Avonbourne Care Centre offers two distinct homes in which residents enjoy living life to the full, in vibrant care communities, with great people around them 24-hours a day. Avon Court is for those of their residents living with dementia, where specially trained carers are on hand to support. Bourne House looks after those who need a little extra help to maintain their independence. Bourne House is also where you'll find their nursing household. Both homes offer short-stay respite care to look after a loved one whilst family members and carers use the opportunity to take a well-earned break.

Each home has beautifully furnished living accommodation, spacious en-suite bedrooms and fully accessible, landscaped gardens which can be enjoyed all year round.

Everything in the care homes has been carefully designed to enrich the lives of its residents, who enjoy daily social activities that are perfectly tailored to their needs, with joint events in the central coffee shop, beauty salon and cinema. There are cosy seating areas for a cup of tea with loved ones, and outside terraces for sunnier days.

Not enough staff. Activities improving gradually. Staff aren't always experienced (a lot of agency staff used) and don't know all the residents that well. My mum is bored a lot of the time and needs stimulation and company. This would prevent her from becoming agitated. She is a lovely, caring person
but the illness has changed her and it's so sad to see that she isn't very happy sometimes. She loves to sing and dance so today has been perfect for her. More time spent with the residents would improve many of their behaviours.

The care mum received for her respite care for two weeks, from stepping into Avonbourne to stepping out, was fantastic. Staff were friendly and the care home was clean. Always welcoming. Mum said, "The hotel was wonderful".

Dad came in for a short time to give mum a break.
The staff have all been wonderful and it has been a great comfort to the family to know he is safe and being well cared for.

Moved mum here from another care home in Salisbury which did not provide her with the little care she needed, never enough staff.
We moved mum a week ago and so far the treatment and general care shown to mum has been good.
The home itself is being well maintained and cleaned. There seems to be
things going on to keep mum more interested.

My mother was assessed and welcomed to the home which was warm, clean and homely. Though her stay was short, she would not hesitate to return again, so much so, she did not want to leave at the end of her stay.
I also feel she was safe there and she had social activities which were not available in
her own home and this was a relief for my peace of mind. It was a very good experience for both of us. The staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful.

My father has been a resident of this care home. The staff and management are very very helpful, nothing is too much trouble for them. I attended the Christmas fayre in December, the staff and management were friendly and very co-operative, I would have no problem recommending this care home to anybody.
I can't praise it highly enough.

My sister resides in this home. She has been diagnosed with senile dementia, she appears to be well looked after, clean and fairly well preserved. The staff all appear to be kind and considerate and the patients like them which means a lot to relatives.

Had a lovely experience visiting my mother with relatives, having lunch with her in the cafe. Staff are very helpful as always and the food is excellent.
In past visits, I have sometimes found my mother isolated in her room and not taking part in activities, though I understand from staff she has chosen
not to participate. It is a difficult balance I think between staff resource and required attention (e.g. with her walking) I do not blame the staff in any way for this they are always trying their best.

Lovely new purpose built facilities with lots of space for residents and an excellent area for visiting relatives to dine with their loved one. We had a fabulous meal for six of us today. My mother-in-law seems happy and relaxed here whenever we visit. The cat and dog are a nice touch. Staff are very
friendly and I've been made very welcome, even when visiting at unexpected times. My favourite visit recently was when I was passing the home around bedtime and popped into give my mother-in-law a goodnight kiss, it was calm and lovely and she was delighted to see me.

I was most impressed by the caring staff. The rooms and areas looked and smelt so clean, parking was also very good. I turned up not expected and was given a warm welcome. I truly cannot say anything detrimental about this place and believe me I was looking.

We visited our aunt and we had lunch in the private dining room. The staff were extremely friendly and had a welcoming way and our aunt was very comfortable with them. It was my first visit to the home and I was impressed by the facilities and the design of the building which appears well planned for
the purpose. The bedroom is excellent with good quality fittings, furniture and a well designed en-suite wetroom. The communal rooms were also of a high standard and could have been mistaken for a five-star hotel. Love the resident cat Eva.

