Situated on the outskirts of historic Cambridge, The Cambridgeshire Care Home is an attractive modern, purpose-built care home, providing residential, nursing, dementia and respite care for up to 72 elderly people. Close to local transport and amenities, they are just four miles away from Cambridge.

The Cambridgeshire Care Home is situated within attractive landscaped gardens, built with a large glass frontage which provides fantastic views of the gardens. As well as a comprehensive activities programme, offering a variety of meaningful activities, residents at The Cambridgeshire Care Home have a cinema which shows Residents favourite films, a nail salon, hairdressing salon, visiting Chiropody service, an Exercise Therapist and private dining facilities along with a bistro near the reception area offering coffees, teas, pastries and fresh fruit, lunch and afternoon tea (must be booked in advance).

The Cambridgeshire Care Home also offers residents a choice of lounges where they can chat, relax and take in the beautiful landscaped gardens, as well as enjoy an aperitif before dining whilst choosing from the fine dining menus.

I paid my first visit to my sister on New Year's Day. I had thought a longed-for visit might be cancelled but the home implemented full health security, so the visit went ahead, even though she had Covid (symptom-free). Very pleasant decor at the home, communal areas and my sister's room. Not institutional.
Most appetising home-cooked food, special compliment to the chef on the sauce - not out of a bottle/packet. The staff took the trouble to approach me to discuss my sister.

My mother, now aged 101, moved into the Cambridgeshire Care Home from her bungalow in January 2021 when she was requiring the support of two live-in carers. Within a few days, her pain was well controlled and she was soon walking short distances with a frame. During lockdown, the staff made every effort
to keep us in touch and even arranged a video call. The home has been meticulous about ensuring that the regulations have been applied, while at the same time making visits as pleasant as possible for both of us. The nurses, carers and helpers always greet me with a friendly 'hello' even if we have never met. The reception staff are always very helpful and I have been very impressed at how even senior management fills in and multitask if someone is absent, or busy doing something else. My mother is quite fussy about her food but is very complimentary about the food, the chef has even stewed up some fruit I took Mother, from our garden.

My wife now has regular respite weeks in the home, an appreciated change for her and a rest for me. Although initially apprehensive, she now happily accepts her week away. The staff are so friendly and welcoming, the rooms bright and comfortable, and as she admits the food is better! For the family,
it is a relief to know that she is so well looked after in such a caring and cheerful way.

My wife spent the last 5 months of her life in the home, suffering from dementia and unable to communicate effectively. After she settled in, she took part as far as she was able in activities, but seemed to spend a lot of time sleeping, or just wandering about. I got to know the staff, both on the
wing and in the administration, as did our daughters, and found them wonderful - thoughtful, sensible, knowledgeable about the patients and above all caring. The home itself is new, with excellent facilities, including spacious communal spaces. There are pleasant gardens where residents can sit, and I took her out there a couple of times. The residents' rooms are a good size, with large windows. Coffee or tea are brought to the rooms in the morning and afternoon, and I believe the meals are also of good quality. She died at the home, and we particularly appreciated that I and our daughters were able to sit with her body in her room for more than two hours, exchanging memories of her.

I am very happy in this care home. It seems like a family to me. The standard of living is so like a luxury hotel - five-star at least! The staff are kind and considerate and nothing is too much trouble. There is lots to do - exercises and activities - or residents can sit quietly in the library or
garden. It is so good not to be paying for extras and to wander around without cash or keys.

My 93-year-old aunt has just had 2 weeks of respite care at the home. The staff were always very kind and caring and the facilities are excellent. There are lovely gardens to be enjoyed. There is always a choice of food which is always very good. The rooms are spacious and well set out. There is a good
selection of activities if you want to join in. I was very impressed with all aspects of the home.

During the covid pandemic, The Cambridgeshire Care Home has made a tremendous effort in letting us see our mother in the safest conditions. It was not always easy to communicate with face masks and behind perspex but the staff was great at helping my mother. During the spring of 2021, some rules were
relaxed a little and my mother was able to hold her great-granddaughter just three weeks before she died. In the days leading up to my mother's death, visits to her room were permitted. Everything was dealt with well for which we are very grateful.

We have been so impressed by the care and attention the home (or as we like to say 5 star hotel) has provided for our Mum. Having been a very fit and self-sufficient person, an accident which resulted in her breaking both her wrists (she is 90) we were in uncharted waters and needed respite care for
her urgently. Having visited the home and been shown around by a wonderful care manager, we were able to get a room for Mum. Since then, as things progressed, it became clear that full-time care was the best option for Mum. Since then (the progression has not been easy for Mum) she has started to embrace all the home has to offer. The staff are wonderful and clearly motivated to provide the best environment for people under their care. We, as a family cannot thank you enough for your understanding, thoughtfulness and clear love for what you all do. Thank you so very much.

My father has been a resident of this care home for some time now. All the staff know him really well and understand and tend to any of his needs. The staff contact us with any concerns and certainly during recent times, due to the pandemic, have made sure he has received the right care from the multidisciplinary
team involved in his complex needs. In addition to this, they have kept all residents safe and well, in regards to the pandemic. I can’t fault any of the care that my father receives and I am reassured that they treat him with the care and dignity that he deserves.

