Provence House is a 72 bed care home, offering a welcoming, friendly home for its residents and visitors.

It is situated in Lavender Fields Care Village, which boasts a fully working pub, bistro, village store, post office function, hairdressers, nail salon, and a gym and wellness centre, complete with changing facilities. There is also a large cinema / multi-function room, capable of splitting in half with wall dividers, allowing the space to be used for two different things at once.

Residents receive the care and support they need, including dementia care and respite care. There is also an early-onset dementia unit, dedicated to caring for those living with dementia at an earlier age.

Residents also have the chance to take part in the life of the home, with lots of different activities organised to suit residents interests. There are two minibuses on site, which take residents in the care home (and close care bungalows) to and from trips, and also are available to bring and return staff who are in need of doing so. Routine and pre-arranged trips into Pocklington for errands and appointments can also be arranged.

Healthy, delicious meals are prepared on site to suit individual residents' special dietary requirements.

There are sumptuous, secure garden areas in the two internal courtyard spaces, with many of the bedrooms enjoying patio doors that back onto these areas. Some have more secluded, private and enlarged patio areas, too.

My father received loving care at Provence House - Lavender Fields, nothing was too much trouble. The facilities are superb akin to a first class hotel.

What a breath of fresh air, at last a home designed specifically around the needs of residents but still feeling like a home. Attention has been given to people living with dementia, from good signage to bold colours demarcating various areas of the home, doorways look like doorways, not holes in the
wall, natural light floods the home. The hub contains a functioning pub and bistro with restaurant level food that residents can eat anytime of day and relatives and friends can come in and order as though they were out for lunch. The carers are fantastic. Taking time to get to know residents, first names all round and each resident gets to move at their own pace and not some pre-determined timetable in the home. I write this as a relative who has moved his father-in-law from a home that although rated as good did not manage individual needs, but I am also writing this as a frailty clinician who has worked with hundreds of care homes and facilities, this is the best of them!

My mum was admitted to Provence House for emergency respite. She settled in quickly and decided she would stay. The environment is safe, well managed and beautifully clean. All staff have been just wonderful and taken the time to get to know us. Visiting is a nice treat - coffee, food, drinks available
on site. Mum loves the social side!
I recommend without reservation.

My dad has settled into the care home since he arrived 3 months ago and seems happy there. The place itself is immaculate with lots of facilities both indoor and outdoor with its own post office, pub, shop and more! The staff seem friendly and helpful and are easy to communicate with, they also offer
assistance when I can't get there if things need to be done or relayed to my dad in my absence. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. Thank you.

This is an outstanding facility. The welcome is warm and genuine and you immediately feel part of the family. They took the time to understand my husband's complex needs and I have total faith that the staff deliver an exemplary level of care. The surroundings are more like an hotel than a care home
which is refreshing and the central hub with its pub, gym, shop and cafe the ideal place for visitors to meet with their loved ones. Every single member of staff knows us by name and helps make our difficult journey just a little more bearable. I must single out the activity coordinator, her can-do attitude is truly inspiring. Thank you to every single member of the team.

My sister was one of the first to move into Oaks. Moving someone with dementia is never easy, add in a learning disability (Down syndrome) and it becomes even more difficult. The team worked really hard pre-admission to get to know my sister, meeting her on a number of occasions and spending time talking
to us about her background, her needs and our wishes. The last 2 years have been very difficult for us as the care being provided did not meet her needs or our aspirations but we knew that Lavender Fields was the right place for her and we have been absolutely delighted with the way they've worked with her since she arrived there. She's had some quite serious health issues since arrival and nothing has caused the team any issues - they've worked so hard to keep her happy and they've also worked with us to make sure we are fully appraised of developments. It is so good to see her well cared for, and happy. Can't recommend the place highly enough.

My wife has been a resident at Provence House since it opened in early April. She had spent the previous year in a more traditional care home and has settled into her new environment very well. She enjoys her beautiful room with an outlook on the fast-growing gardens. The room has every piece of equipment
needed for comfort and safety. The wing for older residents has plenty of space for dining, therapeutic activities and socialising, with cups of tea and TV entertainment. Visitors are welcomed by the friendly and dedicated staff.

This is a newly opened care facility and my husband stayed there for 1 week of respite care. Everything about this home is excellent and I have booked my husband in for a second week in July with a view to him becoming a full-time resident in due course. Because the home is new there are only a few
residents at the moment which means it's a bit quiet but as more people arrive it will be much livelier I'm sure.

The level of care is outstanding. The staff always have time to talk about how my relative is settling in. Attention to detail is always paid, in record keeping and handover information. The environment is safe, clean, warm and calm. It is a very comfortable room with lovely furniture and an en-suite
bathroom. The outside surroundings are peaceful and pleasant with courtyard gardens. It is good to know that my relative is safe and very well looked after. All her interests are carefully considered and the carers are helping her to adapt to a very different environment. It has a five-star rating from me. Communication is excellent.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.468)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.468) out of 10 for Provence House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.943 for Provence House is calculated as follows: ( (100 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 106 Ratings = 4.943

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.525 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Provence House is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 72 registered maximum number of service users is 14.4. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 14.4 = 0.625

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Chris

Chris Mitchell

Job Title: Chairman

As Chairman of the company, Chris graduated in 2015 with a degree (not bad for a 56-year-old at the time!) in Dementia Studies from Bradford University, the leading light in research and training into the physical and psychological effects of the debilitating and progressive condition.

