The facilities are wonderful. It’s such a nice home. Very clean and well-equipped. Staff are amazing. Friendly and engaging, and they really seem to enjoy their work and genuinely care about doing the job well with professionalism and empathy. Food quality and choice are excellent. I feel at ease knowing
that my mother is safe, secure and being well looked after.

I arrived here nearly two years ago and was impressed with the home. Changes in management meant that standards appeared to drop somewhat, particularly in relation to the kitchen/dining room arrangements. The current manager has rectified the situation in many ways and indeed has improved standards
overall in the home. The manager's task is very difficult as while we are all treated well, several residents appear to need one to one attention, which means all the staff are kept very busy and cleanliness standards drop a little.

My blind, 91yrs, wheelchair user mother has been a resident for nearly 13months in Mathieson House.
Hoping for many changes, badly needed 5 managers in a year! - At last, a caring, hardworking, responsible manager to steady this care home. With the addition of a good activities person, also front of
office help, at last, these people have slowly affected changes to support some wonderful human beings. (staff) Thank you for supporting my mother.

This was the first time my 92-year-old mum had expereinced respite care. I could not have chosen a better care home for her to be in.
The management and staff were all excellent. The standard of decor and cleanliness was to a very high standard. The food was plentiful and nutritious. I would have no
hesitation in using Mathieson House again. My mum thoroughly enjoyed her stay there.

As a family, we have tried many care homes throughout Edinburgh for respite for my Grandmother. After finding Mathieson House this was a miracle. Could not ask for a better service.

The care home itself is immaculate, such a friendly team that bend over backwards to accommodate the person in respite

and their family. For example getting in diabetic ice cream. I was asked if I wanted to go and eat but had just eaten a huge meal. The food smelt delicious. Her room was amazing and very clean.

The team, I wish I could mention names, were fantastic with everyone. It is nice to see people being treated with respect.

The only small issue is that some clothes of my Grandmother have been mislaid but the team are looking for them and will get in touch with the family once found.

We have already booked my Grandmother in 2 more times.

Matheson House is great value for money and cannot speak highly enough of the place.

Wish as a family we had found this place a long time ago.

My mother spent a week of respite. She had a wonderful time. On arrival, she believed she was staying in a lovely 4* hotel! So kind, lovely care and a beautiful room. She was so happy. She was v well cared for, baths or showers daily. Good food and they even got in diabetic ice cream as she is a type
1 diabetic!
Staff were wonderful - all of them!

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.3 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.917 for Letham Park Care Home (Mathieson House) is calculated as follows: ( (11 Excellents x 5) + (1 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 12 Ratings = 4.917

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.25 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Letham Park Care Home (Mathieson House) is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 20 registered maximum number of service users is 4. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 4 = 0.25

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
