Kingfisher Court is located in the market town of Sutton-in-Ashfield and provides friendly and comfortable residential and dementia care for up to 66 residents. All bedrooms offer single en suite wet rooms to support residents' dignity and privacy. Kingfisher Court benefits from a coffee shop area, quiet lounges and it is situated in its own private, landscaped gardens.

A wide range of activities is offered and care is tailored to each resident who lives at Kingfisher Court. Residents living with dementia receive friendly dementia care, provided by colleagues who are fully trained. The care team provides individual and compassionate care by getting to know each individual and building strong relationships with them and their loved ones.

Kingfisher Court is operated by Anchor. Anchor is England’s largest provider of housing and care for those over 55 years of age and has more than 60 years of experience as a not-for-profit provider of services to older people. This is the third care home that my Mum has stayed in and it is by the far the best. It is wonderful, a real home from home. The rooms are wonderful, all en-suite and with their own fridges to keep all those little treats fresh.


My Mum is beautifully cared for all the time and even has the option

of a shower every morning (as was her routine at home) although it now involves major assistance from two carers.


A major advantage is that Mum can now easily attend physio as she is taken by disabled taxi and the whole outing is just an hour a half, a far cry from the six-hour stints when she travelled by hospital transport. I visit two or three times a week and the first question from the staff, who are very much in evidence, is 'Do you want a coffee?'. Then 'Are you stopping for lunch?' This week we had a formal evening meal with Mum at a pop-up restaurant - just wonderful and all included.

As a family, we looked at several residential care homes in the area but were very impressed when we viewed Kingfisher Court. The standard of décor and furnishings is more of a boutique hotel than a care home. The facilities including the library, tea room and cinema are exceptional. Gardens are well
laid out and beautifully kept and a lovely garden room allows a taste of the outside for the less mobile.
Most importantly, the staff are caring, kind, attentive and go beyond the call of duty to make new residents feel welcome and at home. Food choices are excellent, well presented and quality of a high standard. Rooms are beautifully decorated, spacious and furnished to a high standard.

My Dad came into Kingfisher Court for a respite stay and was a little unsure at first what to expect even though he was very impressed looking around on the open day. My Dad has always been treated well, in fact, I couldn't believe all the staff remembered his name just from meeting him on the open
day. He was the first male resident and the home gave him a framed photo which appeared in the local newspaper. He would not hesitate to go and stay for respite again, as each and every member of staff treats him so well. He also still gets invitations to get-togethers even though he has gone back home.
Well done Kingfisher, you are the best!

It is clear a lot of thought has been put into the design and facilities at the home but most importantly the team managing Kingfisher Court cannot do enough for the residents and family.
This is not my mothers first care home but within weeks we are seeing a notable difference and is definitely in
a happier place, even if she can't remember why.

We were very worried about a residential place for my mother in law because she had expressed a wish not to be placed in a home.
During the last 6 years I have worked for a private ambulance company transferring patients to and from nursing homes. Having seen these my original thoughts were that
I would not want a relative of mine in one. After looking after her for 7 months both my wife and I realised that we weren't qualified to give her the sort of care that was required.
I was persuaded to look at Kingfisher Court. My initial thought was that it would be typical of others but this was not the case.
When we had made the decision we admitted her and spent a few days worrying ourselves silly. Our worries were unfounded, the care staff are well trained sympathetic and extremely dedicated to making all residents happy. She is, after only 2 weeks, a different person she is coming out of her shell and is now enjoying life to the full.
I fully recommend Kingfisher Court.

Spent a long time looking for the right home for my mother when I stumbled upon Kingfisher Court whilst eating at the restaurant next door. As soon as you walk in you are greeted by smiles and warmth. My mother has been in for 3 weeks now and she is happy and settled.

When my mum came into Kingfisher Court care home in April for respite care you wouldn't believe how pleasant and friendly everyone was.
My mum felt like she was in a hotel.
She could do what she wanted when she wanted.
She was treated with dignity and respect at all times.
My mum never stops talking
about all the care staff, how nice and pleasant they are.

