Avalon Nursing Home is a purpose built home situated in the heart of Bridgwater.

Avalon’s interior incorporates the latest technologies in nursing and health care systems and leading ideas in dementia care design. All rooms are en-suite, finished to the highest specifications where flat screen televisions come as standard.

All of Avalon’s rooms and a number of lounges overlook external gardens enabling easy access to outdoors at all times. Private living areas are complimented by an open plan living area in the centre of the home where residents can relax and enjoy a cup of tea with the friendly team. A number of rooms have their own private terrace, while the Sedgemoor dining room leads on the Avalon courtyard and gardens making for enjoyable Al Fresco dining in good weather.

A hair salon, cinema room and a varied plan of daily activities and events mean residents will always have something to do. Avalon’s central location also allows residents and their relatives the added convenience of having all the attractions of bustling Bridgwater on their doorstep.

The worst thing in the world was when Mom had to go into a nursing home for her own safety. The best thing has been choosing Avalon. All the staff are excellent in everything they do. They care for Mom as if she was their own with compassion, dignity and respect. Due to the staff, Mom has excelled since
being in Avalon. I visit most days and always leave with peace of mind that Mom is in the best place. We, as a family, are made so welcome, nothing is ever any trouble. The fact that Mom has such great days (whatever her mood) is a sign of how good "Avalon" and all the staff are.

My husband has been a resident since December 2018, has dementia and is completely dependent on the care he receives from the staff.
The staff are excellent, tending to his physical needs with exceptional care and with special consideration to his dignity.
I am kept fully informed of all aspects
of his care and health, regularly being involved in his care plan. Excellent support is also given to family and friends of residents.

My mum arrived at Avalon Care Home on Christmas Eve 2019 after spending many weeks in hospital. She, and us, received the warmest, caring reception from the office staff initially and then the care staff. We felt as though Christmas had arrived 1 day early. Since then we have visited almost every day,
and without fail, there is always a lovely welcome from whoever happens to be around. I know that my mum is receiving wonderful care from all the staff. Everyone is so friendly and it feels like a big family. Not only is my mum cared for, but my dad and the rest of my family too. My mum is safe, clean, fed and spoken and treated with dignity. I can now leave each day knowing all these things and this helps me to relax and sleep better.

My wife had a fortnights respite care at the home. What impressed me at this time was the caring staff. We were taken to the lounge where we waited for a member of staff who entered the room and came over to us and introduced themselves and welcomed us. A fortnight late my wire became a resident full-time.
It
has been a great relief to me that from that time to date sh has been very well looked after and treated very well. If my wife hadn't got dementia I think she would agree. Well done staff at Avalon

We find our experiences at Avalon Nursing Home extremely pleasant. It is bright, clean and tidy and the staff are very caring and willing to go out of their way to help you. The rooms are bright and cheerful as is the rest of the home with colourful items on the walls.
The garden is well maintained
and a pleasure for the patients to enjoy. The food is good and my mother feels that the place is like home to her.

My husband has been cared for by Avalon for over a year now. Previously, he was in another care home but they could no longer cope with him.
The home is very caring both with my husband and myself. Nothing is too much trouble - they look after people individually and are always available if you have
any concerns about your loved one.
I would recommend the home to everybody.

My mother was a resident here for almost 3 years. In the last 6 months of her stay, the care and food standards declined. She was getting upset about not being able to be in a quiet area. There were a lot of residents crowded in a small space, some of which disturbed the quieter residents. Having witnessed
the pandemonium, it is a wonder what some of the residents had to endure. Every time I went in to visit mum, I was chasing staff for missing items, concerns about her health that were ignored. Her en-suite was dirty and the floor had marks all over it. The food was not appetising and she was given food she didn’t like. There wasn’t a choice and I had requested smaller portions and healthier food for her. In the end, we moved her to a place where she is safe and happy, with staff who are extremely kind and have time for the residents. In Avalon, it had become task-orientated and not people orientated, so staff were always busy. I wouldn’t recommend to anyone.

My mother passed away on 11th November. I cannot praise the staff enough about their support leading up to the events and immediately afterwards. They were kind, considerate and caring throughout, even though my mother often presented challenges. Thank you from all the family.

My father was sadly only at Avalon for a short while before he passed away, but I cannot stress enough how wonderful the team were, from the ladies that cleaned his room to the manager the care and support they gave Dad and our family was outstanding. We knew when we met the manager that the home would
be perfect for Dad and it was. She and her whole team are amazing. It was just a shame Dad never got to enjoy all the activities etc there which are so vital.

I always like to use a holistic and person-centred approach which I think led me to become a “wellbeing coordinator”


Combining enhanced care and activities, with the community and family connections in mind, as well as improving diet and exercise.


My favourite activities to provide are cooking sessions and movement to music. I also love pet therapy sessions.
I love working with people and I love using my skills to make a difference. I couldn't imagine doing anything else.
