Richmond Aston-on-Trent care home is nestled in the heart of the retirement village, with a range of state-of-the-art facilities not usually found in a care home.

Facilities and services include a Wellness Spa with a heated accessible swimming pool, hydrotherapy pool, sauna, steam room, spa treatment rooms, hair and nail salon as well as a restaurant, café-bar, library, activities room, various lounges and terrace areas. The village is surrounded by spacious landscaped gardens which are wheelchair accessible and a sensory garden, specially designed for those living with dementia.

The 61-bed care home provides nursing and residential dementia care in a beautifully present environment. All rooms are tastefully decorated by a team of specialist interior designers and feature an electric profiling bed, en-suite shower room, a range of furniture, TV & telephone points and Wi-Fi access. Many enjoy views of the surrounding gardens and games lawn.

Residents are supported to live a healthy and happy life in the very best environment with a dedicated and highly skilled care team. The care team are supported by the Richmond Aston-on-Trent hospitality team, who provide nutritious meals, while the activities team provide a range of social and recreational activities carefully designed to meet everyone's needs.

Respite breaks are available for two weeks or more. If you are a carer looking for a rest yourself but don’t want to be too far away from your loved one. It is possible to book these stays in advance. Convalescence care is available. They also offer independent living apartments and assisted living apartments.

My mother has been living at Richmond Village for 5 1/2 years, initially with my father on Dovedale until he died, then in an assisted living apartment where she did need the help of the domicilliary care team, and since last June back on Dovedale when she was becoming more muddled and less confident.
Throughout my mother's stay there she has received incredible kindness and support from all staff who had dealings with her from managers to face to face staff. She enjoyed joining in with some of the activities provided, having her hair done and she attended and liked most of the entertainment. Sometimes things went awry but if that happened staff would do their utmost to put things right immediately and my mother was content again.
Thank you for the exemplary care given to my mother particularly in the last two weeks of her life when that care and support was so kindly extended to myself and our family. What was of great benefit was the continuity of the staff.

My husband as lived at Aston on Trent Richmond village for 2.5 years now.
He took a long time to settle due to his dementia diagnosis and unfamiliarity of a new place. However the staff did an amazing job of helping him settle and make him feel at home. My husband stayed on the care ward for the first
4 months as he had suffered a stroke. Then he rented an apartment within the village, we purchased an apartment some 18 months ago. My husband's carers go into his apartment daily and to say it gives me piece of mind is an understatement.
I feel Richmond as been a great success for my husband and our family and as allowed me to have respite when needed. He comes home to me for a few days each week and on our return I always feel that he's coming home to his second home where he as some great staff take care of him. I come over to Richmond village every week and I have always felt welcomed and again the staff have always been very understanding and help should I have any concerns.

My mother initially went for a two-week respite stay as she had been struggling at home due to her vascular dementia progressing. Mum quickly settled as the care staff were so supportive and really took the time to understand her needs. Mum really came out of her shell joining in activities and enjoying
the company of others. We as a family really feel like we've got our mum back. It's a whole team approach to meeting Mum's needs that has enabled her to make the decision to stay permanently. For us as a family, this is a wonderful outcome that mum herself has made the decision to stay. Richmond with its varied facilities offers people a chance to live a full life whatever their limitations. We would like to thank all staff for their wonderful support & care given to Mum and us.
We know Mum's dementia journey is a safer, more fulfilled one with Richmond's team to support her.

In the last week of my Mum's life, she received exceptional care.
Also, when my Mum arrived a combination of good care, having interesting things to do, and having ten sessions with one of the fitness instructors, gave her a new lease of life. This effectively gave my Mum an extra 18 months of quality
life, which I'm grateful for.
Throughout, she received excellent care but the extras helped to make my Mum's stay special. Firstly, the activities team runs a wide range of activities. This is different from other care homes we looked at, where the entertainment was mainly provided by the carers.
On-site, Richmond has a hairdresser, cafe, and swimming pool (among other things) each of these added something to my Mum's life. She loved having her hair done, joining family in the cafe and she particularly enjoyed seeing 2 of her great-grandchildren in the pool. These extra facilities enabled her to enjoy fun things with the family, which was very important to her.

My Dad and Step-mum lived independently in an apartment within the Care Home Village, sadly my Step-mum passed away in April. She had terminal cancer and spent the last month of her life in the Nursing Home where she was cared for with the utmost care and compassion. My Dad visited every day and was
so impressed with the care his Wife received. Sadly my Dad suffered a stroke in July while visiting his friend in the Care Home Village. The Domiciliary team was quick to recognise the signs of a stroke and summoned Emergency Services quickly. My Father spent over 2 months in hospital - during that time I had such strong support from the Village Manager, Care Home Manager, and other members of Staff. Clothes were laundered and taken to Dad in Hospital, and we were constantly helped and reassured by the Care Staff. Dad returned to the Village in mid-September. He now resides on Leadale, and the Family who have visited remark on how well he looks, the amazing food, and the very caring Staff.

I spent three weeks in Leadale following major surgery. I was cared for by dedicated staff who were caring, kind and considerate. They all work extremely hard and are positive and encouraging at all times be it day or night. The room was pleasant with a nice open view and very comfortable. The food
was varied and plentiful.

My mum was a very independent 87-year-old old, who unfortunately was diagnosed with advanced brain cancer and very quickly it became very obvious that she needed 24/7 assistance. The management at Richmond responded promptly to my enquiry, my mum and I met them within days and they informed us the next
day that a room had become available and she moved in days later. The nursing staff were fantastic and worked wonders with my mum. The more her brain cancer took hold the more difficult mum became but still, the staff treated her with kindness and dignity. My mum's brain cancer progression was rapid and she passed away with my brother and the fantastic nurses by her side, they were amazing.
I want to thank them all for their kindness and professionalism towards my mum's care especially in her last few weeks.

