Our mother went into Terrys Cross House because she could no longer be cared for in her home. The home was very welcoming from the start and she received excellent care and was able to live her last six months with dignity. The team of established staff who cared for her were very personable and went
out of their way to show kindness and compassion for what was an extremely traumatic change for our mother, having always been fiercely independent. Terrys Cross has a feeling of peace and tranquility and feels a bit like a country house hotel rather than a care home with its views overlooking the South Downs. The facilities were always very clean and well-managed and they were always very flexible in their approach to my problems. We will always be very grateful for everything they did for our mother and cannot thank them enough for going out of their way to make our mother feel at home and pander to her needs.

Terry's Cross is a small care home offering very personalised care to its residents. My mother's experience there was excellent. She settled in quickly and her enthusiasm for living at Terry's Cross was as unexpected as it was welcome. I put this down to the calm and genuinely caring support that she
was provided. Her accommodation was exceptionally spacious and she mainly used her own furniture making it feel home from home. Terry's Cross is about as unconstitutional as you could get. The home is owned by Chichester Diocese and was originally for retired clergy. Some of that culture lives on. It is not the place for those looking for lots of activities or flashy facilities, but for dignified, true care it's excellent.

This Care Home has a very good standard of care for the residents. It has well-maintained gardens and facilities and a very pleasant atmosphere. The latter is down to the staff and dedicated manager who has worked to keep the home safe during the pandemic. Our friend, who is a resident, has always expressed
appreciation to the manager who ensured that her special diet was catered for. This was at times difficult during shortages during Covid. Covid rules were adhered to and everyone, both residents and relatives were and are kept well informed at each stage. We cannot thank the management enough for facilitating our visits in the garden when indoor visits were unwise or against regulation.
Residents have a very good dining room (I have lunched there a few times) and a very pleasant and large lounge/common room where functions are held. All in all, this is a very good Care Home, in pleasant and peaceful surroundings. Improvements are constantly being made.

You have a favourite Uncle who has been so good to you all your life but can no longer take care of himself - where does he go? For those lucky enough to be accepted by Terry’s Cross - no place could be better. The manager and her team run what can only be described as the nearest place to home - he
does not feel like a resident, he is part of a family. The team go well above their duties and while I have no knowledge of the nursing or caring profession, these people always ensure he is comfortable, well looked after and have time to talk and cater for all his whims. Anyone who places a dear relative here - rest assured you will have no doubts that they are in the very best hands and will be so looked after. And by the way, the rooms, grounds and most importantly food - are excellent.

My father-in-law was originally on a short respite stay at Terry's Cross after he lost his wife; he loved it so much that he decided to stay there full time. The staff were always friendly, and loving and went far beyond what was expected of them and his every need was catered for. When you leave a
loved one, you want to feel they are happy and secure there - we never had any worries whatsoever and always felt 100% happy. It's a lovely house in beautiful surroundings, his room bright, homely and comfortable. He would always comment on the wonderful meals he received, he would often say "it's like living in a hotel here." We were always made to feel welcome when we visited and were invited to the events at the home. We know Covid made life difficult for us all, however, they always followed the rules with sensitivity and care. We cannot speak highly enough about the care received and the happiness he felt living there in his four and half years there, he sadly passed away in February 2022, thank you Terry's Cross.

My father was a resident from October 2017 until he passed away sadly in February 2022. He came for a week’s holiday and so fell in love with it there that he never went back home! Dad always felt loved and cared for in a manner that he felt like one of the family. He would always say how happy and
relaxed he felt and that he was in a home not an institution. Although we had to contend with the rigours of Covid lockdown, life was made as easy as possible within the regulations. I can only praise all those at Terrys Cross House for giving my Dad such a wonderful last 5 years of his life. Dad would always say that securing him a place as one of the residents was one of the best things I ever did for him. This is the perfect place for as near as possible ordinary day to day life - not one for being regimented!

My friend has been a resident of Terrys Cross House for about six years now and is happily settled there. Her individual, varied and complex needs are met with understanding and good support, and her religious views and needs are respected and met. The Home is welcoming and friendly to visitors. A
good, local volunteer driver scheme operates to help some residents attend medical appointments if needed.

Terrys Cross House is a small business which allows the staff to be focused on the needs of the individual. My mother feels well looked after and has enjoyed the kindness and fun of the staff. The grounds and view over the South Down National Park are stunning. Word of warning though........the ducks
(which are plentiful) are sometimes found on the back doorstep unless they are fed on time!

Current Review Score: 8.3 (8.334)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.3 (8.334) out of 10 for Terrys Cross House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.917 for Terrys Cross House is calculated as follows: ( (11 Excellents x 5) + (1 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 12 Ratings = 4.917

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.417 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Terrys Cross House is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 12 registered maximum number of service users is 2.4. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 2.4 = 0.417

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
