Mum went into Pine Martin Grange for a month to recover after a term in hospital. The staff were wonderful and really, really helpful. We experienced such a lovely caring environment. I would happily recommend Pine Martin Grange.

My mother spent a couple of weeks at Pine Martin Grange, recuperating after a fall at home. It was a great relief to my brother and me to see her so well cared for. All the staff were extremely kind and cheerful, and the home has a lovely atmosphere. Our experience has been very positive - many thanks
to all the staff!

My Grandmother moved into Pine Martin Grange in June 2021, initially for a few weeks but it soon became a permanent arrangement.
Within days of her arriving we could see an improvement in her physical and mental health.
The care and attention nan receives is second to none, the way in which love and
care are demonstrated daily is excellent.
The stress, pressure and worry of nan living by herself were instantly lifted and she engaged with the team and other residents immediately.

I cannot recommend the home highly enough.

Thank you to everyone at Pine Martin Grange

From the outset, the staff at Pine Martin Grange Care Home have gone out of their way to make my relative and myself feel so welcome and at home. My relative has settled into life extremely well at Pine Martin Grange and enjoys the company of other residents and all the activities on offer. She often
states how "wonderful the staff are to her always referring to her by name and can't praise them enough". I find this incredibly reassuring. Visits together are much enjoyed in the comfort of her lovely room and staff often pop in to perhaps offer a cup of tea or a friendly chat and to ensure all is well. Pine Martin Grange has definitely been the right choice in providing my relative with a happy, safe and caring home in which she can enjoy her life.

My mother recently became a permanent resident at Pine Martin Grange following a couple of short respite stays, and we could not be more delighted with the care she has received. She is relaxed and happy and is enjoying the wonderful food and facilities and the many opportunities to socialise. She has
been relieved of all the stresses of living on her own and in many ways has been given a new lease of life. The transition could not have been easier and was a choice she willingly made after previously enjoying what she described as 'holidays' in Pine Martin. Despite current covid restrictions, we are able to visit regularly and the staff have been wonderful, ensuring the safety of the residents while, at the same time, making visitors feel warmly welcomed. We could not recommend it more highly.

I wanted to write a review to say how very impressed we all are with Pine Martin Grange. We loved it when we first walked in with the welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff who all immediately made us at home. The home itself is spotlessly clean and well managed. The resident's rooms are lovely and
spacious with the outside space available which is ideal. My mother who wasn't a big eater has not stopped complimenting the food which is great to hear. She's very happy which means everything to us as a family. Well done everyone at Pine Martin grange.

Please see my Relatives Testimonial on the Pine Martin Grange Facebook page dated 26th May 2021, or on Youtube, this gives details of why my parents were admitted to Pine Martin Grange for emergency respite from their home in Margate, during Covid and lockdown. Sadly both my parents recently passed
away in Pine Martin Grange, but received outstanding care in the 13 and 14 months of their stay. I cannot fault any aspect of the care they received, Pine Martin Grange even hosted a funeral tea in the Heritage Hall following their joint funeral for the family.

Reply from Janine May, Home Director at Pine Martin Grange Care Home

Thank you so much, Karen, it has been a privilege to care for your parents and support you during the past year. We are very proud of our home and the care we deliver and hugely appreciate you taking the time to confirm this in a review.

Because of covid-19 restrictions, I was isolated in my room for two weeks with the only relief being when I was eventually allowed to sit out in the sun and fresh air. Without a phone or radio, the first four days were unbearable. Once freedom was restored, life improved immensely. Contact with other
residents, activities both indoors and outdoors (i.e. gardening) and communal dining made life more purposeful. Unfortunately, there was only one male companion and although many of the activities were stimulating, some were clearly for residents with dementia.

Reply from Janine May, Home Director at Pine Martin Grange Care Home

Thank you for taking the time to review your short stay. We do appreciate that the Government Guidelines regarding the 14-days in your room were frustrating for everyone, our priority was to keep everyone safe during these difficult times.

We offer a variety of activities and we are sorry that you didn’t find anything suitable, should you return for another stay, then we can discuss what you would enjoy being involved in. We do have phones, radios and televisions available, so please do let us know if there is anything we can do to help make any stay more comfortable and enjoyable.

We looking forward to welcoming you back to our home in the future.

The staff here go out of their way to make the residents happy and fit in (especially in the trying times). They do not just work there but care about the work they do and the service they provide to residents and visiting family. I can see that my mother is happy, kept as healthy as possible and contented.
What more could be asked of them.

