The environment at Meadow View is beautiful, with spacious bedrooms with walk-in wet rooms, a sun terrace, welcoming lounges, a salon and cinema room.

But it’s the team, who were proud to receive a Good rating in every area in the latest CQC report (August 2023), that make it feel like home. Providing residential and dementia care, they also offer respite care breaks, which can be booked in advance.

Staff are passionate about enriching their residents’ lives, and every single day, come rain or shine, every member of the team stops what they are doing to spend time doing impromptu activities with the residents.

Meadow View is a thriving, vibrant home, where residents enjoy everything from baking, painting, gardening and reminiscence sessions, to pampering, live music and regular visits from their favourite therapy dog.

This summer (July 2023) the staff organised a ‘Virtual Cruise Week’, where they transported residents to countries across the globe. The chef recreated authentic cuisine from Ghana, Portugal and Italy to name but a few, staff dressed to the nines and the residents took part in themed activities.

And talking of food, the home’s chef, who won Best Chef in the South East Region at this year’s Sanctuary Care Chefs’ Conference (2023), makes delicious home-made meals every day, as well as home-baked treats for afternoon tea. She knows her residents’ nutritional needs and what they love to eat, spending time getting their feedback, which shapes her menus. And every day, she creates ‘show plates’ so her residents, particularly those living with dementia who may struggle to choose, can see and smell the food, stimulating their appetite.

The gardens are magnificent, with a summer house, wheelchair-friendly pathways and a water feature. This summer the residents enjoyed growing their own vegetables, harvesting them to use in the kitchen, giving them such a sense of achievement.

My husband, suffering from advancing dementia, became very difficult and obstinate especially about the people trying to care for him. The staff at Meadow View dealt with this admirably and were always helpful and supportive towards me as well.

Reply from Fae Doherty, Senior Marketing Officer at Meadow View Residential Care Home

Thank you for your feedback. I am glad to hear you are happy with the care your husband received whilst with us and the support you also received from our team. I will be sure to pass this onto them. Best wishes, Senior Marketing Manager.

My father was a resident of Meadow View from September 2016 until May 2019. He initially went there because of his physical deterioration but he subsequently suffered from extreme dementia due to his Parkinson's.
It is always easy to pick fault with places and, yes, I had niggles over some aspects
of his stay there. However, overall I cannot fault the level of care he received from the staff at all levels and roles. Even when he was living in a little world of his own, when members of staff came to his room, it was clear from the lighting up of his eyes that he was happy with them looking after him.
When he passed away, I was very touched that a couple of carers took the time, their own free time, to come to his funeral. When we went to clear his room, we were very touched at the number of people who came to give their condolences.
If you want a care home that is caring, this is the one.

My friend was a resident at Meadow View since February 2016. She entered the Home following a fall at home and suffered from very bad leg ulcers and was at the beginning of Dementia. Unfortunately during the time she was a resident, her Dementia worsened and subsequently, she deteriorated. During
all the time of her stay, she was cared for with compassion and dignity.

All the staff, from the receptionist to the care staff were very professional in their attention of my friend and was very impressed with her care. The visiting supporting Staff who came to engage in activities with the residents were also professional in the dealings with them. Playing cards, playing music to suit their age group. The home even had a 24hr cyclethon (of which I took part) to raise money to add to and improve facilities within the home.

I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this home to prospective residents.

The care given to my husband during his 2 and a half year stay at Meadow view are beyond words. There was care and unconditional love. This was also offered to myself as his wife.
I shall never forget the staff, we were so lucky to find Meadow View.

My experience with Meadow View was good. The staff were excellent, always eager to help and treated me with great respect. They also looked after my dying wife with great dignity. The only downside to Meadow View was the cleanliness. It could have been so much better. Plus there seemed to be a shortage
of cleaning staff. Plenty of caring staff.

