The Fleet is a newly refurbished care home, based in Dartmouth in Devon, providing exceptional levels of residential, nursing and palliative care for up to 79 residents.

At The Fleet, they work in partnership with residents and their families to develop an individualised care plan, ensuring everyone receives the right level of care for their needs. They have a highly experienced team who are supported to develop a holistic set of skills and experiences, that actively encourages independence, respect and dignity at all times.

There’s always plenty to do at The Fleet. They have a full-time Activities and Events Co-ordinator who encourages residents to take part in group activities, a cinema room, hairdressing salon, library, Cove Bistro and expansive gardens.

The team is dedicated to helping residents feel at ease, feel relaxed and most importantly, feel at home.

I have been working with the team at the Fleet Care home for two years in support of my mother. I have found the overall experience one of support and collaboration where issues relating to my mother have been dealt with in a professional and empathetic manner. The whole team are easy to approach and
always find a solution in support of my mother who is 91 years of age. The premises are always well presented and clean which is of great importance to my mother and of course to all of the people who visit. Keep going team and well done.

My mother has been safely cared for at Fleet for the last two and a half years. During Covid restrictions, the staff did their absolute best to maintain my contact with her through the use of FaceTime and phone which I appreciated greatly. Since the end of the pandemic, I have been able to visit very
frequently and have always found Fleet very welcoming. Despite her severe dementia and occasional agitation, my mother has been kept safe, calm and cared for. She is still able to enjoy food and cups of tea so it is nice that tea is always on the go and that really nice meals are prepared on the premises. The atmosphere is a happy one and there are many many activities going on all the time for those able to participate. The staff are very friendly and approachable and very affectionate to my mother which has allowed me to feel much less anxious about this difficult stage at the end of her life.

My father was the first resident at The Fleet when it opened in April 2020. He was cared for especially well and the staff always went out of their way to make him feel loved. There were several touching moments in the last 30 months; one of the staff bringing in a toy dog which my father loved, and
someone tickling his feet to bring a smile to his face, but the best goes to the staff that made the effort to go in at midnight on his 86th birthday to wish him a happy birthday, he passed away shortly after. The staff always took great care to make my father look well-presented and involve him in the planned activities. We had plenty of personal discussions around my father's care, so we were kept well informed. The reception staff also went the extra mile and made my mother feel very at home during the care home visits. In summary, the Care Home has a lovely atmosphere, it is extremely well presented and has the most wonderful staff.

We made the decision to move both our parents to The Fleet in September following years of home care for our father with Parkinson's and then our mother's diagnosis of Alzheimer's. It is most definitely the best thing we could have done for both of them and we are absolutely delighted with the care
they are both now receiving. All the staff, without exception, have shown great empathy and care and go out of their way to show every resident kindness and empathy. There is always a buzz around the place, as if everyone is happy to be there - aesthetically it is not at all like a care home, more a boutique hotel, and residents are treated as paying guests and not as unfortunate inmates! Both parents are happy, relaxed, well fed, cared for and entertained. Dad is out of bed every day, having previously been left in his bed 24 hours a day at his previous care home - staff have the desire to care for residents on an individual basis and this is what makes this such a special place. Thank you.

When we arrived, we were greeted by a very welcoming receptionist who offered to make us each a drink to take to the room. We already know the way to my father-in-law's room. The lifts seem to be working properly but we prefer to use the stairs. When we reached Dad's room we found everything clean and
tidy. He always tells us that the staff are kind and attentive. He told us that he enjoyed an excellent lunch.

My uncle moved into The Fleet in September 2022 as he was starting to struggle to live alone with his dementia and short-term memory loss. The whole experience for both him and me has been made so easy by the wonderful staff, who are all kind, considerate and great fun. My uncle has gone from being
alone and sad for much of the time, to joining in all the fun activities The Fleet provides. He especially enjoys the music events as he is a musician himself. The stimulation has helped immensely. Thank you.

My mum arrived at The Fleet in early October after being discharged from The Beech unit. We had concerns after a previous care home experience, which was terrible but we couldn't be more grateful for The Fleet. From the moment Mum arrived, she has felt comfortable, settled and cared for. All the staff
are so kind, accommodating and caring. The staff are upbeat and incredibly friendly, nothing is ever too much trouble. Mum loves the food and finds all the staff so kind and caring. We could not be more comforted to know Mum is here and finally got to see her happy and well and so content. We cannot recommend The Fleet and all the staff more highly. The place is like a hotel experience.

Dad came to The Fleet in October 2021, with severe mobility problems and several health issues, he was unable to look after himself at home. He struggled to settle in and loved to complain about the food. In time he became fond of his carers and respected their knowledge and experience. From a visitor's
point of view, staff at The Fleet were intelligent and accommodating when making decisions about Covid visits, they made it easy for friends and family to visit when we were able. We made use of the Cove bistro at times when we had too many visitors to fit in Dad's room. In February, Dad moved upstairs to the nursing floor where he, and we, were looked after beautifully day and night until he died this May. I am so grateful to all the staff at The Fleet for their kindness and care.

Mum came to The Fleet Care Home initially for a 1 month period of respite nursing care after spending a period of time in hospital, being treated for continuing UTI which was contributing to her Alzheimer's Dementia accelerating. The staff at The Fleet are pretty amazing - everyone - from the reception
and administrative offices to the nursing staff, care assistants, housekeeping and entertainments team show the utmost respect, understanding, kindness and unwavering patience to the residents and patients in their care. It's thanks to the dedicated nursing care at The Fleet, that Mum has retained her dignity and individuality throughout the various stages of her illnesses and considers many of the staff who care for her every day, as 'her friends' and it is very difficult to find the appropriate words to thank you all for the support you have and continue to give Mum and the family. Mum now receives palliative care and is comfortable, warm and content.

