Located just a few miles from Worthing, at Goring-by-Sea, Haviland House offers dedicated residential and nursing care in a purpose-built environment for people living with dementia. The care home’s design consists of five households suited to a particular stage of dementia, each with thirteen to fifteen spacious en-suite bedrooms.

Its charitable status enables the team to dedicate more time to care, while not being answerable to shareholders' investment in facilities. With a market-leading number of care staff, everyone benefits from more quality one-to-one time. The established team of highly trained carers and 24/7 nursing teams are committed to delivering high quality, person-centred care, with compassion, skill, and expertise.

The services are fully inclusive and adapt to provide the right level of care for residents, wherever they are on their journey.

The beautiful interior enhances the space throughout, offering residents a homely feel. It incorporates a dining room, lounge, spacious themed areas, and bathing facilities within each household. My wife has been looked after by Haviland House for the past three and a half years. I have to say I could not have hoped for better. The staff have been remarkable in dealing with someone who can be quite difficult at times. Always the most professional and pleasant approach, no matter what.

Haviland House provides for those who live there like my mum with an extra family. The staff are warm and caring and they treat residents with love and kindness. Moments are made that are fun and in that moment she seems really happy.
Staff go the extra mile and really care about those they look after.

We are so blessed to have found this home. The staff are amazing and Mum is so happy and well cared for there.
Mum is able to have her hair and nails done, enjoy the outings she has and she loves the garden. Lots of entertainment for her, singing and dancing, she looks 20 years younger since she has
been there. She is safe and well looked after and we receive regular updates and photos by email as we live overseas.

The outstanding feature of Haviland House is the dedication, skill and personal warmth of all the staff, most notably the carers but also the administrative staff and management. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The building is light and spacious and imaginatively furnished and decorated, with
an attractive garden, and the general atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. It is a great comfort to know that my wife is affectionately cared for and her personal requirements efficiently managed.

We were arranging for my mother to transfer to Haviland House in support of her needs when she unexpectedly suffered a catastrophic medical decline. In spite of this, staff expedited her admission to the home and gave her loving and generous end of life care, easing her passing and providing me with
much needed and valued emotional support. I cannot speak highly enough of the care which she received in her final days. I am only sad that she did not get a chance to make greater use of the wonderful opportunities which Haviland offers to residents but will ever be grateful to everyone there for the way in which she was looked after during her respite stay.

Such a terrible experience - my mum spent 5 weeks at Haviland and she deteriorated massively - we could not regret the decision to send her there more. The management behaved appallingly and since leaving we have realised how many mistakes were made from day 1. Their apologies since cannot undo the
damage done and I cannot urge potential residents' relatives to keep their loved ones away from this home enough.

Unfortunately, there are times when a person's circumstances change, and they can no longer be safely cared for in a particular setting. In this instance, we identified that your mum required treatment in an acute hospital setting, as her needs could not be met at the home. This is extremely rare, but the decision was taken in the best interests of your mum, other residents and staff.

A full and comprehensive internal and independent review has been conducted and the outcomes of these have been provided to you separately.

Again, we are sorry that the experience didn't meet your expectations. We hope that your mum's situation is improving, and we wish you well for the future.

Overall Haviland House staff either management, care staff or office staff always have a caring, friendly attitude. I compliment your training in this regard.
Sometimes when agency staff are in the unit they often look unsure about what to do and I wonder about the training they come from the agency
or college? There is one particular person from an agency and the attitude is excellent and I wonder why Haviland House haven't encouraged them to join them (maybe they have) I am very satisfied with what I see in most places and I realise care staff are a valued asset in at all times.

I was so worried about leaving my husband for the first time but the staff made him feel so welcome and really put my mind at ease. They could not do enough for us to make sure he was settled and happy. I would definitely recommend and use Haviland House again in the future.

My wife was transferred from another home because they were not equipped to cope with her dementia. So I am pleased with the way my wife is looked after at Haviland House. She is clean and tidy, and well dressed.

My mum loves all the activities which take place every day. I have a copy of the activities schedule and wondered if they would take place but they really do. I am sent photos of my mum taking part, she is always smiling and happy. Mum also loves having her hair, nails and feet pampered and it is a
real comfort for me to know she is visited every week by the affiliated GP. The staff are always caring and welcoming. I receive regular updates on how my mum is and all staff take the time to talk with me when I visit. My mum has made so many new friends who she introduces me to. Thank you Haviland for making what could have been a difficult transition for my mum and our family so much better.

