Sandhills Court is a is a beautiful purpose-built home, designed to provide the highest standards in attractive surroundings. Staff have created a lovely atmosphere where residents and colleagues alike have formed touching friendships.

Here, they welcome those in need of residential care, including people living with dementia in need of residential support. The dedicated team is on hand 24-hours a day providing support for residents' individual needs.

The home offers both long-term and respite care. It could be a week to experience living here, a month while recovering from an operation or a more long-term move. Short stays can be booked up to three months in advance. Day care and palliative care are also available.

Sandhills Court has 77 rooms with en-suite bedrooms, four of which can accommodate couples. All fully furnished to a high standard. There are a beauty salon, a well-being salon and a café, as well as modern dining rooms, spacious lounges and a cinema room. It is expertly designed to encourage activity and social interaction amongst residents in a warm, reassuring environment.

Enjoying food is an important part of life. The chefs create well-crafted menus made with the freshest ingredients. Soon after a resident arrives at the home, staff discuss their personal preferences and dietary needs with them.

From tea dances and lunch clubs to pamper days and movie nights, there’s a varied social calendar at the home. Residents enjoy coming together to take part in activities and try new things.

I appreciate Covid has been a difficult time and caused many problems for residents, staff and family. On my first visit after restrictions were lifted, it looked like Mum’s room hadn’t been cleaned for a year! I asked the carers on duty to speak to the cleaners but 2 weeks later nothing had changed.
She had 3 dressing gowns hung on the back of the bathroom door all heavily stained with old excrement. The day before I moved her into another care home (last week) she fell and fractured her wrist. I know this can happen anywhere but my son was shocked to see her pushing her walker, with her painful wrist, despite me calling ahead to make sure she was ready in her wheelchair in order to be taken to A&E. There have been, and still are some real gems working there but few and far between and then they usually move on. Pre-Covid, I would visit regularly, dust and tidy her room, take a lot of her clothes home with me to wash.

My mother-in-law was placed here by social services due to her husband being in hospital. It is very difficult for her as she wants to be at home. I got a call from the home telling me she had arrived and asked me to get some belongings for her. I rang back was waiting for over an hour for someone to
take my phone call I know care staff are busy, but as a worried family member it is bad, and this is really my only grumble. The lady, who finally took my call was friendly and helpful. When I arrived at the care home to deliver items for my mother-in-law, a gentlemen carer was just finishing his shift; he said, I would hold the door, but I’m too tired and walked off. The care assistant who answered the door was very blunt and standoffish and said, she’s upstairs and took bags from me then just walked off. Not at all compassionate! I just hope for the rest of my mother in laws time there, I get better communication, and they give her the best care they can.

Mum (89) resident for the past year.
Contracted Covid in care home May 20.
I visited mum once a week, outside a window in all weathers. Grandsons (adult) not allowed window visits. Own FaceTime used (difficult at times, due to dementia).
Sandhills had Covid safe visiting room since Nov 20. Not allowed
to use it due to continuous Covid outbreaks. Concerns re outbreaks reported to CQC. Mum confined to a room, 14 days x 4. Detrimental effect to mum's mental and physical health. Minimal empathy from management to providing sheltered safe visiting. Haircut not offered for a full year (due to outbreaks). Mum's self-esteem low. Chiropodist x 2 in a year. Activities were minimal as only one coordinator for three floors. Basic care satisfactory, but felt the need to ‘chase’ everything. Chef provided a good special diet. Management communication was poor in my opinion.

Covid-19 has seen a very difficult time for residents and staff alike. I have always found the staff have done their very best during these times. Adhering to the Government regulations has caused problems for staff and my mother. Lack of time to speak with her has lead her to be confused about the
situation. Being deaf and registered blind; the modern communication has not suited her. No one to shop, help with her hair and nails etc. has caused her to be slightly depressed. She loves the staff and her bubble baths but needs her confidence building to socialise.

I had an elderly long time family friend who was a resident in the home during the covid pandemic. The staff were wonderful; although I could not be inside the home to see my friend, the staff made it possible for me to stand outside on the roadside where her bedroom faced from the first floor. This
enabled her to still see me and other family members. To make it possible for me to have a conversation with her, they also arranged for me to speak with her on her mobile, which she had in the home with her. This made my friend very happy and let her know how much she was loved. I cannot fault this home or it's the staff at all. Overall, this home is a beautiful place, and the staff really gave 100% care to my friend.

