    Services NOT included in price are: dentistry, chiropody,
    physiotherapy, occupational therapy, opticians, hairdressing,
    medications, toiletries, clothing, newspapers/magazines.
    During your stay, you may need to purchase additional goods
    and services. If they are able to provide such goods and
    services, they will tell you how much these goods and services
    will cost and they expect that you will pay for these goods and
    services at the time you request them.
    They can accompany loved ones to private appointments,
    however the fee attached to this is £21 per hour. Where private taxi
    services are used for transportation to appointments the cost should
    be paid for by yourself.

We chose the Hayward Care Centre for my mother when it became clear that we could no longer care for her at home. We decided on the Hayward Centre as we were impressed with the facilities and got a good feeling about the staff following an initial visit. My mother was extremely apprehensive and difficult
about living in a care home, but nearly two months on she seems to be settling in well and every week sees a further improvement in her. Everyone seems very friendly and focussed on providing care and support to the residents. The Centre is always clean and there always seems to be plenty going on.


I have just read the CQC report for the Centre which wasn't available until recently and I am surprised that the findings are below standard in most areas. Given that the Centre is fairly new I can only assume that policies and procedures are still evolving. From my impression of Hayward I would have no hesitation in recommending it to others.

Carers have been brilliant since Hayward Care Home opened. But management have been very weak and not helping with day to day care and staffing levels from start. Get management right provide support for the great staff and keep staff levels up.

My mother entered the home when it opened this spring. The staff, (from two local homes now closed) are outstanding. their kindness together with the excellent facilities and delightful surrounding have helped my mother to settle in quickly. My only criticism is that teething problems of a new establishment
e.g poor ventilation, access in and out of the building for visitors. All decisions are made by head office which is slow to react and reluctant to spend money on building mistakes and hiring a few extra staff where needed. That said we are very pleased with our choice of home for my mother. She is happy.

Thank you for acknowledging the “excellent facilities” we have here. We welcome relatives and others in helping us to identify any “teething problems” in this brand new building and I can confirm that most of these were solved within the first six months. However, in a new building it can sometimes take an infuriatingly long time to work out the best way to rectify apparently simple problems. Please rest assured that although there are some difficulties still being worked on, these are being addressed as quickly as possible.

Hayward is a new build and obviously very clean. All decoration and furnishings are first class. Very good with items along corridors to encourage looking at pictures, items of wear, instruments etc to bring back memories. The staff are extremely pleasant and helpful all of them. The food is good with
choices given at every meal to suit different tastes. The only niggle I have is that not enough staff to walk everyone around now and again. My husband needs to walk more and not keep sleeping in the chair. The garden is equipped with seating for days in the sun and to walk around on smooth tarmacked paths well thought out.

The person I visit on Potterne Unit always looks clean and tidy and appears happy. The staff are very interacting with the residents. It is always very welcoming and I look forward to my visit. The person I visit has been known to me since 2007. I used to visit when they were at another home before
moving here to Hayward Care Centre.

The staff are wonderful with the residents. The bedrooms are big, bright and each one has their own bathroom. The lounge and dining rooms are bright and light and with lots of room for the residents with frames and wheelchairs. The food is very very good, all cooked in Hayward kitchens with drinks and
snacks for the residents to help themselves to all day. I feel very happy that my mother is in such a lovely care centre.

Very kind and caring staff who have helped my mum to settle in her new home after a very difficult year following my dads death. The facilities are very good and the atmosphere is homely and comfortable. The new manager has already held meetings for families to raise any concerns and suggestions - very
pleased to see how quickly and effectively he has actioned these. Can't thank the staff enough - mum is now very happy where she is.

Meet the Team (5)

Helen

Helen Shepherd

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2011

Helen started her care career in 2001, and joined Hayward Care Centre as home manager in February 2025. She joined OSJCT Watersmead in 2011 as a carer and worked her way through many different roles. In April 2017 she was appointed Head of Care at OSJCT Brookside in Melksham and then she returned to Watersmead, where she became Home Manager, in July 2018.


Helen is extremely passionate about creating a wonderful home for her residents and championing person-centred care. “This is what I want to pass onto the team to support and develop them all to be the very best they can be”, Helen says.


Over the years Helen has completed her QCF level 2 and 3 in health and social care and she is currently working through her Level 5.


In her spare time, Helen loves spending time with her family. She has three amazing children along with Jasper, her long-haired dachshund, who she takes everywhere at the weekends. She also enjoys keeping fit with regular Zumba sessions and swimming.


Glynnis

Glynnis Galloway

Job Title: Care Service Manager

Joined: 2007

Glynnis oversees the care across the home and her ethos of care is that it’s all about enabling people to live their lives how they choose. She has worked for OSJCT since 2007 and at Hayward Care Centre since 2015.

Glynnis is a qualified psychiatric nurse and has links with the local churches to support Hayward’s residents.


She loves walking through the doors in the morning knowing that she’s going to make a difference to people in the home. Outside work, Glynnis volunteers with the local Alzheimer’s support group.


Jemima

Jemima McGrath

Job Title: Activities Co-ordinator

Joined: 2024

Jemima loves to work with people, and that is evident in everything she does. She organises a varied programme of activities for our residents at Hayward Care Centre and spends time talking to everyone, learning what each likes to do or would like to try. The activities include regular favourites like skittles, curling, music and movement, bingo, and the ever popular – and competitive! – Friday quiz.


Outside work, Jemima runs a Brownie group and teaches a ballet class. Previous roles have included being a nanny, and an outdoor activity instructor. Jemima has worked at Hayward Care Centre since February 2024.


Suzanne

Suzanne Davison

Job Title: Support Worker

Joined: 2023

Suzanne has worked at Hayward Care Centre since November 2023, and this is her first role in care.


Previously, she worked as a cabin crew.


Suzanne loves following jobs through to the end, and loves the attention to detail that her job allows, remembering all the little things about the people she cares for; who likes their tea in a mug and who prefers a cup and saucer? Who likes their toast cut into squares and who prefers triangles?


When she’s not working, Suzanne loves spending time with her young family and being out in the countryside.


Georgie

Georgie Hill

Job Title: Support Worker

Joined: 2020

Georgie has been with the Trust, and Hayward Care Centre, since 2020 and previously ran a pub with her dad before. Her role now is to support residents however they need, promoting their independence.

Georgie says that the best thing about her job is being there for the residents, day in, and day out, and hearing about their lives because everyone is different.


Outside work, Georgie likes to spend time with her family, including her nephews.
