Old Norse Care Home is a purpose-built luxury care home located in Grimsby, and provides friendly and comfortable residential and dementia care for up to 66 residents in single, ensuite rooms. Old Norse benefits from facilities such as a library, hairdressing salon and cinema room. There is also spacious living and dining areas for residents to relax, socialise and spend time with loved ones during visits.

The dedicated care team gets to know each resident, working with them and their loved ones to create detailed care plans so that their needs are always met. The care team provides individual and compassionate care by getting to know each individual and building strong relationships with them and their loved ones.

Residents living with dementia receive quality dementia care, provided by colleagues, who are fully trained to ensure their approach is the best for residents living with dementia.

My father in law has only been a resident for a few days but the staff and care have been very comforting He has enjoyed his showers and food and the staff have been very kind and caring this far. We all enjoyed GATSBY evening on his birthday.

As a family, we were very impressed with the level of care. My mum had a couple of episodes of vomiting and diarrhea. The staff handled Mum with great compassion and dignity, but then went on to assess Mum's condition. They quickly realised she was ill and arranged for her to have medical assessment.
They didn't just clean her up. They looked for the cause. We have great confidence in the staff.

What a team! An initial family decision that my father-in-law needed respite, quickly led us to understand that the care, support and environment of Old Norse Lodge could not be matched. The individual care and familiar staff are perfect for him and anyone who requires wrap-around care in an environment,

All the staff are very supportive. Very clean, with lots of facilities and choices of meals and activities. Welcomed us as a family. Nursing care is second to none. Two staff members in particular are awesome, another very caring and all cleaners and staff in general do all they can to help and are
friendly. They are very patient, attentive and busy. One staff member, in particular, stands out, great rapport with all and a sense of humour. Pleased our Mum is in a place that is loving and caring. Feel settled and not worried about her care there. Thank you for supporting this new phase in our lives which is difficult.

I can't recommend Old Norse highly enough. All the staff are extremely friendly and actually seem to care about the residents. I cannot say the same of other care settings we have used. From day one, Mum has been welcomed and cared for with great compassion and dignity. The home itself is well-appointed
and kept spotlessly clean. Every member of staff and management should be applauded for their efforts and dedication to the residents they care for.

My mum has been a resident since May 2024. I looked at a number of care homes in the area and only a couple I felt lived up to my expectations and those of Mum's. Old Norse Lodge just felt like a homely place and the home is immaculately clean. The staff are very friendly and professional. My mum often
says they're like extended family. As I don't live in the area I have complete peace of mind that she is being cared for. Thanks to everyone again for being there for her!

The care given to my mum has been exceptional. All the staff show empathy and respect to my mum and also to my family and to myself. They address her individual needs on a daily basis and nothing is too much trouble. The food is excellent and the environment is light, bright and very relaxing. Cleanliness
is also excellent. I cannot fault anything about Old Norse House.

Excellent care for my poorly mum. Staff are all lovely and very caring, nothing is too much trouble. Surroundings are also excellent. The attention to details is obvious and everyone we have come across has been happy to chat and help us with any request.

My grandma moved into the home at the beginning of the year, from the first initial walk around it is very clear that the home is kept at a high standard and everyone is very welcoming and genuinely caring, my grandma is so pleased that she moved into Old Norse Lodge and our family can rest assured

Came to visit my grandad at his new home recently, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff were very helpful and couldn’t do enough for us. The home is stunning, so open and bright. We have nothing but good comments about the care my grandad receives. We are very reassured that he has
a home like this to see out the rest of his days in. He’s happy and loves it here, and that’s the main thing. The staff are brilliant.

We picked the perfect care home after visiting several in the area. Staff are excellent, nothing is too much trouble. Surroundings are lovely (rooms, communal areas, bathrooms etc). Really can't think of a negative comment!

Rachael Smith

Job Title: Care Home Manager

Rachael has been actively involved in the care sector since 2011. Her journey began as a domestic in a residential/dementia home, where she transitioned into the role of a care assistant. It was during this time that she discovered her true passion for a caring role.


Demonstrating dedication and growth, Rachael advanced to become a senior care assistant and eventually assumed the position of deputy manager within the same home where she initially started as a domestic.


Seeking further progression, Rachael undertook the role of a registered manager in a residential/dementia home, successfully managing it for 6.5 years. Subsequently, she embarked on a new chapter in her career with Danforth, taking on the position of manager at Old Norse Lodge.


Rachael is committed to delivering the highest quality of care in a person-centred manner and within a homely environment. She leads a strong and passionate team that shares her dedication, maintaining high standards and a similar drive. Charlene is raising her two teenage children in Scunthorpe, a place she has called home throughout her life. Her journey in the care sector began at the age of 18, fulfilling a passion she identified during her school years.


Charlene boasts extensive experience across various facets of the care sector, ranging from domiciliary to palliative care, with roles in community settings, hospitals, and care homes.


Starting as a carer in a care home, Charlene progressed to the role of senior before taking a break to focus on her first child. After a year, she returned to the workforce, initially in hospitals on elderly wards and later transitioning to the midwifery side within both hospital and community settings. Her career continued with a focus on palliative care in the community. Following the birth of her second child, Charlene chose home care to be more available for her children. Charlene joined Old Norse as a unit manager and gradually progressed to the position of Care Manager. Her diverse experience reflects her commitment to the care sector and her resilience in overcoming personal challenges.
