Avalon Nursing Home is a purpose built home situated in the heart of Bridgwater.

Avalon’s interior incorporates the latest technologies in nursing and health care systems and leading ideas in dementia care design. All rooms are en-suite, finished to the highest specifications where flat screen televisions come as standard.

All of Avalon’s rooms and a number of lounges overlook external gardens enabling easy access to outdoors at all times. Private living areas are complimented by an open plan living area in the centre of the home where residents can relax and enjoy a cup of tea with the friendly team. A number of rooms have their own private terrace, while the Sedgemoor dining room leads on the Avalon courtyard and gardens making for enjoyable Al Fresco dining in good weather.

A hair salon, cinema room and a varied plan of daily activities and events mean residents will always have something to do. Avalon’s central location also allows residents and their relatives the added convenience of having all the attractions of bustling Bridgwater on their doorstep.

Mum is on end-of-life care and I could not wish for her to be in such good care. The staff are all extremely caring, Dad is also in Avalon and again all the needs are being cared for, I cannot recommend Avalon enough for their outstanding care and commitment.

Mum has only been in this home for 5 months, as she suffers with dementia I can't ask her how she feels but I know she is a lot happier than in her previous home and is being looked after very well. Haven't been able to spend much time at the home because of covid but hope to soon.

The Avalon looked after mum for nearly 18 months with lots of love care and friendship even though she could be difficult and strong-minded. They supported her through the height of Covid 19 when we weren't able to be there and made sure that I could be there in time to say my goodbye. I would highly
recommend this nursing home and the staff they are absolutely brilliant and have become firm friends.

On admission, Mother was given full examination and weight noted, treated kindly and with respect. Her room and fittings were modern, bright, and clean and a specialist bed to meet her needs. There were lockdown rules so some visiting restrictions which were painful for all especially at Christmas but
they were lifted when possible. We were all called immediately when her health deteriorated and were allowed to visit unrestricted as 'end of life' caregivers. She had excellent full 24-hour care from staff right to the end of her life. Pain relief managed very sensitively. She was treated very kindly and with dignity and respect. My brother and I were also cared for as we spent long hours by day and through night at our Mother's bedside until the end.

Prior to admittance, management staff made a home visit to assess mother's care needs and then rapidly made arrangements to ensure mother could be admitted promptly to Avalon. She needed specialised equipment to assist mobility and Avalon was able to provide this. It was clear that there is a well-organised
staffing structure with teams specialising in specific aspects of care, but all working to the same common ethos of high-quality compassionate care. Much kindness was shown to mother by all staff. Sadly the time came when mother reached end-of-life and she passed away peacefully. The staff supported us relatives very well during this emotionally difficult time, facilitating a bedside vigil.

From the very first contact with the home, they have been both informative and welcoming. They have made a very difficult transition in our lives as problem-free as is possible. All the staff are friendly and supportive - it's like a big family that cares for both the resident and their dearest.

Amazing staff, food, atmosphere. This care home is a real 'care home'. All the staff care for the residents as if they were their own family and treat the residents' families the same. So pleased and thankful my dad is in this home.

My husband now appears to be settling into Avalon with the help and encouragement of the staff. He has previously been reticent to join in with any activities but the staff have persevered and he has now begun to be more sociable. His dementia means that his behavior/attitude can vary and is quite unpredictable
but the care staff have found ways to cope with this with both patience and humour - which seem to work well in difficult situations. The nursing staff keep us well informed of any medical issues and are always available and helpful. It’s reassuring that all the staff really care about the residents, treating them with respect and kindness. (It was lovely one day to overhear one of the new young male carers reassuring a resident by telling him that he was safe and that everything was alright.)

My mum went into the Avalon in September 2020, she has vascular dementia and went in right in the midst of the lockdown. She was met at the reception by several members of staff and the manager who reassured her and me that everything will be ok. It was so hard for us as a family to put my mum into
a care home. But all the staff at the Avalon were so lovely and made my mum so welcome and made me feel that I wasn’t doing a bad thing. During these COVID times, the reception staff have been so helpful if I have to ring for something. The care staff do such a good job and nothing is too much trouble. They also have a fantastic activity program that I wish mum would join in but she’d rather stay quiet in her room. (A lovely care home.)