Staff are changed to different departments most days so no continuity of care, i.e. staff don't know or not been there and no follow up phone calls to relatives when they were promised.
General cleaning poor, dirty and stained carpets, sticky tables and chairs throughout, rooms and toilet dirty, carpets
stained, lack of hygiene.
Laundry service poor, clothes going missing when clearly name marked, cloths returned to wrong rooms, clients dressed in other persons clothes.
The staff all work hard at what they do but change department (floors) frequently so no continuity of care as every day are dealing with different clients.
Because of this, clients find it hard adjusting to the different staff on a daily basis. Also, the staff are unaware of how the client was the day before, also not able to report any changes to relatives.

Reply from Fae Doherty, Marketing Officer at Meadow View Residential Care Home

Dear Ann, thank you for your feedback. I have spoken to the home manager about your review and he was quite concerned as you have not raised these issues with him before, so was unaware that you felt this way. The laundry team are currently revising their way of working, and the manager's door is always open if you would like to speak to him about the above further. Best wishes, Fae

Mum has been a resident for nearly 3 years and in all that time care and respect has been shown at all times. A new Manager has recently been in post and is arranging relatives meetings every month. Last month was his first meeting and he has done everything asked. Family members that can only visit
weekends do not appreciate the activities that take place during the week, but having a photo album for us to look through has made a difference. Newsletters have been produced which again has enabled the family to have a bit of an insight into the daily lives of the residents. It was good that mum is "travelling around the world" through food and not just her imagination. Well done to the Manager and all staff, I can't praise the care staff enough. They do care!

My mother was taken into care in October 2017 suffering from dementia. She was well looked after by the staff. She fell ill in July and was taken to hospital in an ambulance. What I find hard to believe is that no one from the home went in the ambulance with her. I arrived at the hospital two hours
later to find my mother in A&E all alone and wondering where she was.

Reply from Ian Chandler, Home Manager at Meadow View Residential Care Home

Thank you for your review and positive ratings and recommendation. I am really sorry to read your comment about the hospital, unfortunately it is not always possible to send a staff member in the ambulance because we have to make sure the correct number of staff remain in the home to continue to care for our residents. I can assure you there were two highly trained paramedics who attended the hospital in the ambulance.

Staff and manager are excellent. The design is fairly good, being a new build and all and has a nice, though spartan garden. Clothes go missing a lot, however.
Because of the way it's built though it does feel like an institution. If you're going to send your loved ones there though make sure they're
not sent upstairs unless they are completely gone because its impossible for residents to go downstairs and into the garden without relatives help. The balcony upstairs remains locked and out of bounds virtually all the time so residents upstairs can't go out so in nice weather it is perhaps just an attractive design feature next to the heavily used main road that can be quite noisy and disturbing for the residents (not good if you got dementia as well as the pollution and sirens) should have been built behind their commercial houses. After two years, there still isn't a minibus to take the residents out and give them and the staff some relief from the place which is a pity for such a rich company.

Reply from Ian Chandler, Home Manager at Meadow View Residential Care Home

The Home Manager said: Thank you for your review and lovely comment about our team, who try to make Meadow View as warm and welcoming as possible. We do ask for clothes to be labelled but I appreciate sometimes these may come off or wear off. Our gardener has been working hard to keep the garden looking as lovely as possible in the hot weather and we’re hopeful now it’s cooled down a bit this will give the plants the chance to re-establish themselves. We lock the balcony for safety reasons as it is on the first floor, but will always open it when asked which is something we explain to our residents and their loved ones. Some of our residents love to spend time in the garden and we are more than happy to accompany them outside – irrespective of what floor they are on. In terms of trips out, we are able to hire a community minibus. If you would ever like to discuss anything please do feel free to come and see me, my door is always open.

The care my father received over two years he spent at Meadow View enabled him to enjoy a quality of life that would not have been possible had he remained under care arrangements at home. The standard of the rooms is excellent, as you would expect from a purpose built modern care home. I would have
no hesitation in recommending the Meadow View Care Home at Hersden near Canterbury.