I visited my aunt in her new care home location. First impressions were good. We were warmly greeted by staff on reception and made our ways to our aunt's room. She looked comfortable sitting in her armchair, her room spacious modern and clean and so was the walk in shower room. Lunch was pre-ordered
and we had in the cafe, a designated area for residents and their guests. Lunch was tasty and well cooked, they even came to ask us how it was. The centre is not fully occupied due to potential clients not knowing the centre. The short time there, I can't recommend the centre highly enough.

I have found the care home to be safe, secure, happy, efficient and professionally run. My father has been here since the opening of Avonbourne and in the previous home. He has a great rapport with the staff and relationship with the key workers and carers. I couldn't wish for anything better for my
father other than a miracle.

Great staff, especially two, who are most friendly and helpful. My father settled in well and seems to enjoy his time here. The new building is lovely and well equipped. Once the new phone system is up and running I hope that the delay at the entrance will be put right as this is the only thing that
does not seem to run smoothly. (entering and exiting the home)

I know this is a new home but it is really beautiful and has been decorated with imagination and well thought out. The separate safe gardens will be a delight as they are designed for wheelchairs so no restrictions on enjoying the sunshine. The balconies will create a lovely place to socialize. I loved
the little sitting rooms for visitors to have a little privacy with a loved one, not to have to sit in a bedroom. I did however wonder why a pull down seat in the en-suite was not provided as many residents are elderly and this would be helpful. But this is a minor niggle and I'm sure this will be addressed. I have found the staff to be helpful, kind and caring. His key worker is wonderful. She is so positive, caring and happy which helps me also.

Les Johnson

Job Title: Home Manager (Avon Court)

Joined: 2024

Les joined the Trust in October 2024 and has worked in the care sector since 1993, and since 2003 as a Manager.


Les started working in care at the age of 23 as a carer for learning disabilities and started working in the elderly sector in 2018.


Les has a level 4 in care and a Registered Manager’s award and in his spare time is a musician.


Les has very high care standards and everything he does is for the benefit of the people. Les is a motivator and always seeks to get the best from himself and his team.


Ryan

Ryan Iyavoo

Job Title: Home Manager (Bourne House)

Joined: 2024

Ryan joined the Trust in October 2024. He started working in care at the age of 19 for his mum and dad’s residential care home in Lyme Regis. Ryan’s family bought the home back in 2005, Ryan started working in the laundry and then progressively to Deputy manager. In 2013 Ryan moved from Lyme Regis to Bath and took on the role of Deputy manager for Action on Hearing Loss where he spent 6 years learning British sign Language.


Ryan has a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care; Adults Residential Management and in his spare time is a Cubs (Scouts) Leader.
Ryan’s leadership approach is based on collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement. Ryan works closely with residents, their families, and the care team to ensure that we deliver high-quality services tailored to each individual's needs. Ryan promotes a culture of openness and support, his aim is to create an atmosphere where both staff and residents feel empowered to thrive.


Kamila

Kamila Bevan

Job Title: Home Manager (Bourne House)

Joined: 2017

**Kamila is currently on maternity leave.**


Kamila has worked in a variety of care roles for many years. She joined OSJCT at Avonbourne Care Centre in 2017 as Care Lead, before becoming Head of Care for Avon Court, the specialist dementia home, in 2019. She moved to Marden Court as Home Manager in 2021 and returned to Avonbourne as Home Manager of Bourne House in February 2022.


Having worked as a community care supervisor as well as in roles within a care home, Kamila realised her passion is with elderly and dementia care. She leads her team to provide the best possible environment for our residents with dignified, person-centred care, and lots of fun and laughter.


Katie

Katie Travis

Job Title: Care Leader

Joined: 1997

Katie has worked for the Trust since October 1997 and has worked in care for 35 years. Katie decided to work in care because she had done a college course and did a placement at Bartlett House when she was 19. She really enjoyed this so applied for bank work at Bemerton Lodge and then got a permanent job in a nursing home. Katie has worked in nursing homes, residential homes, and dementia homes in numerous roles, and homes and is currently a Care Leader at Avon Court.