To be candid, he did not of course do this degree to improve his CV, but because he saw it as his duty and responsibility to understand issues facing many of his residents, their loved ones and his staff every single day.

With more than 20 years of experience in the care sector as a commercial mortgage broker, the time came in 2005 to move across into owning and operating care homes himself. The rest is history!

Anthony

Anthony Mitchell

Job Title: Managing Director

Anthony is a very safe pair of hands for the role of Managing Director at Lavender Fields. He has gained enormous experience in all aspects of care to augment his previous career in Healthcare Information Technology. He gained a university degree in Business Computing, before taking up positions at two of the leading technology companies, EMIS, followed by Accenture, both of whom specialise in healthcare technology. With several years of industry experience under his belt, he decided to join the family business in 2006. In his position as IT Director, he was able to bring the very latest technology to both the care side of the business and of course the accounting side. However, wishing to gain extensive knowledge of all sides of the business, he embarked on a journey of numerous care courses, including delivery of care relating to dementia, including Dementia Care Mapping with his fellow Directors a few years ago.

Anthony is enormously busy at the care village as we move closer towards the care home opening day early in early 2024, and recently commented, “To finally see this long-held vision coming to fruition really is a dream come true. To be at the helm of our family company, putting into practice the vision my father had a decade ago makes me prouder than words could possibly say.”

Leanne

Leanne Hatch

Job Title: Care Manager

Leanne Hatch has been with us for over fifteen years, starting as a care assistant, before moving to senior carer, then to head of shift, assistant manager, and then eventually manager of one of our care homes. Care is very closely monitored these days by numerous regulatory bodies, as of course, it should be. In the last few years, however, a new British Standard (BS8606) has been created by an independent regulator of great importance within the sector. At the time of writing, they have performed over 2,000 inspections under that standard, at care homes up and down the country. Out of all these inspections, very few certificates have ever been awarded. Not only was Leanne’s former home the first to receive the award, but it was also the first to retain it at their next inspection and the one after that!

More than this though, I am confident that anyone who comes into contact with her – however regularly, and in whatever capacity – will be left with that warm glow of knowing that she will always ensure that people here are looked after. I trust her completely and have awarded her the prize role of running Lavender Fields care operations of what is personally my flagship location. I cannot speak more highly than this. Her standards are impeccable, and she has already made great strides in overseeing the close care we’ve offered for the last twelve months. I am supremely confident that Leanne is the best choice to take us forward in relation to all the care we offer here and am equally confident that everybody else will feel the same way.

Christopher

Christopher Lane

Job Title: Commercial DIrector

Chris’ titles would stretch right across the page, were we to list everything he ‘Excels’ in! A chartered accountant by profession, working in both accountancy practices and then later in industry, unlike any other accountant we have ever known, he busies himself on all aspects of care delivery. He is the guy responsible for overseeing the entire financial operations of the company, which allows us to make quick financial decisions on all aspects of the business. However, he spends much of his time in dialogue with the managers, supporting them on all aspects of daily care, ensuring correct staffing levels, equipment and environment are catered for at all times.

Not an easy task. Lavender Fields has given him another thing to pour all over to make sure we get it right! He says, “I cannot believe that this was all conceived nearly a decade ago and now here we are! It really is the culmination of all we have learnt that is great about the sector, all within one community!”

Andrew

Andrew Shepherd

Job Title: H&S / HR Director

Andrew gained a law degree and worked extensively for the Crown Prosecution Service in West Yorkshire prior to joining us. We approached him about a change of career path and I think it is true to say that neither side has regretted it. His deep examination of the legal aspects of running care homes in an ever-complex world, where health and safety issues, the Mental Capacity Act and numerous other critical issues are at the fore, have proved vital in delivering the correct decisions for us. He combines all of this with running our Human Resources team, overseeing the joining and leaving side of the company which is never an easy path to walk down … and of course, he relishes this new challenge. He commented, “I cannot believe we are here at last! I remember Chris telling me about his ideas when we first talked and although it was a planning ‘long shot’ due to the issues surrounding such an amazing location, he and indeed we, got there in the end! Massively exciting!”

Emma

Emma Dixon

Job Title: Finance Director

Emma is the Finance Director of our wider care home interests in the North of England and now we are delighted to announce that the Lavender Fields Care Village site also falls within her remit. She joined us as a fully qualified Chartered Accountant back in 2006 and has been with us throughout our journey in care to the present day. It was a great decision we made back then! Her commitment to the cause, perennially putting in very long hours to meet accounting deadlines set upon us by the powers that be and our various banking teams, is not an easy task, but she rises to the task with alacrity and good humour! Clearly, numbers were always her first love!

Emma heads up an extensive accounting team at our HQ but regularly makes trips around the homes in order to fully understand the human side behind the numbers, something she sees as a vital part of her work. She has also nurtured a close-knit team at HQ that work equally hard for her and are ambitious in their own right, thus ensuring total commitment from all members of our accounting division, vital to the smooth running of every organisation. Emma says: “We started acquiring care homes in late 2005 and so to have joined in early 2006 puts me pretty much there at the start of this journey.

Much is said about the family angle at Lavender Fields and I can say that this extends way beyond there. We are a very close-knit ownership team within Lavender and the wider care home group and we all believe that this holistic approach to care has served us well. The care of residents is THE biggest thing in our working lives and my role is to ensure a smooth financing function that enables Directors to make the right decisions in a timely manner, thus ensuring that the right funds get into the right care hands at the right time. I am so proud of all we have achieved together over the years and Lavender Fields has to be the most exciting chapter yet!”
