I wasn't in respite, I was there to keep my wife company after she came out of hospital. I was very impressed with the friendliness of the staff and also the standard and amount of the food.

Fantastic care from the first time I took Mam for her initial assessment. Very welcoming on Moms arrival for her stay. Mom had one week of respite care whilst I was able to go on holiday with assurance she was in the best hands. Mom really enjoyed her stay, said she was fed tasty food. She also loved
her room; it was like home from home.

The Hawthorns at Aldridge is more like a five-star hotel than a typical care home. We could not imagine anything better for my Dad. Lovely staff who provide great care and the food is excellent too. Above all, they kept my Dad and his friends safe throughout the lockdown.

My mother-in-law went into Hawthornes Aldridge in June 2020. After only a few months she settled in really well. Her room overlooking the gardens is perfect, spacious and has its own en-suite. Even though, due to Covid, entertainment has been limited she has been able to join in activity classes whenever
possible. As her only carer before she went into Hawthornes it meant a lot to me that she was well looked after and safe and I can only say that the staff have more than full-filled my expectations.

The first thing I am impressed with when telephoning the home is the speed with which my calls are normally answered and when it is the person on the other end always seems to have a smile in their voice. My sister continually thanks me for having guided her into the Hawthorns and so often tells me
just how happy she is. From what my sister says the care is second to none, she continues to need medical attention and this is well taken care of by staff who appear eager to help. She enjoys the social activities, something she rarely participated in before moving into the Hawthorns, she was pleased to see a Prayer room of which she makes regular use. Having never been a large eater at home she tells me just how good the food is in both variety and presentation and, I see, she is putting on weight and looking better for it.
Well done Hawthorns and thank you to all who care for my sister.

This care home has the best provision of homely en-suite rooms of any that I have seen. The restaurant service is a godsend although it must be difficult catering for such a range of tastes across the residents. During Covid, the staff have done their utmost to keep residents safe and well and I have
been able to relax knowing this. Visits have been made safely available as soon as possible. The hairdresser has also been able to visit recently. My mother values this very much. A range of activities are provided and my mother attends those she likes. Communal areas are arranged sociably and not ordered in a ring of chairs around the room as I’ve seen in many other places.

Mum has been a resident of the Hawthorns for over 5 years now and is still as happy as the day she moved in. She is well supported and well cared for as her needs have increased over the years. She enjoys the beautifully prepared meals and is very happy with her spacious and well-appointed room which
she now calls home. The staff offer gentle encouragement and look after her with care and consideration preserving her dignity and promoting her well being. They continue to exceed our expectations and give us the reassurance we need when we cannot be with her. During lockdown, they offered many in-house activities, went above and beyond their normal duties to be her 'surrogate' family and ensured all the residents were content and happy. Their Covid protocols kept the home safe and alleviated our concerns. Now we are able to visit again the procedures in place are practical, efficient and safe. I would highly recommend The Hawthorns.

Mom went into Hawthorns following deterioration with her dementia. The building is lovely and the initial few months were good. However, as time went on it was clear her personal hygiene was being overlooked. Mom was hanging soiled clothes back in her wardrobe and draws and toiletries were unused. Before
lockdown our visits became one of recycling clothes and ensuring Mom was clean. Mom was allowed to put on over 2 stone during lockdown causing her BMI to become clinically obese. Her weight was monitored but at no point were any interventions put in place. It only came to light that they had been administering Moms medication incorrectly for a number of months when we moved her to a new home. Since Moms been receiving her correct medication in her new home she’s not required paramedics once and yet her last few weeks at Hawthorns they were frequent visitors to her. Lovey home for retirement with no medical issues.

My mother has been a resident for several years. The care she has received has been excellent. The home offers a very good menu and are always happy to accommodate any dietary requirements. All of the staff, irrespective of their role, are always very visible and approachable. The home have managed
the Covid 19 pandemic extremely well in challenging unprecedented times and have kept me updated of the latest guidance regarding visits very promptly. The home offered outside visits as soon as this was allowed and also facilitated indoor visits whenever possible, albeit behind a screen.

The Hawthorns Aldridge were able to take my mother at short notice after a bit of a crisis when she clearly wasn't managing alone despite considerable support. She had a months respite followed by full admission.
All of the staff have been fantastic and very caring and the increased social interaction
has really helped my mother who makes use of many of the activities such as the exercise classes, quizzes and serving in the little on-site shop. Most of these activities have continued during Covid, which has been a real lifesaver as living 150 miles away, I cannot give as much support as I would like.
Mum has a lovely room and the place feels more like a luxurious hotel than an old peoples' home. My brother and I looked at numerous homes and this is, by far, the best we have seen.
I 'Facetime' my mother every day and quite often during the call, a carer pops in to do something and they are universally cheerful and professional, and usually give me a 'wave'. Just brilliant!

The food is very repetitive - same menu each week. Portions are small. Rooms and main areas are spacious with space to walk around when unable to go outside. Covid restrictions are strictly managed, residents tested monthly and staff weekly. Covid 19 vaccination given in December. Activities limited
due to covid. Overall as a care/respite home 8 out of 10. Brochure requires updating to reflect current situation.

Mum went into The Hawthorns for respite care at that time she was very poorly.
