Mum has now passed away but I can't speak highly enough of the care she received in the last two years of her life. From the management team through to the caterers, everybody is so lovely!

I moved into the Eliza Palmer Home in January 2024 under the care of the current owner. Within a few months a meeting was called and the residents were told Eliza Palmer had been sold to Kingsley House Trust. We were assured the move would be seamless with improvements. Sadly the care went downhill,
it was rushed, up late to go to activities. Staff were leaving and the care at night was down to 1 carer for 15 residents. Activities have become less as the organiser is carer trained and helps out with the staff shortages. The new kitchen and chefs have improved the meal quality. I love my suite. The view from my window is of the gardens enjoyed by some of the residents. Sadly I do not consider the high rent value for money.

Reply from Stephen Pullinger, Marketing Manager at Eliza Palmer Care Home

Since taking over Eliza Palmer we have worked quickly to improve the service and made a substantial investment in a new kitchen, which was seen as the biggest priority by residents' families when we arrived. I am glad you have noticed an improvement in the meal quality and appreciate the quality of your bedroom suite. Our management team is always available and keen to listen to any suggestions for ways to improve our service and to take heed of things you believe we should be doing. We have a dedicated and passionate staff team and I must stress we have never been in the position of having only one carer working at night.

As a vegetarian mum has had a restricted diet from an outside meal provider. She complains of boring food! She is the only vegetarian resident so a challenge to the new chef. Bear in mind mum's taste buds are shot and she now likes sweet things which she never had before. Activities are not marked as
mum is bed bound she is naturally a private person.

Our mother first attended Eliza Palmer at the height of Covid and we were immediately impressed with the duty of care and hygiene levels in the newly built facility. The last few years mum has experienced a cognitive decline, with communication difficult at times. However, she has always been very content
and happy with her carers, the food and room facilities. Kingsley Healthcare have recently acquired the home and I cannot express enough gratitude and admiration for the levels of care and regular communication we have about mum and her condition. The team are first class and we have complete confidence in mum's care and safeguarding.

We love the home and surrounding village and it is great that we can pop mum in a wheelchair and go for a walk to sit in the garden. Mum is very happy at Eliza and joins in the activities when she can. She recently went on a riverboat trip and loved it. Generally, the staff are very good and caring,
especially on a one-to-one basis. It would be nice to have more interaction with residents at weekends from those watching TV and for those who prefer to stay in their rooms. It seems they occasionally lack company. The food whilst satisfactory at the moment could be improved, however we understand moves are underway to ensure food is cooked fresh on the premises. The nursery staff are excellent and alert us promptly if mum's health or medical needs change.

I attended the monthly Residents and Relatives Coffee and Chat morning today. It is conducted by the Care Home Manager and her Deputy and it is our opportunity to ask questions, solve any problems and generally build on relationships.
I consider this to be an extremely good event carried out in a very
happy and friendly environment.

My husband became a resident of the Eliza Palmer Hub in September of this year.
The care he has received has been outstanding and I mean outstanding.
After 3 months of residency, I feel so comfortable and reassured knowing that he is receiving the best possible care.
The staff are so caring to me
as well as my husband and I visit at all sorts of times but the greeting is always the same.
Warm and welcoming.
I highly recommend you visit and decide for yourselves.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.300)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.300) out of 10 for Eliza Palmer Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.500 for Eliza Palmer Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (78 Excellents x 5) + (11 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) + (3 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 104 Ratings = 4.5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Eliza Palmer Care Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
