My step brother has been a resident for 2 years . I was a bit worried at first about him going into a home , but royal park have been amazing with him . He goes out often with Activities coordinators, he's clean , he's always well fed , his room is always clean and tidy and he's so happy . All the
carers are like his family. He's made a lot of friends . The communication is great too. Always letting me no what's happening and if he needs anything etc. Love getting pictures of things he's been doing too. I cannot fault the home or any of the staff x thankyou for everything guys . Much appreciated x

Still ongoing issues at this care home. This care home is absolutely terrible. Please never use this for any of your loved ones. An ongoing battle every single day my child still lying in the bed soaking wet.
Staff lie against you even when you try your hardest to be civil, restrictions on calls they
say you can visit any time yet now doors are locked many a time, having to pass there all hours a night, gates always still open. The manager emailing you all hours after work. If you report them to the government safeguarding they turn on you more. Was told I can't ask questions about my son. Please, from my heart, do not leave your loved ones here. If I had the pages to say all I really would.

My wife was sent to Royal Park after being discharged from the hospital after suffering a severe stroke in July 2024. I cannot praise the staff enough they treated her with the utmost respect and dignity and they were always happy to share a joke with her. Physios and therapists were excellent in the
treatment they gave her and always willing to engage with them even though she sometimes refused to cooperate with them. She enjoyed all the activities especially karaoke singing along in her own way to an English male singer/songwriter's songs. I must mention my wife's birthday, after receiving a phone call on the morning of her birthday for an invite to lunch with her I was met with a private side room decorated with banners and balloons and we enjoyed a great meal together. I will never forget the staff and wish them all the very best in the future.

I had an operation on my back in May 2024. After 6 weeks I was sent to Royal Park for Physiotherapy. Suffering from OCD as well so I was so happy the room was very clean and nice. The staff was so helpful, and kind and had a good laugh as I think they were just being kind laughing at my dad's jokes.
My stay here was nice considering my ordeal with my condition was very tough to deal with mentally and physically staff helped in every aspect. BBQs in summer, karaoke, days out to the shopping centre, and fitness classes were great fun. I am now back home missing everyone. Physiotherapy was exceptional, I was happy with my care, enjoyed the events, they fed me well at lunch.

My brother spent a few months at this home having been told he couldn’t return to his previous home. He had a grade 4 surface wound and was in hospital due to sepsis.
When he arrived they made my aunt lay all his belongings out to tell him what he could have in his room! A few pictures!
They blocked
him calling the home and threatened to throw his belongings in a skip if not collected by a certain date. My brother is still in hospital awaiting a new care home. They wouldn’t allow my aunty into the home and bagged all his belongings and brought them out on trolleys.
My brother is a human being, though a difficult one! Manager was not warming at all!

Reply from Gaynor Dingley-Smith, Home Manager at Royal Park

This gentleman arrived, followed by a huge van containing the entire belongings from his flat, including furniture. We explained that as a nursing home we do not have the room to store but we took as much as we could, including at least 10 bags of clothes and shoes, a bed, 2 chests of drawers, a sofa, mirrors, ornaments, CDs, to name a few. He only had 1 bedroom in the home and we simply could not fit everything in. Following a hospital admission, and the bed closing, we requested the items to be removed as we do not have any storage. It took 3 months before the belongings were collected, and we did not refuse entry, we kindly took them outside to the van as there was so much to carry.

My dad was at Royal Park for around 4 months following a severe stroke that took his left side. When he arrived he couldn't get out of bed and do anything for himself. Following 4 months of intense physio and care from the staff, he managed to walk out un aided. He is now back home adjusting to a new
way of life we didn't think would be possible. Cannot thank the staff at Royal Park enough for the help and support they gave my dad.

Reply from Gaynor Dingley-Smith, Home Manager at Royal Park

It was a pleasure looking after him, the staff thought a great deal of him and he worked hard to get his mobility back along with the physio team.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to everyone at the Royal Park for the kindness, compassion and support received in the end-of-life care for a beloved husband, father and grandfather.
Everyone we met gave excellent care and were very caring to us all and it was a great comfort.

It is a great reassurance to know we were able to offer comfort to him and his family in his final days. We were all touched by the graciousness of you all towards all of us at Royal Park.

Have recently just been discharged from Royal Park after being there for 5 months, I cannot thank all the staff and physios that helped me enough from the time I got there until I left. I went in with an autoimmune disease that had left me unable to use my arms and had stopped me from walking but with
the help from the physios, I walked out there unaided when I was discharged last week. Would definitely give Royal Park 5 stars and recommend them to anyone. Thank you Royal Park for all your patience and help.

My partner suffered a stroke leaving her unable to speak or use her right side.
With the skill and care of all the staff at Royal Park she is making slow but positive progress.
The staff at Royal Park have obvious affection and care for the residents and show it often. They are always welcoming and
obliging and clearly make the best interests of the residents their priority.