Reply from Paul Roche, Customer Relations Manager (London & East) at Meadow View Residential Care Home

Thank you for your kind review Peter and we are delighted that Meadow View met with yours and your Father's expectations. It's a difficult decision placing a loved one into a Care Home but glad to see we were able to have an impact on his quality of life.

My father has been with Meadow View for the last two years. During his stay, the care he has received has been first class and the staff have been friendly and attentive. The room was excellent with superb en-suite facilities and a lovely view over the gardens. I could not have wished for a better
environment for him and would like to thank the staff for all their care during his stay.

The care that Mum received at Meadow View was second to none! She presented with some extremely challenging behaviours due to frontal temporal dementia and was physically very active; wanting to go out for walks all the time. Staff managed this with great care, love, enthusiasm and an amazing sense
of humour. They went out of their way to allow Mum as much independence as was possible and treated her with dignity and respect.
During the year that Mum lived there, it was not only her home but somewhere that we could all visit and be made to feel welcome 'part of a happy family'. We never doubted that she was safe and well looked after and when she became suddenly quite poorly, staff responded professionally and efficiently; good communication with each other, GP and with family was maintained at all times.
I can never thank them enough for the peace of mind and for the quality of care throughout the time she lived there.

My previous place - 'Hades'. This place - 'Heaven'. The place is exceptional along with the staff. I have never experienced, anywhere, a more caring staff. In my case, in 'Hades', I was dying. Here, I have made a full recovery. I will always be very grateful for this place for giving me a future.

As a family, we were distressed and heartbroken when our father could no longer be cared for at home. Due to Alzheimer's disease and vascular dementia, he was in need of 24-hour care which, as a family, were unable to provide safely. Our mother, who bore the brunt of the care, was suffering from carer
burden. While our father was in emergency respite care, we began the upsetting task of viewing care homes. As a family, we found most homes lacking and could not agree. Some homes seemed caring but were old and dingy. Others were modern but lacked character. However, we were delighted to find "Meadow View". We can't thank you enough.

Thank you for the care, patience, concern and support offered to my mother during her time with you.
Each and every one of you has made mum’s time with you special. Your support and tenderness to her has been outstanding and can be recognised by the many statements of love she made to each of you.
We
know that Mum’s passing will leave a space in your hearts as it does ours. But we believe that thanks to each of you, mum was able to enjoy her last years in a way that we could never have provided for and her final months in the presence of a wonderful team of caring and compassionate individuals whose only ambition was that her distress and discomfort were minimised.
Our heartfelt thanks for the kindness so generously extended to our mum and ourselves during her time with you.

We have been caring for our aunt for 7 years now, she suddenly deteriorated needing 24/7 care. We visited a few care homes and they didn't provide what we wanted for our aunt, safety, companionship, activities, care and lovely clean comfortable room and ensuite until we were recommended Meadow View.
From our 1st telephone call it was sold to us. The staff have been so supportive of auntie and us, auntie is safe, has a wonderful room, lots of activities etc, she looks better than she has for months (so do we). All in all, we can't recommend Meadow View enough especially certain staff. Thank you all so much.

Meadow View is a wonderful Care Home and is the finest example of how a Care Home should be run.
The Home keeps you informed of your relatives welfare and condition and nothing is too much trouble. The staff are very caring and go that extra mile to make the residents feel cared for and comfortable.
You
can visit at any time and are always made welcome with a cup of tea, so what you see is what is happening all the time, so no set visiting times. During the last days of my step-father's life, he was made very comfortable, staff were sitting reading to him during his last hours and the family feels assured that his passing was very peaceful.
Thanks a million to the staff, you deserve medals.

My mother has only been a resident at Meadow View Residential Care Home since 30/09/16. Already she has been involved in activities and participated in card making and reminiscing over pictures of places she and my father used to frequently go. I feel it is important my mother takes part in the homes
daily activities as I believe it is helping her to settle in which has helped me to accept the situation.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.557)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.557) out of 10 for Meadow View Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.907 for Meadow View Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (98 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 107 Ratings = 4.907

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.65 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Meadow View Residential Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 12 = 0.75

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