Avalon offers a happy home for my father. He is well looked after by lovely staff. He is calm when we visit and is treated with respect by the carers. I cannot offer an opinion for all areas as obviously visiting is restricted.

My lovely Mum has been with Avalon Care Home since July 2020. She has vascular dementia and has been prone to some aggressive behaviour towards other residents. I have found that all the staff are extremely caring and patient when looking after my Mum and I cannot fault any of the staff at Avalon, including
the reception staff and the manager. Any issues I may have raised, have been dealt with quickly and efficiently. I am so grateful that my Mum is happy and well looked after at Avalon.

My father has been with Avalon for over a year now, he arrived at a very difficult and sensitive time - in the middle of the Covid pandemic. The staff were truly amazing in helping him settle into his new home and supporting us through the entire process. All the staff continue to care for him and attend
to his needs to ensure he is healthy and happy. We love the regular updates on social media to help us feel part of their day-to-day living! So many activities are introduced to help keep the residents occupied and busy. My father always tells us the food is amazing! His room is a really good size, and the gardens are lovely for the warmer weather activities. As a family we are so happy we selected Avalon, we know they are the perfect match for my father's needs and always make us welcome when we visit. Thank you!

My mother and father have both been at the Avalon Nursing Home for several months now and I am extremely pleased with the care they have received. The staff have gone above and beyond what I expected in order to keep them safe and enable them to spend the remaining time they have left together. My father
suffers from vascular dementia and has also become very immobile. He is subject to frequent verbal outbursts and is not easy to manage and I would like to thank the staff for all the patience they have shown when dealing with him. My mother suffers from Alzheimer’s and has become more and more forgetful over the past 7 years. In the summer of 2021, she became ill with a heart condition and I was no longer able to care for her at home because I felt she needed more specialist care. I was, therefore, delighted that the Avalon Nursing Home had a space for my mother to join my father so that they could be together once more.

My lovely dad was with Avalon for 9 months. He arrived when the country was in lockdown due to the Covid pandemic so visiting was limited. The home tried to make the best of what was an horrific situation by doing as much as they could to keep family in touch with loved ones. When restrictions eased
I was able to visit dad inside the care home and was greeted with friendly caring staff and a happy dad sat in a clean room. We were able to be with dad the day he died. The care, love and support we received on what was truly a horrendous day was something I will never forget. A care home can have all the facilities in the world but what it needs is staff who care and love for your loved ones as you would and this is what Avalon has. Thank you for looking after and loving my dad as I did.

We are blessed as a family to have our mum living safely at Avalon nursing home. She has been here 3 years now and is happy and smiley and dancing around so much. The staff are fabulous; so friendly and supportive. We couldn't wish for a better place for our wonderful mum to be living.

Avalon Nursing Home have been a great support during a very difficult time in her life. During the pandemic, my nan had to move nursing homes. Avalon were welcoming and went above and beyond to make sure my nan received the care and support she needed, providing all the care and support my nan needed

My husband stayed for respite on several occasions and found the nursing staff very caring and professional but I had a disappointing experience with reception. She was not at all helpful, in fact, she was very negative, as my husband was not expected to live long. He died in his sleep on 14.7.21 and
she was not helpful with my niece who drove all the way from Windsor as she is my next of kin, the nurse in charge was lovely and caring.

I have worked in the care sector for 13 years.
I started my journey as an HCA in various care homes. I then progressed over to the activities team, using my creative skills from theatre dramatics. I have also had hospital experience Facilitating activities working with various teams such as Occupational and physiotherapists.
I always like to use a holistic and person-centred approach which I think led me to become a “wellbeing coordinator”


Combining enhanced care and activities, with the community and family connections in mind, as well as improving diet and exercise.


My favourite activities to provide are cooking sessions and movement to music. I also love pet therapy sessions.
I love working with people and I love using my skills to make a difference. I couldn't imagine doing anything else.