Serious concerns re patient care. Staff are obstructive with numerous “policies” put in place for “staff and patient safety”, and staff are unable to use common sense or compassion to work outside these. The home policy is that bedpans arent used, immobile but continent patients are told to soil themselves
in “super absorbent pads”. Pad checks/changes are reportedly 2 hourly, this does not happen. Staff opinion re a dry/wet pad overrides the patients, occasions where left in soaking clothes. “Protected meal times” include not doing personal care, left sitting in their own excrement whilst being told to eat their lunch, I would consider this neglect.
Completely undignified, degrading and upsetting for patients. Unclear why the hospital can use bedpans and her new care home can get her on the toilet on day one despite her left-sided paralysis post-stroke, yet, you as a rehab centre cannot. I look forward to a response and what policy/excuse you will hide behind. Avoid at all costs.

Reply from Allison Pountney, Office Manager at Royal Park

The policies we as a nursing home have to comply with may seem obstructive but we have a duty of care to our staff/residents, as such, policies are written in line with CQC regs. Our Senior Physio assessed this resident and concluded she was unable to bear her own weight enough to safely sit on a toilet. Many homes “overlook” these risks and use illegal lifting/moving techniques, we will not put our staff/residents at risk. Bedpans are provided for those who can use them, not for incontinent patients, and even more so for someone with no sitting balance. We don’t hide behind policies, we comply with them.
This lady was not left in soaking clothes, on numerous occasions, the family buzzed stating she was wet/soiled, when checked the pad was dry/unsoiled, we have documented evidence of this. Mealtimes are protected to enable residents to enjoy their meals without disturbance.
We have 22 residents to care for, and some of them have complex needs requiring more attention.

I have very serious concerns regarding what goes on and the lack of care my poor dad is receiving. If by the end of the day they have not contacted me as requested you returned my calls, I will be going to the newspapers and central news to tell my story and share the photos and also central news. I
visit my dad every day. It is only because my mum passed away from cancer 2 days ago that I have had a day off. Never again will I not check on my dad as I was doing. The quicker he is out of there the better.

Reply from Allison Pountney, Office Manager at Royal Park

This gentleman was placed here inappropriately as we were not made aware of his behaviours. These issues had already been highlighted to relevant teams, including the family, prior to this review being written. This gentleman requires 1-1 care to meet his needs and behaviours, and this was requested and declined by the funders. Furthermore, funding was totally withdrawn as it was concluded that he does not meet the needs of the home. We are in the process of working with various multi-disciplinary teams in order to find a more appropriate placement for him.

My aunt moved into Royal Park in March 2020. She soon settled in and is content in her forever home. She has complex specialist needs that the management and carers understand and respond to and I am very happy with the care and attention that they provide for her. All at Royal Park are friendly and
helpful when approached especially the front of house and the manager of the home who always take any queries and concerns seriously and respond quickly. During the pandemic, Royal Park did everything they could to limit the impact on all people both residents, staff and visitors which is a testimony to how they care for all the people at the home. Royal Park is always clean, tidy and organised within its day to daycare, even when they are having building work done, the staff are always around and attentive. Any appointments needed outside of the home are always communicated in advance, well-organised and carers provided if needed. My aunt is happy at Royal Park that says it all.

Kind and hard-working staff. The manager, Admin, and Receptionist make you feel very welcome. The home is spotless. Maintenance is also great and will take care of any issues you have concerning your room. The home Is also on the ball with getting contractors out if any issues arise and if further works
are required.

When my husband was first admitted to Royal Park from hospital quite some time ago, this was a new experience for both of us. I especially was concerned how he might settle in. I should not have worried at all as everything was better than both of us could have possibly imagined. The management and
staff were so welcoming and as time as gone by we look upon them as part of our family. On the occasions that my husband is not well he is always treated with great care and dignity of which he is so appreciative. He may not be able to join in all the activities but is usually included somehow. The staff help him to Skype me on his pad everyday, that is a great comfort to both of us. I thank everyone there for their care and respect they give my husband and the peace of mind they give to me and our family.

Royal Park has been a life-changing experience for my father. When he arrived there 12-months ago, he could not walk and was not talking or eating. Within 4-months, I saw a miracle that my father was again, something I did not think I would see again. His appearance and appetite were back, and he was
positively engaging with staff and other service users. The staff respected my fathers religious beliefs and took him to the temple every week once he was able to do so. 12-months on, and Father is back home. I cannot thank the staff and management at Royal Park enough for all the care and support that my father and I have received. Excellent provision.

On the occasions, I have needed to contact Royal Park the staff were always very professional and able to answer my queries. I have only recently been able to make visits to Royal Park because of Covid but can now say that we were made to feel very welcome.
Our son has been very well cared for and
has received excellent treatment.

Current Review Score: 8.5 (8.543)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.5 (8.543) out of 10 for Royal Park is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 3.8 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 3.843 for Royal Park is calculated as follows: ( (50 Excellents x 5) + (26 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (6 Poors x 2) + (17 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 102 Ratings = 3.843

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Royal Park is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 22 registered maximum number of service users is 4.4, which has been reached with 7 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
