Cheriton Care Home is a real home-from-home in the heart of Dorset’s county town of Dorchester. Comprising Badbury House and Maumbury House, offering high-quality, affordable residential, respite, reablement and dementia care.

Friends and family members are welcome to visit at any time, and there’s always tea and coffee on hand.

After a £½ million refurbishment programme, Cheriton is fully equipped to deal with a range of needs and requirements.

Cheriton Care Home has four lounges and two dining rooms, which means there’s plenty of space for group activities, or somewhere to find a quieter spot.

Residents and visitors are welcome to use the free Wi-Fi. And there’s an iPad for residents and visiting families to use. Skype calls work really well.

Visitors often bring in their own devices. They use the Wi-Fi to show loved ones videos and photos, and to play games.

Cheriton has 71 bedrooms, with a range of room sizes, including some able to accommodate couples.

Some rooms have en-suites and others have en-suite wetrooms, which make showering easier. The rooms without en-suites have accessible toilets, bathrooms or wetrooms within easy reach.

Residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms with their own photos and furniture.

Personal possessions help residents feel at home, and provide extra stimulation and time for reminiscence. They also give staff an important understanding of a resident’s history and what’s important to them.

Each bedroom’s front door is a different colour and style, which makes it more recognisable.

My mum was in the care of Cheriton Care Home (Badbury Care Home) for five years. In that time she was cared for by the lovely staff, all of whom were like family to my mother and me.
I cannot fault anything. My lovely mum sadly passed away yesterday. The staff were fantastic! Compassionate, caring
and efficient, even calling me later that evening to check how I was feeling.
I will so miss seeing them all now Mum is not there.

My mother was a resident for over two years until her recent death aged 100. The care both general and nursing given is excellent 24/7 and communication with myself has also been superb. My wife and I chose this care home from 4 others not only because the cost was acceptable but mainly because additionally
to all the usual facilities it has a beautifully maintained secure garden for use by the residents so my mother could enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. I would recommend this home to anyone.

A fantastic care home, they looked after my Mum, gave the correct care, showed respect to her. Also made me very welcome on my visits to the care home, in fact, they gave me the complete run of the place. The staff were all attentive, nothing was too much trouble.

Visiting my sister with dementia on three unannounced visits, I found the staff very helpful in every way. The accommodation and cleanliness etc was excellent. I found my sister very happy although she did not recognise me as I live in Leicester, do not drive but try to visit her at least three times
a year.

From the first visit in April 2018 to asses the home's suitability for my mother, to the most recent, my wife and I have always been greeted by the staff and management with utmost courtesy and positivity. The home has a warm inviting feel to it, clean, fresh smelling and an air of professionalism pervade.
My mother was quickly and kindly settled in and now sees this as home. An immense relief for my wife and I.
Thank you to all at Badbury.

Recently my mother-in-law was placed into Bradbury Care Home we chose this home as we had used it previously for another relative. He was so happy during his year-long stay. We were always greeted with a good reception and offered tea and coffee. Nothing was ever too much trouble. So the choice of putting
another relative here was without any issues at all. The home is immaculate and the staff and employees are well mannered and very helpful.

My mother has been a resident for three years now.
I can not find any fault with the home - the staff are always busy but happy to help with anything I ask them. Always friendly. The food is good and plentiful with choices if need be. I visit very frequently so do all my family so have visited many
different times day and night with no problems.
The management are excellent and always give me a report without me asking. I have no problems and am very happy with the care provided.

Not always consistent regarding request not to give biscuits automatically with tea due to an increase in weight.
My mother appears to have a good rapport with the staff who are very caring.

My father-in-law is extremely happy and well looked after at Badbury. He regularly tells us he 'couldn't be anywhere better' and I totally agree.

Everyone here is welcoming and friendly. All the staff will always go the extra mile for residents and visitors. The food here is also really appetising

and the house is always immaculately clean. The family really enjoys visiting him here and it is very reassuring to know that when we're not here he is still so well looked after!

I couldn't recommend Badbury enough.

Just to say another big thank you to all of you for your kindness, care, professionalism, fun and friendship to my friend during his stay with you.
Also for your kindness to all of us, his family.
You made us feel that we were part of your family.

My Mum was only at Badbury for a short while, but was cared for so well. The staff were patient and caring and always tried to accommodate anything extra she needed or wanted. It was a difficult time for the family but we always felt supported and well informed, any concerns we had when she first moved
in were quickly looked at and solutions offered.
We also admired the way the staff were surviving the renovations that were taking place which must at times have been very disruptive to the daily routines. They always appeared happy and positive about how lovely the finished home would be. Also the management team were first class, emails and phone calls answered promptly and always available to speak to or happy to call back .
Thank you all

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.390)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.390) out of 10 for Cheriton Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.856 for Cheriton Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (89 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 104 Ratings = 4.856

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.534 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Cheriton Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 71 registered maximum number of service users is 14.2. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 14.2 = 0.634

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Denise Chrippes

Job Title: Registered Manager

Denise joined Cheriton in November 2020 following a roving role with the care home’s parent company Agincare, which saw her parachuted in to provide managerial and leadership support at homes across the country during the Covid pandemic.

The move to Cheriton saw Denise return to her Dorset roots, where her career in care started at Trafalgar Care Home, and where she progressed to Registered Manager in 2003.

Denise has built up considerable skills, knowledge and experience thanks to roles managing Agincare Live-in care services nationwide, and peripatetic roles supporting and helping area care home teams to improve and develop.

Denise said:

"I’m really proud of our staff and how warm, friendly and compassionate they are – whichever role they’re in. They all really enjoy hearing residents’ stories and getting to know each person as an individual. We have a strong team spirit and take great pride in our roles as health professionals.

No two days are the same here at Cheriton, and that’s what makes being here so interesting and fulfilling. Essentially our aim is for our residents to live as independently as possible, with someone on hand to help them."