Despite being a regular respite resident over the last few years, I was surprised that the care home could no longer meet my mother's worsening vascular dementia needs. Whilst I accept that the home is not suitable for my mother in the long term, some basic care was not provided for during the last
respite including leaving her in unwashed clothes, dressing her in clothes that did not belong to her and leaving dirt under her fingernails. On departure, I was handed some urine-soaked leggings in a plastic bag and a suitcase with only half of her named clothes - the rest were returned over a week later. Very disappointing.

In the years that my father lived in The Cambridgeshire care home, he was unable to do anything for himself, and suffered from memory loss after a stroke. He was always cared for with the utmost respect and affection, he had the same carers for many years, and especially the last few years, they were
family to him. He was always contented and felt safe. I can't fault them!

Many thanks to the staff who were always kind and courteous. I was a resident for three weeks of respite care. The daily choice menu was my major problem. The chef understood my dietary allergies well, but I was confused by some words in the daily menu eg, goujons contain egg, one of my allergies; I
had to ask junior staff. After my first week of compulsory isolation, I was not given a map, nor shown how to access the garden with its water wheel. After finding this myself, I later enjoyed taking exercise there.

Our mother came to The Cambridgeshire Care Home because her previous care home was closing. She was already at a point when she was approaching the end of her life, and we very much appreciated the way in which management and staff at The Cambridgeshire facilitated her move in such difficult circumstances.
The care she received was excellent and we all felt great relief that she was so gently supported and made to feel safe in her new home. As a family, we were always treated with great kindness and sensitivity too and allowed to visit her despite the restrictions. We are all grateful to The Cambridgeshire and think highly of it. Mum did mid-February 2021.

My mum has recently passed away in The Cambridgeshire Care Home, and the care and support she had in the last few weeks were exemplary. She was so well looked after from a physical, emotional and psychological point of view. The staff on Wimpole were like family to her and made her end of life as comfortable

Angie Ryan

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2016

I am proud to say I commissioned The Cambridgeshire Care Home in 2016 and was the manager until 2019, having worked at First Care Homes since 2011. I returned in 2022.


I have worked in the social care sector as a registered manager in a home and regional capacity for over 25 years since leaving the NHS where I was a ward sister.


I am a Registered Nurse and have a Degree in Gerontological Nursing, the Registered Managers Award and also Level 5 in management and leadership.


I love this home and want the staff to feel the same, as this then impacts our resident's experience and helps them feel at home right from day one

Job Title: Deputy Home Manager/Clinical Lead

I am an experienced Registered Nurse with over 14 years of experience in both private and public healthcare environments. I have a Bachelor’s in psychology and a Master’s degree in Palliative Care strategies and management.


Following my move to the UK in 2016 I achieved my NVQ level 5 certification. I found my true passion in caring for others, especially elderly Residents and Patients and I am very grateful to have found the perfect environment to practice this at The Cambridgeshire Care Home.

I have been a Professional Head Chef for 35 years, I have owned my own restaurant and private catering company. I started as an apprentice chef at St John's College in Cambridge. I have worked in care since 2016, I am fully qualified to Advance level of C&G's diploma 706/1, 706/2 and 706/3.

Sarah takes all members of staff through compulsory training, induction training and refresher courses at The Cambridgeshire Care Home and at Park View Care Home, Ipswich.


Sarah is an RGN and has worked for a major airline for over 30 years as a cabin crew.

I have a background in administration and customer service having been a buyer, salesperson, account manager, office manager and CEO in a variety of industries from Fire, Domiciliary Eyecare, Medical, Insurance and Charity. I started at The Cambridgeshire Care Home just as the COVID lockdown started.


I enjoy working with new Residents and Families to take them on a seamless journey into their new homes. I am a very caring and passionate person and really enjoy working with older people.

I was born in Ramsey, Huntingdonshire and moved to St Ive's. I am the youngest of 6 children.


When I was younger, I wanted to be in the Police force, I passed the entrance exam, but they weren't recruiting so I went to Tesco, and carried out various roles until I became a Senior Manager, Trouble Shooter and led the Training and Development for five Stores.


I went on to become a bookkeeper and an Office Manager at Premier Electric then to Storage King in Cambridge for seven years and eventually seconded to the Bedford store for five years as Store Manager.


And here I am now at The Cambridgeshire Care Home as the Home Administrator.


I enjoy a number of hobbies, I like squash, am a very good roller skater, skier, horse rider and enjoy riding motorbikes.

I started working for the Civil Service in 1988 and was contracted out to work for The Royal Anglian Regiment in Colchester as the Administrative Assistant.


I thoroughly enjoy interacting with Families and Residents at The Cambridgeshire Care Home.

I am a very creative person, with a background in Customer Service and Administration roles.


I started my journey in a care home setting after receiving my Level 4 in Events Management.


I love my role as Head of Wellbeing as it allows me to remain creative, working within care and being able to chat to Residents and Families. It helps me create new activities based on Residents' hobbies and interests.


I love being at The Cambridgeshire Care Home, this is my family and there's no place I would rather be.

I re-joined CCH in November 2021, after 2 years away.


I have many years of experience in the hospitality industry from Hotels, colleges and running our own pub/restaurant. I have worked both front of house and back of house, which I enjoy as a varied role. However, it is the care environment that I enjoy the most, and the feeling of giving back to our residents.