In Katie’s spare time, she likes to socialise, do craft work, reading and spending time with her family.


Alix

Alix Williams-Duffield

Job Title: Activities Co-ordinator

Alix began her career in care in domiciliary care and after five and a half years was looking for something a bit different. She was offered the Activities Co-ordinator role at Avonbourne Care Centre and hasn’t looked back. Alix loves the one-to-one time and feeling like part of the family at Bourne House, and she and the residents really have a lot of fun together.


Out of work, Alix enjoys keeping fit and spending the weekends on family time with her children.


Paula

Paula Weeks

Job Title: Activities Co-ordinator

Joined: 2023

Paula is one of our activity coordinators at Avon Court. She has lots of experience in implementing activities through various roles where she organised public events, and carried out fundraising and family events. Paula joined the team at Avon Court because she wanted to challenge herself, and she works to ensure everyone here receives stimulating and meaningful activities that are tailored to their lifestyle.


Paula has six grown-up children and three dogs, one of which she regularly brings into work, much to the enjoyment of the residents!


Paula has a love of all things vintage and boasts an amazing collection of vintage items.


Paula loves what she does and finds it extremely rewarding. She says that Avon Court is a wonderful environment in which to work.


Aranzazu

Aranzazu Alejo Pineda

Job Title: Head Housekeeper

Aranzazu, known to everyone as Aran, is the Head Housekeeper at Avonbourne. She takes great pride in her work which she really enjoys. Nothing makes her happier than seeing the home thoroughly spotless and smelling lovely to the residents.


Aran is passionate about what she does and loves chatting with our residents. She loves those conversations because they are all different with fascinating stories to tell. Many like things done a certain way, and to Aran, that is what her team is there for.


Aran is proud to have a wonderful team in housekeeping and laundry, noting how they all get on well together and she is very proud of the standards they maintain.


Natasha

Natasha Bulpitt

Job Title: Care Leader

Joined: 2023

Natasha joined the Trust in March 2023. Tash had worked in the care sector for 16 years when she decided to join the team at Avon Court because she has a passion for dementia care. Tash has always had a soft spot for older people. She enjoys the differences that each day brings at Avon Court and thrives in its busy environment.


Tash describes herself as a strong leader who hopes to inspire the next generation of care workers to get the best out of their role. Tash gets great satisfaction knowing that she gets to help others each day through her work.


Sara

Sara Alexander

Job Title: Carer

Joined: 2019

Sara has worked at Avon Court for four years as a carer. She has two sons, a dog and a lizard name Eugene, whom she loves to bring into work. The residents really enjoy seeing Eugene and getting to hold him.

Sara loves working at Avon Court because the residents are given freedom and choice in their daily lives. She also loves the diversity of the people that live here. She finds getting to know our residents a real privilege.


Simon

Simon South

Job Title: Carer

Joined: 2020

Simon began working at Avon Court as a carer in March 2020. This was Simon’s first-ever role in health and social care. He decided on a career change as he was seeking a more rewarding role where he could help make a difference to others. Simon says that the team at Avon Court are all really friendly and works together like a family.


Simon enjoys taking the residents to Salisbury football club to watch home matches. As a keen football fan himself, this is something that Simon and the residents really enjoy doing together. Simon strives to make as many people smile as he can each day.


Chris

Chris Watson

Job Title: Handyperson

Joined: 2016

Chris is the handyperson here at Avon Court, he has worked with us for almost 7 years. Prior to joining the Avon Court team, he was a Stock manager for a retail company for over 12 years. Chris has been happily married for 36 years and his wife, daughter and brother-in-law all work for OSJCT - they clearly like to keep it in the family!


Chris has 5 grandchildren, ranging from one to 17 years. In his spare time, Chris enjoys relaxing over a pint on a Friday with his friends. He is also an avid Manchester United fan.


Chris says that he loves his job at Avon Court because he loves meeting new people and making a difference every day. For Chris ‘it’s all about the residents’.