Today I visited my auntie, I arrived at lunchtime so thought I would have had to wait or come back later but the deputy manager said I could have lunch too.
We ate in the 'English Tea Room' which was lovely.
The kitchen staff made a range of sandwiches and 6 different mini cakes.
My auntie seems
to be very happy and well looked after. All the staff are really nice.

Amazing home.
My grandmother is finally settled and happy again. All the staff are wonderful and treat my grandmother like she is thier own. Its been nice to spend time doing things with my grandmother like planting flowers in the garden room, watching a movie in the beautiful cinema or just sitting
having a nice cup of tea and some lunch in the tea room instead of just sitting in her room.
The food is great and I know this because I have been allowed to have dinner there on several occasions.
While looking for a suitable home for my grandmother, me and my mum visited all the homes in the Sutton and Mansfield area and had actually given up looking as there wasn't any that we felt were suitable or that we thought she would be happy at. We then decided to go to the open day at Kingfisher Court and as soon as we were welcomed through the front doors we knew we had finally found somewhere. Kingfisher Court is in a league of its own in every department.

I have been overwhelmed at the kindness my mother has received since going into this home she has been in several other homes for respite care but she never felt she could settle else where. The home and staff are amazing here and personal care has been carried out with dignity. Every member of staff
are kind and thoughtful from the bottom to the top all having time to speak to her and me at any time of the day or night. All of mum's family are welcomed to the home as they are when mum was at home this means a lot to us all. The food is amazing the chef is interested in the people she serves and this shows.

Gaynor Smart-McCann

Job Title: Home Manager

I am passionate about working in care and have always considered myself to be a people person. It is a huge privilege to work with others and to know that I am the driving force behind a service where all people matter. I consider myself to be a kind and empathetic person who is a good listener at all levels.


I have worked in care for a long time, and there are many reasons for this. I love the fact that the smallest of gestures mean the most to others, and if, during the course of my working day I can make others feel valued and genuinely cared for, then I know that I am making a difference to someone’s life. Caring for others is the most rewarding career to have.


An integral part of my role is to forge strong relationships with residents and their families and friends, their input will be fundamental to the quality of the service at Kingfisher Court. I enjoy supporting and developing my staff team to deliver the highest standard of care. I take pride in providing outstanding care to my residents, and having a good team who share the same values is vital to achieving this goal.


I am a perfectionist who enjoys the attention to detail that comes with this job, I like to focus on the standards of attainment required to hold the position that I love.

I’m Nicky, I have worked in Health and Social Care for around 17 years now and my work means so much to me.


I enjoy working with people, supporting them, and encouraging them, leading a happy, fulfilled team! I love getting to know the residents that I support, hearing their stories and learning about their lives, and delivering hands-on care, that enables me to develop a person-centred approach.


I haven’t been here at Kingfisher long, but I have a good feeling about the home, it is such a warm, welcoming, happy place to be. I’m sure that I will fit in well here, I work well under pressure and love having an open door to enable both the residents and their families and me to develop a close professional relationship based on honesty and trust. I feel very fortunate to have been given this opportunity and I am grateful for the warm welcome that I have received. My job takes up a lot of my time but when I’m not at work, I spend my time playing with my 3 Children, enjoying the company of my husband, and saying I will go to the gym!

I’m Merv O’Connor, I started at Kingfisher Court in 2023 as the Maintenance Person, I have not worked in care previously, but thoroughly enjoy the change in direction, I left school at 16 and joined the Army as a Combat Medical Technician, travelling and seeing service in a number of locations, upon discharge from the Army, I attended university, obtaining my BA (Hons) in Business, followed by an MA and PhD in Strategic HR and Operational Management, this led to a direction change and I became a business consultant to the food industry, working on a variety of contracts from building factories to developing new products, as well as converting an amusement arcade into my own pub!


Working with the amazing team and residents here at Kingfisher Court makes it worthwhile coming to work!!
