Do not send your relative to this care home. Relative has been in 5 days on discharge from hospital despite daily request to mobilise. They have left her in bed on her own. She is used to being in a care home with people engaging with her, not left to lie on a bed like a dog. We have been asking for
an inflating mattress to prevent sores, no one has taken responsibility always passing the buck. Despicable care.

All staff are agency some speak little English.
There is no compassion present, my grandad lost 10kg within 4 weeks of being here, no supplements were provided.
He was given toast for breakfast and constantly coughing on liquids which I raised so many times that he needed a salt assessment that never
took place.
My grandad was left for 6 days with a fractured arm. How they were able to complete personal care without knowing was a joke, his arm was swollen and bruised and he was in pain!
I noticed his arm and a doctor was called in. He was then on morphine for the pain in the hospital. He then deteriorated that much after losing 10kg and the fractured arm that he passed away from aspiration which caused pneumonia so I was right he did have problems swallowing and if he had been assessed by the salt team he wouldn’t have lost 10kg in 4 weeks of being there. All of this led to the death of my grandad! The issue is it’s all agency staff that come and go. Never would I allow a family member to go here.

Management of this home is a joke, the company has had one manager after another, and recently a period where there was none. No evening/weekend management coverage. Very little continuity with care staff, the majority being Agency, of which a good percentage speak or understand little English, to the
point most of the time we have given up. In July, fire alarms were set off, at least twice a day for Staff training due to high turnover. Consideration? Was this given to the residents, who were left alone, or sitting below an extremely irritating fire alarm? Management is very rarely available for any concerns. Covid jab was given, request for this not to be done. I could go on and on!
A few staff have been excellent, but they are under pressure supporting the constant turnover of staff, no new member of staff can replace a permanent member it takes weeks and time with the resident to be a 100% member of the team. This 'home' is run on tick-boxing exercise and no more!

As a family member, I feel each time we voice ourselves in regards to helping my brother in any way the staff see it as a negative thing. i.e. every time we voice something its taken negatively i.e. even just saying we want to take our brother out with his 121 to the park for a few hours was refused
and then further seen as the family being unreasonable (my brother had texted because the weather was warm and he just wanted to go out for few hours). I was shocked at the response and more importantly, was told the nurse has gone home stressed because of the family (all we did was ask for a reason for the change/refusal ? and a copy of the change of policy). Then to our shock, we all went park without my brother but then got a phone call from our neighbour that he was dropped off there! no communication from the care home at this point to say this happened and on top of that the 121 left him on his own there! I really hope other people feel like they cannot voice themselves and it really healthy to have 2-way communication.

My father was transferred to Hawthorn House after a long hospital stay for assessments before being considered for transfer to a suitable environment. We were impressed from the outset by the dedicated and conscientious care staff provided. Dad has dementia with challenging behaviours but their care
and attitude was excellent. As dad has deteriorated they have shown compassion and understanding. They have provided dad with dignified care and us with moral and practical support. They have listened carefully and addressed our concerns. They have involved other professionals as needed and continued to keep us up to date and fully informed on dads needs and condition. We have requested dad stay at Hawthorn House for the rest of his now time limited care, secure in the fact he and us as a family will continue to be supported. Thank you to all staff involved.

Just one thing that I noticed the TV has not changed. There are new channels of which may be of some importance, one of which has the golden oldies, which I feel may have some benefit to some of your guests.

I would like to say a huge thank you to all the staff who looked after my mother until her passing.

My mother was treated with respect and dignity throughout her stay at Hawthorne House. The staff were amazing right up to the end. Although they were so busy with other matters, time was always found

to spend time and see to my mother's needs and requests.

Their respect and compassion extended to family members as well.

So, many grateful thanks to Hawthorne House and it's amazing staff.

Very impressive care home with lovely gardens and buildings, staff are so amazing with a real understanding of their residents and show respect and dignity at all times. We have found this to be a very lovely place, lots of things for residents to do and usually always something going on with lots of
small areas to sit and have a cuppa and a chat.

A very pleasant aspect to the care home with good car parking. The entrance hall and reception areas are impressive. All areas are well furnished and in restful colour schemes. The staff are excellent in their approach to very different residents. The food provided is cooked on site and the various
choices show imagination and flair. It is of good quality and plentiful.

We visited Hawthorne House regularly when my husband was able to come for lunch, met lots of lovely staff, they could not do enough for us. Was made to feel very welcome i.e., nothing was too much trouble. It's confusing being married to someone with dementia and I often felt very alone. At Hawthorne
House, I found extremely supportive staff and other families where we used to meet often, have a meal, chat and feel accepted. The staff here are absolutely amazing. Thank you.

My husband was the first resident at Hawthorne House, having suffered with vascular dementia for some years before becoming too ill to be cared for at home. After we'd made the difficult decision for my husband to go into full-time care, my family and I viewed several care homes locally. Two of my daughters
are nurses and they knew what to look for when deciding on the right place for my husband.
We were immediately impressed with Hawthorne House. Being new, the facilities were of the highest quality we'd seen. But it was the staff who made the greatest impression on us and this continued throughout the time my husband was there until he passed away, very peacefully in April this year. The staff took the time to get to know him and my family well; he was being supported by people who cared about him and us. We know my husband will be very missed by the staff, some of who came to his funeral. They made his illness and passing that bit easier to manage and my family and I will be forever grateful for that.

On our first visit to Hawthorne House it felt welcoming, all staff from domestic through to management took time to speak to residents and their families and they knew all names. They were patient, caring and nothing was too much trouble. I felt reassured knowing that my husband was being looked after.

My mother is being looked after very well at Hawthorne House. I feel she has settled in quickly. The standard of care is excellent. The staff are brilliant. I visit my mother most days. The choice of meals is fantastic and there is always plenty of options. All in all, there is nothing that I would
complain about.

I have been amazed at what the service user has been doing on his days here. Brilliant. The staff are all so helpful, kind and thoughtful in all they do and make you feel so welcome. I feel very lucky that this centre has opened so near us so we are able to use it. Would definitely "sing it's praises"
to others.

Current Review Score: 1.8 (1.756)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 1.8 (1.756) out of 10 for Hawthorne House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 1.8 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 0.0 out of 5 from 0 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 1.756 for Hawthorne House is calculated as follows: ( (3 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (9 Poors x 2) + (25 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 45 Ratings = 1.756

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 0 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hawthorne House is based on 0 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) =

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 102 registered maximum number of service users is 20.4. 0 Positive Reviews ÷ 20.4 = 0

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