My mum has been at Havilland House for some time and I wanted to submit a new review to say a big thank you for the love and care shown to my mum by her amazing and lovely carers who go above and beyond to care for my mum and to make Haviland her home, she absolutely loves them. The housekeepers also
take time to sit and chat and engage with mum. How lovely they have been there for myself and my mum throughout this awful period and I could not have got through without them they are amazing. The new management team are also doing an excellent job cannot recommend Haviland enough and they should not change anything.

My friend has been with the group for five years now, most of that time in Haviland House as her condition has worsened. I am overwhelmingly grateful to them for the care they have taken with her, particularly during lockdown when it has been so difficult to visit. They seem genuinely to care about

My mother has been a family member at Haviland House for several years and is well cared for and settled in the home. I think her general health improved with the care she has received, with pain management and dietary needs catered for. The last two years have been very challenging with the pandemic
but relatives have been kept informed during the lockdowns and facilities set up for face to face meetings when possible or video calls when necessary. Activities have continued to take place where possible and I have been sent regular photographs and updates of my mother enjoying taking part which is greatly appreciated in these unprecedented times. I would recommend Haviland House as an excellent care facility for dementia patients, where residents are treated as family members with dignity and respect.

My mother has been at Haviland House for nearly 3 years now. The care is second to none. The staff are all very caring and friendly and seem to really know my mum. Her dementia has developed over time, and she has moved households to be with others at a similar stage to her (which is a very effective
system in my view). At each stage, the staff take time to get to know her. During Covid lock-downs when I was not able to visit, I remained confident that my mum was loved and cared for - which was very special. I am now an essential caregiver, which means I can visit my mum in her bedroom. The staff are super friendly and welcoming, often bringing in cups of tea.
I looked at a lot of homes when looking for residential care. From the get-go, Haviland House had a different atmosphere, and it was the first one that I felt would be okay - and I haven't been proved wrong.

Mum has been at Haviland House for 3-years. She is very settled there now and has a great team of mainly regular carers who are very kind to her. They always make me feel welcome and I have confidence that despite the severity of Mum’s dementia they genuinely care about her and look after her well.
Things have really improved over the last year under a new management team. She has a lovely room which is always clean and she is well fed and looked after. The only negative of Haviland is the extremely high cost.

The key nursing care provided by staff at Haviland has always been excellent, and I have no hesitation in recommending this element to friends/family if asked. However, the current Covid pandemic has revealed a weakness in regards to general communications with relatives during various lockdowns over
the last 18-months. Most care homes across the country were geared up to have 'face to face' contact with relatives, which is the ideal situation, and Haviland, I feel struggled with making the switch to emails/video calls/phone calls when the pandemic took hold and could have been supported better by the internal IT team. Even now, the communications with relatives are still patchy. Basically, any changes to visiting arrangements/temporary lockdowns/diarrhoea and vomiting outbreaks/change to policy etc tend to 'leak out'. Relatives really need to have access to all the latest information and at the same time, please.

Avallon McCormack

Job Title: Care Home Manager

Joined: 2022

I joined Haviland House as Care Home Manager on November 22. I started my career in Health and Social care in 2012 as an administrator at a nursing home in Brighton. I quickly progressed to Deputy Manager and then to Care Home Manager before moving on to be Registered Manager at an 80-bed Residential and Dementia Home.


I cannot envisage another career with more varied days, challenges and rewards than this role brings and the chance to make a positive change in people’s lives is a real motivator. I really enjoy being a manager with the ability to influence positive change, support a team and drive the highest standards of person-centred care.


The whole team at Haviland House show passion and dedication to providing a high level of care for people living with Dementia. We ensure our residents are fulfilled, engaged, well cared for and happy. Getting to know the people we care for, seeing them happy and empowering them to live their lives is one of the greatest rewards.

Job Title: Wellbeing and Activities Coordinator

My journey at Haviland House began in 2022 when I joined as a Dementia Support Worker. In August 2023, I had the privilege of taking on the role of Wellbeing and Activities Coordinator, which has been incredibly rewarding.


My primary responsibility as the Wellbeing and Activities Coordinator is to deliver a diverse range of activities aimed at stimulating the mental and physical well-being of our residents. One of the most important aspects of my role is ensuring that these activities are accessible and enjoyable for individuals at all stages of dementia and with varying abilities.


I genuinely love what I do. Being a part of our residents' daily well-being and creating a fun, positive atmosphere to care for them is at the heart of my role. It's incredibly fulfilling to contribute to their lives and make a meaningful impact on their overall quality of life.


My dedication to the residents at Haviland House drives me, and I am deeply committed to providing the best possible care and support to enhance their well-being.