After several respite holidays at the home, my father moved into the home permanently last February. I selected the home for my father, not only for the standard of care but the ambience and design of the home. Unlike other residential care homes, Pine Martin is open plan and welcoming, and the decoration
is vibrant and modern. Residents rooms in other homes tend to resemble cells, however, the rooms and facilities at Pine Martin are more akin to a very nice hotel. This has been an incredibly challenging year, and my visits to my father have been infrequent due to lockdown and the distance I live from the home, however, I have absolute faith and trust that my father is getting the best care and support from all the staff at the home. As my father's dementia has progressed and as his memory of both me and his family fades, I appreciate he is now fully dependent on the staff for his day to day needs, and I would like to thank them all for their patience, empathy and expertise.

Pine Martin Grange is a marvellous home. My mother has been there for nearly two years. She has dementia and had no choice but to be admitted when my father suddenly died. It was the most traumatic phase of her life but the kindness and compassion shown to her by all the staff and many residents has
helped her through this difficult time. In her first year, we could visit regularly and I could see how patient and caring the staff were with all the residents. Not always an easy job, but everyone worked hard and did their best for the residents. The impact of covid has been terrible. We desperately miss the physical contact and I was terrified she would plunge into depression. However, the care of all the staff has been incredible; they have worked tirelessly to keep the residents safe and well and emotionally and mentally supported. No home is perfect but I can thoroughly recommend Pine Martin Grange.

My Mother has been at Pine Martin for over a year and always speaks highly of the friendly staff and wonderful food, especially the daily cakes! She particularly loves having her hair and nails done regularly. The Care Home has a sunny disposition with good sized rooms and spacious lounge areas. Looking
forward to visiting again when possible. Feeling happier now the residents have started to be vaccinated. The pandemic has been handled extremely well within their doors.

Moving my 90-year-old Mum to a care home was the last thing I wanted but her move to Pine Martin turned out to be the best thing for her. She was reluctant at first but she soon settled in and made friends - not with the other residents but with the carers. Every time I saw her, she told me how well
looked after she was and how lovely the carers were to her. She didn't use any of the facilities available, like the bar or gym, but it was so worth it for me to know how well cared for she was. Leaving her after a visit was never easy but was made really okay knowing she had such amazing care. Thanks to everyone at Pine Martin for caring for my Mum so well - it was great for her and made it so much easier for me not having to worry that she was always looked after. I'm sure the carers probably get paid very little but they are all lovely genuine people - pay them more.

My husband has regular respite care at Pine Martin Grange and has just returned home after an eight-day stay. He has been very well looked after and has had a happy time. The care being taken to protect the residents from Covid-19 is excellent, but then so is the normal day to day care. Due to the coronavirus
outbreak, I shall have to postpone any more respite care but hopefully not for too long.

My father spent the last two and a half weeks of his life at Pine Martin Grange Care Home. The end of life care given to him was excellent. Every staff member was kind, caring and courteous towards my father and the whole of our family in a very sad and difficult time for everyone. My father received
the very best care and dignified end which he deserved. I highly recommend this care home.

Pine Martin is an up-market, purpose-built residential home with excellent facilities. The staff. Both carers and office, are polite and helpful. Sadly there are not enough of them!
This last remark means bell ringing from bedrooms and ages in someone to attend. Also, crockery etc is left in the bedroom
for too long.

Current Review Score: 8.6 (8.635)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.6 (8.635) out of 10 for Pine Martin Grange Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.566 for Pine Martin Grange Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (66 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (4 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 83 Ratings = 4.566

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.069 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Pine Martin Grange Care Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 64 registered maximum number of service users is 12.8. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 12.8 = 0.469

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I have worked in healthcare for the last 10 years, initially starting at a GP practice as a part-time receptionist when my children were very small. Prior to this, I had a career in events management and sales. The practice trained me in HCA work and phlebotomy, and I progressed to holding blood clinics and assisting with minor operations. When I decided to return to work full time as my children got older, I gravitated toward residential care – I had hugely enjoyed working with my elderly patients in my phlebotomy clinic and wanted to continue in a role where I had this contact. I worked for a provider initially as a Home Services Advisor, progressing to a regional role. I then made the transition into Care Home Management 4 years ago and haven’t looked back. I have managed both nursing and residential homes in Dorset, most recently commissioning a brand new service. I am delighted to join the Dormy Care team and be part of a team that puts the daily experience and ongoing quality of life of our ladies and gentlemen at the heart of all it does. I have a BSc (Hons) in Management and an NVQ Level 5 in Operations Management. Outside of work I am a Mum of 2 boys, a keen swimmer and a yoga practitioner.