My sister is a resident at Sandhills; she has been in their care since the beginning of December 2020. The care staff and management are extremely friendly and helpful. Nothing is to much trouble. The seniors keep me informed of all aspects of my sisters care. I would recommend this home to anyone!

My mother-in-law was a resident at Sandhill, initially on emergency respite for two weeks, but after just over a week, it was decided by the family that she stays permanently. The home manager and staff have taken excellent care of her since November, encouraging her to eat, mix and interact with other
residents. She felt very safe and often said she was well looked after.

Our mother was admitted during the most difficult of circumstances this year. The professionalism, care, compassion and kindness of Sandhills Court could not have been better. The entire team's conduct, both administrative and care-related, was exceptional. They could not have done more, and our mother
mentioned this repeatedly during her end of life care. They confidently accommodated video calls, which meant the family was able to see and speak to our mother every day to the end of her life, and with the greatest of precautionary care they accommodated 'end of life' visits by her grandsons. In a horrendous situation for our mother and our family, the only piece of luck our family had was knowing about the highest standard of care at Sandhills Court, and there being a place for her. We will be forever thankful for its outstanding help and support during the most testing of times.

The standard of care was excellent.
The staff are very friendly and professional.
The home was always clean and smelt lovely.
The furnishing first class.

My mother was a resident for 10-months at Sandhills and passed away in March 2020. Mum's view was that the staff were efficient, friendly and approachable, and this was always confirmed during my frequent visits. Although always busy on tasks, nothing was too much effort for all the staff Mum encountered;
the handyman, cleaners, dining staff etc. As a visitor, I particularly found the reception staff to be excellent in all aspects.

When my sister agreed that she needed care, we came to Sandhills first. We were impressed and did not visit and other care homes. The room chosen has a pleasant outlook, and as the first resident, my sister was immediately impressed and moved in within two weeks. The standard of care is ver high as
is the house keeping. I recommend Sandhills Court as the place for care and comfort.

The staff were all very helpful and caring. I did not require a great deal of help as my stay was because I live alone, and had had my hip replacement operation. Some of the carers knowing my needs arrived without me ringing the bell. I enjoyed all the meals, especially the puddings, which I rarely
have at home!

Unfortunately, the review is difficult to provide fully due to the virus. I can honestly say that the virus has accelerated residents with dementia. As I have not seen my relative to hold their hand or give them a hug, it is upsetting for their age to understand.

I have been working in the care sector since 2003, starting my career as a kitchen assistant, where I soon realised my passion for the care industry. I later became a care assistant and progressed to the role of home manager in 2017. Throughout my career, I have managed different services and commissioned new homes – I have loved every challenge and experience.


I love working in the care sector as seeing the difference I can make every day brings me so much warmth. My goal is to make a difference to residents' lives and help them to live life to the fullest, by creating a home environment where everyone can thrive.


In my spare time I love to be with my family; taking on new adventures and enjoying quality time together.

I started working at Bupa as a care assistant, moving to senior care assistant, and then became Unit Manager before recently taking on the role of Deputy Manager. My mum was a care assistant when I was younger. She would take me to work with her on a weekend and I would sit and spend time with the residents and get involved with their activities.


I love working in care services and it's wonderful to know that you are making a difference in people’s lives.


I love helping people and I get a sense of satisfaction from seeing how my care makes a difference in their lives. Seeing residents achieve personal goals reminds me why I love doing what I’m doing. It's also about the staff; making sure they are happy and knowing they are able to come and talk to me for advice or just for someone to sit and listen to them.


I’m Married with 3 children and live local to Sandhill Court. In my spare time, I enjoy spending it with my family, bowling, escape rooms and going to the cinema. We enjoy going on holiday abroad once a year and will also have a long weekend away in the UK.

I have worked for Bupa for over 9 years. What I most enjoy about working in the care sector is the ability to make a real difference in people's lives every day. There's something incredibly fulfilling about knowing that my support, whether it's providing physical care or simply offering a listening ear, can bring comfort and joy to those I care for.


I love building genuine relationships with the people I work with, learning about their unique stories, and being there for them during both the good times and the challenging moments. The sense of purpose and connection I feel in this role is something I truly cherish.


I currently live at home with my parents and support in caring for my elderly grandmother full time alongside my mum. I spend my personal time socialising with friends, going to the gym, going boxing, attending social groups, cycling, reading and playing games on the ps5.