We can't fault the care our mother continues to receive. Whether weekday, weekend or night the empathy of the staff (be they the domestic team, the carers, hospitality, the nursing team or management) is outstanding. The team manage to create a real sense of community/family within the care home.

My father has been taken into the Dovedale unit for respite care. What I object to is how this happened. The hospital wouldn't release him as he was too confused to live independently, but staff from Richmond visited him in the hospital and got him to sign an agreement to be admitted to the Dovedale
at £1,500 a week. How is that legal?

Very accommodating, we have been able to secure respite at Richmond Villages, Aston-on-Trent for my mother-in-law, who has dementia, on 2 separate occasions. We can not praise them enough for the professional care they provided for my mother-in-law. Staff are happy, friendly, patient and dedicated.
Milldale is a bright, warm and clean environment. Rooms are fully furnished with ensuite shower room. Food is varied and good quality.
Making the decision to place a loved one in a care home is hard but knowing when the time comes, that she will be safe and well cared for, we will not be looking anywhere else but Richmond Villages.

Having had experience with Richmond Villages Aston on Trent for the past five years, I cannot rate the facility highly enough.
To put it simply, I have slept easily every night since my parents first moved there, knowing they are in safe, capable and caring hands. The standard of care throughout the
village, the commitment of all the staff and their high levels of compassion and professionalism are exemplary.
I have experienced both the Assisted Living option - ideal for relatives who need some care and support but still value their independence; and more recently, the Milldale dementia care home, where the staff do a fabulous job and are so caring. My father settled in there immediately after what had been a traumatic short stay in hospital, and it is a tribute to the staff how quickly he recovered and how happy he now is.
Everyone at Richmond - staff, residents, relatives and friends - are part of an extended family.

When you have to hand over the care of a loved one to a nursing home and the staff employed there you have to hope and trust that they will be treated with kindness, compassion and respect and receive the best possible care day and night. Every time I left my mother I felt confident that this would
happen and it helped to ease the sadness of the end of care life. I cannot praise the staff enough for everything they did for my mother and the support they gave us as a family.

My father moved into Dovedale in December 2021 and I cannot be more grateful to all of the team in how they care for my dad. Although at times difficult for him due to the language barrier but the team have always tried their best to make him feel comfortable and looked after. The Village is welcoming
- from staff to the atmosphere, and my father's living accommodation is always clean, bright, well equipped and suited to his needs. When I have asked for additional support from the team, this has been met with care, consideration for all, and nothing has been too much trouble.

My mum went to Richmond for end of life care.
It was hard to find a care home to take her in, staff that arranged this for me went over and above board to make sure this happened as fast as possible.
The rooms are excellent with views of the country side that is very calming for dementia patients.
The
carers are friendly, caring, patient and kind.
The last few weeks of her life was spent with people around her that cared.

My wife was the first resident in Milldale nursing care facility.
The staff were attentive and caring.
They developed a mutual loving relationship with residents.
Over the years, especially since Covid, the high number of permanent staff changes has affected the staff/resident dynamic. I do not see
the same levels of intimacy as before.
I do expect that with the current recruitment of permanent staff things will be back to normal.
When visiting I am always welcomed by the staff.

I live and work overseas and so it's particularly important to me to know that my mother is being well looked after. I have found the Village Manager to be accessible, responsive and helpful and her team professional, kind and friendly. We chose this care home because we wanted the best for our mother
and we have not been disappointed.

I feel comfortable in saying that under the current Management my hopes and expectations have been fully met during the past several years. This is despite the struggles of maintaining staffing levels and client safety during the horrors of the Pandemic which has made life difficult for care staff and
thier vulnerable charges.


My friend (who was among the first residents at The Village) has died, but I know she was content and comfortable, and I know the Staff (on the whole) were kind, and supportive. I also know that the Care Team welcomed constructive discussion about the ongoing care of the Residents. I wish everyone continued success.

I have worked at Richmond for nearly 7 years, I joined Richmond as a domiciliary care assistant and then moved to a senior domiciliary care assistant before taking on the domiciliary care manager role nearly 3 years ago. Before joining Richmond I worked as a domiciliary carer in the local community for 7 years.
I enjoy working at Richmond as you get to build strong relationships with the people you look after and you get to them before needing care as you see them around the village. This really helps as you ae able to notice when people start to decline and are able to support them to make a person centred care plan around their needs and wishes.
I manage a team of carers that provide care to people that live in independent and assisted living apartments. The care calls are booked in advance at their time preference and for how long they wish the care call to be. We can support people with personal care, dressing, medication administrating, cleaning, support to activities and to the restaurant. We are also able to offer companionship calls, shopping calls and assistance to doctors and hospital appointments etc
Before I worked in adult care I worked in child care where I started as a nursery nurse and worked my way up to be a manager of a 120 placed nursery.
I have always enjoyed caring for people and helping them get the best out of their lives.

With over 27 years of experience as a chef, I have had the privilege of working in diverse catering environments, ranging from café-style dining to à la carte cuisine. My journey in the culinary world began in the hotel and restaurant sector, where I honed my skills for many years. A decade ago, I ventured into the care sector and discovered a new passion. I started as a part-time chef in a care home, where I developed a keen interest in the science of nutrition and the importance of providing high-quality meals tailored to individual dietary needs. Collaborating closely with speech and language therapists, as well as dietitians from the NHS, I became well-versed in this critical aspect of care. Over the years, I worked my way up to the position of Development Chef for a major care company. I am now excited to embark on this new journey with Richmond Villages.
