As I've done nursing, this is the cleanest place I have been to, there is not that horrible smell when you walk in, it is nice and fresh. The staff are so friendly and look after your friends and loved ones so well. Always contact with updates and look after you as well as the residents, if I could
book in I would.

I was asked to come to Mcgonagall House by my Doctor. At first, I was reluctant but agreed in the end. It turned out to be the best move I made in years, for being an alcoholic I was on a downward spiral to a quick end. The staff at the house made me welcome and were not judgemental, the rooms are very
comfortable with an ensuite wet room, the food is satisfactory and since Enhance Healthcare has been holding the reins, the place has had a remarkable makeover. I have had reviews with my care worker and I look forward to quite a long stay at the house, which now has become my home, and to reside in relative comfort. I have made a remarkable recovery with the help of the staff and management at the house and the security it provides. This journey has taken me 3 years on the 14th of June, and it has been well worth it.

The more visits I make to the care home, the more I am disappointed by the standards. Tonight, the evening meal was disgusting - cheap frozen fish cakes and watery spaghetti hoops. There was no care taken with the presentation.
The previous visit, I witnessed two staff members removing a resident from
the lounge, with no warning to the resident and completely against all moving and assisting protocols. It was upsetting to witness. My friend who is a resident eats his meal alone every single evening, in his room with the door closed and there is very little age-appropriate activity for him to engage in. One staff member is very intrusive when I visit and I worry about the resident safety and care standards when there are no visitors present. Staff seemed to change continually and staffing levels appear to be an issue. Would not recommend.

Thank you KF for leaving a review of our carehome. We are disappointed that you felt the need to leave a review which is factually incorrect. We uphold standards within our carehome which are evident with positive and excellent care inspectorate and infection control reviews. Our meals are tasty and home cooked, the salmon fishcakes that evening were homemade. We engage with our residents regularly on menu choices. We will not discuss personal residents' information in such an open forum, however, you are more than welcome to contact me directly to discuss any matters of concern that you may have. We welcome feedback from visitors.

Current Review Score: 8.4 (8.353)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.4 (8.353) out of 10 for McGonagall House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.905 for McGonagall House is calculated as follows: ( (19 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 21 Ratings = 4.905

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.448 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for McGonagall House is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 31 registered maximum number of service users is 6.2. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 6.2 = 0.323

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
