Ideally situated near the vibrant town centre of Newton Aycliffe in County Durham, St Clare’s Court is a friendly, purpose-built care home offering residential and residential dementia care.

A luxurious home with a warm and welcoming atmosphere, St Clare’s Court offers high-quality and personalised care and support across two communities, Bluebell and Apple Tree.

Both communities benefit from luxury decoration and hotel-style facilities across their living areas, dining rooms and bedrooms, all of which are complete with a modern finish and are easily accessible by wheelchair. Residents can enjoy a selection of home-cooked and nutritious meals in the dining room, or a catch up in the comfortable seating areas by the cosy electric fireplace over a cup of tea and homemade cake.

Residents’ bedrooms are furnished to a high standard, and Residents are also invited to decorate their rooms with small items of furniture and treasured belongings to help make St Clare’s Court feel just like home.

Some rooms also benefit from direct access to the landscaped garden, and others offer picturesque views of the beautiful outdoor space. The stunning garden is a popular spot for Residents to catch up with friends and family in the sunshine, and many enjoy tending to the flowerbeds and relaxing while listening to the birds sing.

St Clare’s Court also offers a comprehensive activities programme for Residents to enjoy, including arts and crafts, baking, local sightseeing, and relaxing pamper sessions in the home’s on-site hairdressing salon. All activities are designed to help stimulate the mind, body and soul.

Since the moment my nanna moved into St Clare's I have felt a huge sense of confidence that she is cared for as if she is one of the staff's own family. The staff are patient, caring and sensitive and have always offered a listening ear for us as a family. I honestly couldn't be happier. The areas in
the home are all well kept and very homely, so welcoming! There is always something for the residents to do to ensure they are kept stimulated, my nana has a better social life than me!

Mam moved into the home and has settled really well, thanks mainly to the care that she has received from all the staff. Knowing she was being so cared for has made a very stressful time much easier. The home itself is beautiful with all the facilities and home comforts that mam needs. I couldn't ask
for a better place for mam to be.

My mother is a resident at St Clare’s. Whenever I walk in, I’m greeted by staff who have a welcoming, warm and friendly manner. The care staff treat my mother with dignity, respect, and empathy. They always talk to her with such kindness. Being a carer is a very hard job and often thankless. However,
these girls deserve much praise and thanks. They need recognition for all they do. The care home is led by good, strong, positive leadership. As a result, the home is clean, warm and homely. In addition, the food is excellent, especially the cake trolley!

These activities include electronic devices, sport afternoons, music, arts, movie nights, as well as one off special events. All our activities are published within our weekly newsletter, which is shared with residents and relatives. Lovely staff. Especially caring and kind with Mum.
Mum, no longer young, is apt to be blunt. Yet the staff don't seem to mind and keep her supplied with tea, cakes and fruit, plus all the regular meals.
How the young carers cope with a resident's bereavement and just carry on is remarkable. Kudos
to Britain's unsung heroines.

Every time we visit, we are welcomed with open arms. Residents are very well looked after, and loads of activities for residents. Clean and well looked after. Well done, staff, especially one lady who always checks all is okay with our mother.

Thank you all at St Claire's Court for looking after both my mum and dad. Mum is enjoying all the activities and is safe and well-looked after. Dad has all his needs met, and the staff have been brilliant at keeping in touch with us, despite us living hundreds of miles away. It is a relief to know they
are both safe and can see each other despite Mum being on the dementia floor. The home is always very clean, and the staff are welcoming with lots of enrichment activities. The staff are always cheery and make the residents feel like family.

Staff very helpful, looking after my mum well. Lovely facilitates in a bright, well-lighted, warm home. It's good to know she is safe and warm, along with getting her medication on time. The home was decorated lovely for Christmas, and all residents were encouraged to join in with all the activities.

Job Title: Care Home Manager

What does kindness mean to you?


“Kind care is willing to put the needs of others first.”


As a Health Care Professional, Sarah has gained many years of experience in providing care and support for older people to enrich their lives. She is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest possible standards in care and quality of life for Residents.


Sarah shares that HC-One’s vision is aiming to provide the kindest care for each and every Resident. She uses her experience to motivate her team to deliver care and support in a way that Residents gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.


When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Sarah remarked:


“The Residents, the people. Hearing laughter in the home and supporting Residents to fulfil hopes and dreams. Everything is possible with the right love and support behind you.”


Outside of work, Sarah enjoys spending time with her favourite people, going on holidays, listening to music and reading. Sarah’s biggest achievements are getting ‘Outstanding in Care’ CQC, making the final three for Care Home of the Year and winning Rising Star of the Year.

“For me, kind care is about doing good things that bring happiness to others. In my job, I demonstrate kindness by always having a gentle nature and having the desire to make a real difference to our Residents and their families.”


Having joined the kind care team at St Clare’s Court in 2017 as a Housekeeper, Katie has worked collaboratively with her Colleagues to provide the kindest possible care to Residents, while gaining a greater understanding of the care sector over the years.


After four years at St Clare’s Court, Katie was appointed as the Resident Liaison Officer, where she continues to provide kind care to Residents and their loved ones. In her role, Katie provides a warm welcome to all new Residents and Relatives to help them settle into St Clare’s Court, helping it feel like a true home-from-home.


Katie shares HC-One’s vision is aiming to provide the kindest care for every Resident. She extends this caring approach to her Colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to Residents in a way that they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.


When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Katie remarked:


“I love getting to know all of our Residents as individuals, by understanding their likes and dislikes to ensure we deliver high quality, person-centered, and, most importantly, kind care.”


Katie’s greatest achievement is her children, who she and her husband enjoy spending quality family time with outside of work.
