We enjoy coming to visit our friend who is a resident. The staff are always very friendly and encourage us to take part in activities going on. The professional care our friends receives is first class. We want to wish every one a Happy Christmas and a good New Year.

Amidst all the difficult times with Mum and Dad, there's some real diamonds with the manager and the team at Mearns View.
I also can't speak highly enough of the staff and all the girls who organise the activities. I joined the folks yesterday for chair zumba and reflexology and actually felt like
a load had been lifted off my shoulders - I can only imagine how good the folks felt. Wondering maybe if I should just move in too!?
Anyway, I've just left the folks having joined them for coffee at a karaoke sing-a-long this morning - what a beautiful energy in the room. Everyone's spirits were so high and it looked like Mum and Dad had made quite a few new friends. We were definitely hogging the mic at times though so I apologise for what I thought were harmonies. I'm removing Islands in the Stream from my karaoke repertoire, the staff will be glad to know.

My wife has spent the last year of her life in the Mearns View Care Home, Newton Mearns. The personal service and help she was given by the management, nurses and staff was excellent. The program of enjoyable events: live entertainment, barbecues, board games and films, not to mention the dressing-up
events such as Halloween, Christmas and Valentine's Day to keep everyone in a cheerful mood. It all added up to a stay that can be happily remembered by everyone. One memory will live with me forever - the regular peals of laughter that echo down those hallways.
My thanks to the manager and his team, they all play a part in creating a vibrant community.

My mother spent three weeks in Mearns View recuperating from a knee replacement. Mearns View were very accommodating and flexible in arranging the dates, both entry and departure. All of the staff were unfailingly helpful, kind and courteous. The atmosphere was always friendly and my mother's recovery
time passed very quickly for her.

My wife has vascular dementia and I am her carer. I was hospitalised and required respite care for my wife during my stay in the hospital. I am delighted to say that the care provided was really exceptional. The home provided a pleasant stay for my wife both emotionally and medically providing the support
that my wife required. A well-run and absolutely perfect care home that met all my requirements, above and beyond their normal duties. Very professional and caring in all aspects of care. Would highly recommend Mearns View to anyone seeking care.

My sisters and I chose Mearns View for our mother who had become quite frail and needed more specialised care as she had dementia and cancer. We had heard good reports of the care home and we were not disappointed. From management, and care staff to ancillary staff, all were exceptionally knowledgeable,
caring and kind towards both our mum and us, nothing was too much trouble. Unfortunately Mum passed away after only 2 weeks and although we were saddened at her passing, the staff members on duty took excellent care of her and I was offered a room to rest in between sitting with Mum until she passed. I thank every one of you for helping us make the transition for our mum moving from her home to yours at short notice, a stress-free free pleasant experience.
Mum's words 'it's lovely and clean, like a hotel'.

Our sister has been at Mearns View since March. She has settled extremely well and she seems to be happy and content. This is mainly due to the care and attention that she has had from the amazing staff team. The manager has clearly set out a shared vision for the care home which has filtered down to
each and every member of staff. From garden parties, trips out on the minibus and weekly quizzes, to pampering sessions, entertainment and theme days... Our sister is treated with love and dignity. This is truly her home. It is an excellent place.

My friend has settled in very quickly to Mearns View and feels very much at home here. She receives great care from the staff who are warm and attentive - nothing is too much trouble. Individual needs are the highest priority and great care and interest are taken over her welfare and comfort. She is
gently encouraged to participate in the Home’s activities.
When visiting or phoning, the staff are always very welcoming and helpful and there is good communication about matters concerning my friend. It’s always a pleasure to visit.
Mearns View is a lovely home, with tasteful decor and furnishings as well as an attractively landscaped garden, which includes a play area for visiting children. There are a number of areas for socializing with friends and family. A lot of thought has gone into making this a real home for the residents.

There’s no doubt in my mind that placing our elderly grandmother into Mearns View Care Home was the right decision. All the staff were amazing and my anxieties over the situation of placing her in care melted away after seeing how well she was being cared for. The facilities are second to none and our
gran commented multiple times on how ‘clean and comfortable her room was’ and how she was ‘being well looked after’. I couldn’t ask for anything else than to know she spent her last few days enjoying a lovely bath, getting her hair done, and eating freshly prepared food which was specified to her needs.
Sadly she passed away from natural causes at 101 years old, but I’m happy she got to leave this earth with the dignity and respect she deserved. I will always be grateful to Mearns View Care Home for the wonderful caring service they provided not just for our gran, but for us too.

I arrived here on 10/01/2024 very frightened and unsure. I did not know what to expect! Within two days I felt comfortable and able to move about the rooms. The staff have made me able to talk and discuss my wants. I hope in future I can write correctly.

My sister-in-law has been a resident within your care since August 2023. Since coming into your home we have noticed a dramatic difference in her physically and mentally. She is very content and as a family, we are so happy with the first-class care she is receiving. The home is designed to a very high
standard and offers the residents beautiful surroundings. The cafe is well used by us on our visits and offers yummy cakes and great coffee, but above all, it’s a great meeting place for family and residents.
The staff are super helpful and nothing is too much bother for them. The chef does hotel standard meals which all the residents look forward to. The cinema room is well used and again a great place for residents to meet and relax. The grounds are very private and large and in the better weather, my sister-in-law loves to sit in the beautiful garden or just go for a walk taking in nature. I would not hesitate to recommend Mearns view, it is in my opinion the best for care.

