Avocet House Care Home in Boston offers person-centred care for people with residential, respite and palliative care needs and to people living with dementia.

It is located within the new Quadrant development just off the A16, a short drive from the town itself. The purpose-built, 66-bed home is carefully designed with the residents at the forefront. Bedrooms are spacious and bright and residents are encouraged to personalise them for a homely feel.

Inadequate care in every respect, prescribed medication, and pain relief not administrated. Poor food quality and choices of food, not seeking medical advice when needed, poor catheter care, lack of respect, certainly not care he deserved! We brought it to the attention of the senior carers our concerns
as soon as they arose but nothing was done. We were very saddened as a whole family how my grandad was treated. He was on the second floor of the home with only three other residents, two members of staff caring for them, therefore not overworked. We have since learned from obtaining their records that catheter bags were not emptied regularly, night bags not used, 111 not contacted when they said they had said, it was a further 36 hours (care home notes confirm this). When we reported this to the area manager he said that the two members of staff would be dismissed from their employment which has not happened. Presume we were supposed to believe this and not take it further! Safeguarding informed.

We understand that relinquishing the care of a loved one to others can be challenging; however, we would like to reiterate that the care of our residents is of paramount importance to us. Every resident receives the person-centred care they deserve and is at the heart of everything we do. It is regrettable that you did not bring your concerns to our attention when your grandfather was at the home, so that we could have had the opportunity to investigate and address any issues you had at the time, but this was not the case. We have continually tried to resolve your concerns for the last 8 months but unfortunately you are unable to inform us of your desired outcome and we therefore find ourselves in the difficult position of being unable to give you closure. We have tried to reach out to your family on numerous occasions to invite you to meet with us in an informal setting to discuss your concerns, but sadly this was declined on every occasion.

We couldn't fault Avocet House. The staff were courteous, friendly, and welcoming and the place was clean and warm. The food and facilities were excellent. I would definitely recommend this facility to other people. 5 stars all round!

An excellent care home with a superb caring staff. Facilities are great and residents entertained by an extensive programme. My mother-in-law is happy, well, and has made a number of new friends. Highly recommended.

Shame that there isn’t the option for no stars. Stunning care home facilities but the management is appalling and they did not provide suitable palliative care for my father. I would not recommend this home under any circumstances! So many mistakes, I have a complaint ongoing from June 2021 and they
do not respond, no respect for the deceased family nor my father when he was there. One member of staff moaned about other staff, calling them lazy and complained about the residents. There was poor communication within the home and my father's oromorph (pain relief) was left at the chemist for seven days after they were told to administrate it, (I have the district nurse's notes now to prove they knew about it, however, they lied and said they didn’t know) leaving him with just paracetamol. Night catheter bag notes show it was only used three times out of 27 days. He did not even have his bell at end of life and when I did try and use it, it didn’t work - in a brand new care home.

Unfortunately, our subsequent robust investigations and comprehensive responses haven’t resolved how you feel. We are disappointed you refused our multiple offers to meet. Again, our sincere condolences for the loss of your father.

Very nice and friendly home. Rooms are lovely. Effort has been made to make residents comfortable, well-fed, and entertained. Staff are friendly and speak nicely to residents and encourage them to improve mobility.

Friendly, efficient service. Care home immaculate and just like being at home. Nothing too much trouble for the staff. Cannot fault - my parents only there for respite care but would definitely use on a more permanent basis if necessary in the future.

My aunt is now living in this wonderful care home. The decor is amazing. But this was not why I chose this place for my aunt. Nothing is too much trouble to make her comfortable and to feel at home. It is the first time I have seen a smile on her face for a long long time when we walked through the
doors. The welcome from all the staff was fantastic and genuine. Talking to her and finding out from her what she wanted. The food is excellent, with a good choice every day and any request for something different is no problem at all! I personally also feel so much better knowing that my aunt is being cared for at an amazingly high standard and made to feel safe in her new home. Thank you Avocet!

My mum needed to move to a residential home, from the first-ever phone call I felt my mum was important to the staff at Avocet House. The managers made us welcome and spent a ridiculous amount of their own time with us to make sure they fully understood my mum and her needs. A specialist bed, no problem,
change of furniture, no problem, personal items dropped off before her arrival and set out so it was all familiar from the first second? No problem. The day she arrived she was welcomed like royalty, made to feel like family from the first hello to all staff popping in to meet her. I slept well for the first night in months knowing my mum was safe and cared for as part of the Avocet family. I’ve spoken to her this morning and she is full of compliments and says it’s like a hotel! Thank you for welcoming mum and making us sure she is being cared for as we would if we could. I cannot wait to see her get back to herself with you. Thank you for taking the time to care.

The welcome has been amazing. The care and food are lovely. All the trouble everyone goes to. I knew once I came over the doorstep I was safe. Always lots to do, great interest in the people being cared for. We are never missed or ignored. Staff are very attentive. Nothing is too much trouble. The building
is like a 10-star hotel. It is an alive and wonderful place to be able to stay. Never been in a care home with so much life. Highly recommend.

A very close friend decided at the age of 98 to go into care full time, she was a very strong-willed lady who l thought would find it difficult to cope with life in a home. Well, I must say from the word go she settled into life very well, but it really helped with the staff being extremely helpful
and nothing too much trouble. My friend gets involved with activities and is really enjoying herself, thank you Avocet House Care Home, Boston.
