Avalon Nursing Home is a purpose built home situated in the heart of Bridgwater.

Avalon’s interior incorporates the latest technologies in nursing and health care systems and leading ideas in dementia care design. All rooms are en-suite, finished to the highest specifications where flat screen televisions come as standard.

All of Avalon’s rooms and a number of lounges overlook external gardens enabling easy access to outdoors at all times. Private living areas are complimented by an open plan living area in the centre of the home where residents can relax and enjoy a cup of tea with the friendly team. A number of rooms have their own private terrace, while the Sedgemoor dining room leads on the Avalon courtyard and gardens making for enjoyable Al Fresco dining in good weather.

A hair salon, cinema room and a varied plan of daily activities and events mean residents will always have something to do. Avalon’s central location also allows residents and their relatives the added convenience of having all the attractions of bustling Bridgwater on their doorstep.

The care my mum received in the 6 months she was in the home, by all staff she came in contact with, was excellent. Staff were patient, kind, friendly and did everything they could in Mum's best interests. She celebrated her 100th birthday at the home and everyone ensured it was a very special day,
with the activities staff member especially organising a memorable day. As her appetite faded, every effort was made by the kitchen staff to produce the sweet food she liked, to tempt her to eat. Mum was not left on her own at the end of her life, ensuring her death was caring and dignified.

The care, love and affection we receive is superb, all the staff are so professional and friendly - a true home.
The property is light, bright and beautifully clean.
Rooms are generous and comfortable and many activities are engaging.

Staff, carers and cleaners are very good, friendly and helpful. Room is good, food is good, nice home, clean and tidy all the time.
NEGATIVES - No patient turners, had to bring own.
Some days there is not enough staff to cope with demand.
No hot water one day and heating off for a couple of days.
Had
to query the bill as not clear.

Our experience with the care home has been good. My husband has had two falls but that is in no way their fault. It is unfeasible to watch the patients all the time. They dealt with the falls well and communication is very good. A bit of confusion over missing underwear and other items though all labelled.

My mum has severe dementia. Before Avalon my mum has been in and out of different nursing homes and psychiatric units. Since being at Avalon, I have noticed a remarkable change in mums well-being. The staff from the cleaner, the carers, the nurse and the manager are amazing individuals doing a tough
job.
One of the carers helps me take mum to see her great granddaughter on her day off. To all the staff, thank you, you shine like 10,000 suns.

I have worked in the care sector for 13 years.
I started my journey as an HCA in various care homes. I then progressed over to the activities team, using my creative skills from theatre dramatics. I have also had hospital experience Facilitating activities working with various teams such as Occupational and physiotherapists.
I always like to use a holistic and person-centred approach which I think led me to become a “wellbeing coordinator”


Combining enhanced care and activities, with the community and family connections in mind, as well as improving diet and exercise.


My favourite activities to provide are cooking sessions and movement to music. I also love pet therapy sessions.
I love working with people and I love using my skills to make a difference. I couldn't imagine doing anything else.