As a family we visited various care homes in the south side of Glasgow, the last one being Mearns View which we immediately agreed was the best. The staff from the outset were engaging, very helpful and most of all very caring for our elderly mother. The facility is fantastic from the bedrooms, dining
rooms, cinema room and hairdresser. Lastly, the security is first-rate as I’m sure everyone wants their loved ones to feel safe and secure in a different environment.

My aunt and uncle have been residents for the past 6/7 months, what started off as respite soon became their home and has changed their quality of life. They have been made to feel safe and secure knowing there is someone at the end of a buzzer and this is a credit to the professionalism of all staff.
Everyone goes above and beyond their duties to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents is a priority treating them with dignity and compassion. It has been a pleasure getting to know everyone, from the moment you enter you are welcomed in a friendly manner, the surroundings are immaculate and the staff are knowledgeable. The chef definitely has his work cut out for him meeting the very varied diets and demands but always leaving residents satisfied. The other facilities like the cinema, the cafe lounge and the hairdressers are again all of a very high standard, definitely five-star hotel standard. It has been my pleasure to get to know everyone. You should all be very proud.

New build (May 2023) rooms spacious with good quality decor. Storage is good with excellent quality of fixtures and fittings. Comfortable environment with a variety of communal areas allowing for good interaction of residents. Staff communicate well, extra activities organised by a full-time entertainment
manager are planned to meet a wide variety of needs e.g. visits to shopping centres, theatre, restaurants etc. Language course for example Spanish chosen by residents. A variety of clubs is available e.g. current affairs, book and cinema clubs.

Terry

Terry Blackwood

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2022

Terry is the appointed Home Manager for Mearns View and brings a wealth of experience having started in the care sector as a Care Assistant and then having progressed having gained his BSc in Mental Health Nursing. He has held previous roles of Unit Manager, Deputy Manager and more recently a Home Manager in the local area.


Terry has a genuine passion for the nursing profession and caring for others and working in the care in his own words is a great privilege and allows me to support others achieve their own personal goals by helping them live a life that is full and not dominated by diagnosis.


Ana

Ana Santos

Job Title: Deputy Manager

Joined: 2023

Ana is the Deputy Manager at Mearns View Care Home. For the past 15 years, she has been working in the healthcare sector. Following her Accountancy degree, Ana worked as an Accountant in Barcelona before moving back to Portugal to look after a close family member.


Ana’s interest in Nursing developed then and she decided to go back to university and qualify as a Nurse. She graduated as a nurse in Lisbon and worked for a private care home in Portugal for 8 years before moving to Edinburgh in 2016 where she worked as progressed to a deputy manager position. Ana moved to Glasgow in 2022 and is excited to join the team at Mearns View.


Toni

Toni Docherty

Job Title: Administrator

Joined: 2023

Toni has joined the team as our Administrator and brings with her a wealth of experience in this field.


Toni is looking forward to getting to know all of our residents and their families.


In her spare time, Toni enjoys spending time with her family and walking her dog Ben.

Lewis Pringle

Job Title: Head Chef

Lewis has been appointed as our Head Chef. Lewis has worked in the catering industry for over 30 years in Scotland. Lewis has worked in various hotels, restaurants, production kitchens and care homes. Lewis loves to cook, especially comfort food with good produce. Lewis lives local to the care home and when he isn’t standing over the hot cooker, he enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter and watching sports.


Lewis loves to involve the residents in the planning of the menus to ensure that everyone is catered for.

Linda Beedham

Linda has been a cook for 30 years. This is Linda’s second time working in a care home but she thoroughly enjoys this. In the past, Linda ran a gold hotel, and microbrewery and was a mobile chef. In her spare time, Linda enjoys horse riding and cooking for her family. Linda also spends her time cooking for the homeless.

Ilze Saulkalne

Ilze is originally from Latvia. When Ilze lived in Latvia, she completed a university degree in economics and worked as a project manager. After this, Ilze moved to Scotland where she started working as a Housekeeper for various companies. Most recently, Ilze has been working in the care home sector as a head housekeeper. Ize loves working in the care sector as she loves being able to use her skills and knowledge to help people.

Jane is employed as a registered nurse at Mearns View. She has been a nurse for 26 years and is dual-trained (Adult and Mental Health Nursing). Jane knew from a young age that she wanted to be a nurse as her gran was a mental health nurse and she loved to listen to the stories she told. Her main passion is delivering exceptional dementia care and palliative care. In her spare time, Jane enjoys walking her dogs, hillwalking with her partner, gardening, cooking, and baking. Jane is also trained in martial arts.

Sarah has worked at Mearns View for a few months and has settled in great, all residents and staff love her. Sarah is a newly qualified nurse who demonstrated excellent skills and knowledge. Sarah was previously in the Army training to be an avionics engineer. It was in the army that Sarah met her husband. Unfortunately, Sarah injured herself and had to rethink her career. Sarah started working as a care assistant in the community and began her nursing studies during the pandemic.

Nicola is a talkative, friendly, loving and respectful person who always aims to do her best in every situation thrown at her. In her spare time, Nicola enjoys reading fantasy adventure books and spending time with her family going on holidays abroad and up to the Scottish Highlands to hike.