My husband has been at the Fleet Care Home since early July 2021. He is there for nursing care and we, as a family, have nothing but praise for the care and attention he is given. The home is a very friendly place and we are always made to feel welcome, when visiting. The nurses and care staff are so
conscious of the needs of their patients, whilst also giving support to relatives. Thank you for making a difficult time easier.

We have visited this care home regularly during the past few months. We have found everyone to be extremely helpful and friendly. The residents are being cared for really well. My husband and I have been treated well and made to feel at home. There is always an offer made of tea or coffee on arrival.
We can't comment on value for money as we don't know the fees.

Despite having many issues and restrictions surrounding Covid, The Fleet Care Home and staff have always tried their very best to accommodate myself and family visiting my grandmother. They have always been incredibly welcoming, friendly and have always gone above and beyond to allow myself access.
The new manager has definitely made noticeable improvements since her arrival and I can only assume things will get better as Covid restrictions/staff shortages improve.

Marc

Marc Chudley

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2024

Marc is the Home Manager at The Fleet Care Home. Working in care for over 15 years, Marc started his career as a carer and worked up to become a qualified nurse and then on to Registered Manager. Marc has been working as a Home Manager for over 6 years and loves what he does.


Marc joined The Fleet in April 2024 and has a passion for truly Person-Centred care and delivering high standards with every service provided within the home. Marc is working hard to develop the Home and is looking forward to sharing the vision and the changes with the residents and their families in the coming months.


Sharon

Sharon Eden

Job Title: Deputy Manager

Joined: 2021

Sharon is our Deputy Manager here at The Fleet Care Home, having been qualified for 27 years and having worked in care for 34 years. Sharon has predominantly worked in elderly care throughout her career but has experience in many other areas within the care and earned a few additional strings to her bow.


Sharon has specialist qualifications in Tissue Viability, Diabetes, and Infection Control.


Sharon enjoys reading and animals outside of work and often brings her 4-month-old puppy, Micah, to work and visit the residents.

Lizzie Callan

Job Title: Administrator

Lizzie has been working at The Fleet since it opened and is passionate about her role within our home. She finds the best part of her job is helping make the residents feel happy in a safe and secure environment. Lizzie loves being a part of the team and is known to spend time with the residents getting to know each one of them.


Outside of work, Lizzie enjoys spending time with her loved ones and motorbiking across Europe.

John started work at the Fleet in 2021 as the Maintenance Manager, he comes with a wealth of experience in this field.


Sarah

Sarah Pinhorne

Job Title: Head of Unit

Sarah Pinhorne is the Head of Unit for our new Dementia Community here at The Fleet. Worked in care for over 31 years and throughout her career as a Healthcare Assistant and Senior Healthcare assistant, before completing her nursing training at Plymouth University and becoming a Registered Mental Health Nurse.


Sarah has had experience working in dementia care, both in EMI and overseeing a Dementia Care Community before. She has a passion for ensuring excellent care is provided at all times and that the support and care that is delivered are person-centred and holistic.


Sarah is incredibly excited to take the helm of this new and tailored service at The Fleet, leading our trained team to make the lives of our Residents with Dementia truly enriching and enjoyable.


Viv

Viv Munslow

Job Title: Head of Unit

Joined: 2024

Viv has been working in care for the past 25 years and has been with The Fleet since it opened. She has worked up from a carer to a Head of Unit and is now Head of Unit for Drake, our residential community. Viv really enjoys supporting our residents, prompting their independence, and making every day special for them.


Compared to all her previous jobs, Viv says this is the best of them all! Viv loves being able to help others and says we are all like a little family here.

Adam Borbas

Job Title: Senior Care Assistant

Joined: 2020

Adam is one of our Senior Care Assistants. Adam works in care because he believes that everybody deserves to live a happy and dignified life in the way they see fit even if they need help to achieve it. “Regarding my work, I am passionate about person-centred care which I believe is the most important segment of our numerous duties. If the passionate section is more about my personal life, I am most passionate about educating people in my own way about the importance of history and human nature through the lens of history.


As a hobby I do like a good long drive, it enables me to think clearly. I also like to lose myself in fantasy or sci-fi worlds while reading or watching movies”.

Holly is one of our wonderful Care Assistants. After completing her degree in counselling, Holly decided that wanted to be more hands-on and has loved getting to know each and every resident here at The Fleet.


Kimberly

Kimberly Heales

Job Title: Activities Coordinator

Joined: 2022

Kimberley is our Activities Coordinator and works within the healthcare industry purely because she loves helping others! She is a passionate member of the team and really focuses on helping our Dementia Care residents by improving these individuals’ well-being!


She is often seen singing and dancing around The Fleet because of her huge love of music. Kimberley put on multiple events and activities for our home and captures these special moments on camera.


Kimberley works closely with the local community and often sets up fundraisers for various local causes!


Pammy

Pammy Anthony

Job Title: Housekeeping Assistant

Joined: 2022

Pammy is one of our Housekeeping Assistants at our home and she is a massive part of making sure our home remains to be a tidy and safe environment. Pammy is known for taking time to speak to our residents and forming relationships with people new to our home.


Nicholas

Nicholas Davies

Job Title: Laundry Assistant

Nick along with Sue runs the Laundry here at The Fleet Care Home in Dartmouth. Nick’s job is to ensure that not only is there plenty of bed and table linen and towels on all of the floors but also that all of the residents have their personal clothes washed and returned to them. It’s an important job and both Nick and Sue feel rather proud of their “part of the ship”, having it run really smoothly. When Nick isn’t collecting and distributing, he likes to try and find the time to stop and chat with our residents.
