My grandad was a resident at Birchwood Heights earlier this year. It is where he spent the last few months of his life and we couldn't have asked for a better environment for him. The carers and staff were incredible throughout and the whole family were able to constantly visit and be with him at the
end. The staff and carers treated us like family, it's such a caring environment, so much so that you just know that your beloved family member is in the best possible hands.

I have worked in the care sector for over 17 years and have been privileged to lead care teams for the past 15 years. I have a degree in Business Management and a master’s degree in Dementia care. During my time within the care sector, I have supported a range of care needs, including people living with dementia, nursing care and those with mental health needs. My happy place is when I spend time with the residents and listen to their life stories; I have learned a lot from their wisdom over the years. I feel privileged to lead a team of heroes who go above and beyond daily to make a positive difference to the people we support. As the General Manager, I bring a sense of smooth running, professionalism, calmness, and trust to the home.

I started my career in care in 2008 as a Carer and worked my way up to become a Deputy Manager. I joined the Oakland Care team in 2022 when Birchwood Heights opened. I am passionate about ensuring every resident is happy and enjoying a stimulating, fulfilling life. I love building a good rapport with all the residents and being someone they trust and they can talk to. I am very lucky to be part of an incredible team that is dedicated to going above and beyond for our residents. Every day is different at Birchwood, but each day we make great memories with our residents. Outside of work, I love the outdoors, sitting in the sunshine, hiking, and recently discovered a new passion for bike riding.

I am delighted to have joined the Oakland Care family as Senior Client Relations Manager for Birchwood Heights. My experience in the role goes back 11 years now, including the commissioning of a new care home. Nothing gives me greater satisfaction than assisting families to explore full-time care options, whilst sharing insights during what is often a stressful time for them. Outside of work, my biggest passion has always been travel, which hopefully will become easier again in the fullness of time!

After years of raising children, helping to grow family businesses, working on the school’s PTAs, and being a Foster Carer, it was time for a change in my life. I have always wanted to work in the care sector, but I just didn’t know in which area! I feel very fortunate to be the Lifestyles Manager at Birchwood Heights. I love putting together a varied, weekly activity programme for our residents to enjoy. This is by far the most rewarding job I have ever had; I love encouraging our residents to try new things and to socialise with each other. I also feel very blessed to be working alongside a fantastic, kind, caring team who all want the same thing… for our residents to have the best life possible!