I decided to get a job in care when I first turned 18 years old I used to do odd jobs for my elderly next-door neighbour with tasks he struggled with. Before working here at Sandhills Court, I worked with young adults who had learning disabilities in a support living home.


I enjoy caring for people how they want to be cared for and taking time to earn their trust. Supporting residents physically and emotionally, building bonds and being able to make them laugh and smile is what I enjoy most; giving them and their families that well-needed respite.


In my spare time, I enjoy being in the garden with a beer or two. I don’t have any pets, however I would love to get a sausage dog. I’ve already decided when I do, he’ll be called Bert. I enjoy in my free time watching films, playing on my Play Station, or simply spending time with family and friends. I’m very close to my Mum and we spend a lot of time together.

My role as Chef Manager means I am responsible for the day-to-day management of the catering team, ensuring nutritious and well-balanced meals for our residents.


I have worked here at Sandhills Court since the day it opened. Before this, I started out as a trainee chef with the NHS based at Scunthorpe General Hospital, spending 27 years with the trust and becoming the trust catering manager in 2009 covering Scunthorpe Grimsby and Goole hospitals, and was recognised for my role in 2010 by becoming the NHS catering manager of the year.


I have always worked within the care sector, and what I enjoy most about my role is customer interaction - it’s a pleasure to sit with the residents to discuss food or to have a general chat with residents and relatives.


I live locally to Sandhills and in my spare time, I enjoy playing football, and golf and keeping fit at the gym.


I am Married with an elder son who has just graduated from university. I also go to London quite often to watch football - one of the residents did their teacher training around white heart lane - so I often take picture when I go to show how the area has changed!

I enjoy working with people and having a personal approach to the work that I do as well as having an opportunity to think creatively.


Before my role here at Sandhills Court, I worked in the charity sector for the last 10 years, mainly in churches and Christian organisations, so spending time with and organising activities for residents is something I really enjoy.


I have been married for 14 years to my husband and we have a three-year-old daughter. My husband is a Pastor of a local church and we live local to the home. I have many interests and hobbies which include crocheting, sewing, cake decorating, art and singing (which I do regularly as part of being involved in church). I am also currently doing an art history course through the open university as a personal development and special interest.

I have worked for Bupa for 7 years and have been in the role of Financial Administrator for 3 years.


I enjoy working in care services as no two days are the same, and it's lovely hearing stories from residents and their families about their lives.


I spend most of my spare time with my family and looking after my grandsons.

I have worked for Bupa for 4 years and have been in the role of receptionist for 2 and a half years. I have always had customer-facing roles - I was cabin crew for KLM Airlines for 10 years before I joined Bupa.


I enjoy working in care services because of the interaction with residents, families and colleagues.


I live locally to Sandhills Court - I have one daughter and two grandsons and I love to spend my spare time with them.

Nikki Depledge

Job Title: Head Housekeeper

Joined: 2018

I’ve been in this role since May 2019, originally starting as a housekeeper in January 2018. I’ve worked in the care home sector for many years, my first job was as a cook in a residential home. Following this, I moved to Germany where I worked for many years as a housekeeper for the CO of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards.


When I moved back to the UK, I decided I wanted to go back to working in the care home sector, so I jumped at the chance to apply for this role at Sandhill's - I love the Interaction with the residents & families, and being able to contribute to people’s well being and daily life.


I’ve been married 31 years, have two grown-up children, a one-year-old granddaughter and two boxer dogs called Harvey & Winnie whom I love walking every day. In my spare time, I enjoy socialising with family & friends, looking after my granddaughter and going on holidays in the sunshine.

Job Title: Maintenace Operator

I have been a maintenance operator for 6 years and hold 20 years of property maintenance experience.


I enjoy working in care services as it's the little things, especially in maintenance, such as hanging a family photo on the wall, changing a light bulb, and sorting a resident's curtains out. The everyday jobs we take for granted, just being able to be the person that can do those things for the residents is what I enjoy the most.


I live in Barton which is 25 minutes away from the home, with my partner, Laura and my 2 teenage sons, Ethan and Tobias. Laura has 2 daughters Evie and Maisie who are 8 and 5, we have them 4 days out of the week, so our house is a healthy split of giggles, barbie dolls and grumpy teens! I spend most of my spare time at the moment renovating the house and I'm also an avid woodworker, so can usually be found in the shed making bowls and candle holders on my lathe.
