Relations Manager

Amanda started working in care in 2016 when Abbeyfield Winnersh opened. She joined us as a Care Assistant, quickly progressing to Care Team Leader where she completed her NVQ in Dementia Pathways. In 2022 the role of Customer Relations Manager became available, and Amanda decided to make a change in her Abbeyfield journey. If you are looking for care for your loved one Amanda will support you through the process. In addition, Amanda manages our community engagement in the home, supporting our local community with safe spaces to meet in our beautiful summerhouse.

Jamal joined Abbeyfield Winnersh in 2022. Jamal has a varied role, which includes ensuring the compliance of all aspects of Health & Safety in the home, garden maintenance, redecoration and assisting in day-to-day repairs.

Lisa joined Abbeyfield in 2021 as the Housekeeping Team Leader. Lisa has a team of housekeepers who work alongside her to ensure that our residents have a clean and comfortable home to live in. Lisa also oversees the laundry in the home.
