My husband was brought in for end-of-life care on the 18th of January. The care he is receiving is excellent, nothing is too much trouble. I find the staff very helpful and friendly. My husband has settled in really well. I would definitely recommend The Oaks Care Home, 100%.

My review relates to December, Christmas time:
My mum has had the best Christmas for over twenty years with music, singing and decorations, it was amazing and she thoroughly enjoyed herself. The Christmas dinner was wonderful and the staff were happy and making a lovely atmosphere. Thank you.

My mum is at end of life and has been in The Oaks Care Home in Newtown (Powys) for over twelve months. The care she is receiving is second to none. The staff are amazing and care for your loved ones as if its their own family. They are trustworthy and can't do enough for you. They even look after the
family, constantly checking if we need anything, drinks or food. We are so lucky to have their support. My mum is so happy and content as she can be with the circumstances. The home is always spotless.

I have been using the home for respite for the last 3 months. Staff are always friendly and professional. Housekeeping are spotless and nothing is too much trouble. Family can visit any time they wish. The management team seems well involved and their door is always open even for minor issues. If something
is raised it gets actioned.

Although only for a short period of time I can't fault the care that my mother received. The staff were amazing, always cheerful and kept me completely updated with my mother's changing needs.
Completely changed my view of care homes, more like a 5 Star hotel.

My mother moved into The Oaks, Newtown two days after it opened in January 2020. From the outset she has loved it. Lovely, caring staff who have treated her with respect and patience throughout. They could not have been better. Visitors are always made welcome and kept informed. All members of staff
treated my mother as family, always on hand to offer her a cup of tea and a biscuit (or two) whenever she fancied. She was well and truly spoilt and loved it. Home from home. Thank you, you marvellous people.

My parents have been staying at The Oaks Care Home on a temporary basis for a couple of months now on the Nursing and Dementia floors. As a family we all cannot praise the staff enough - from the carers to the housekeeping staff and catering - everyone has always been exceptionally friendly and always
go out of their way to listen to us and attend to our requests. I hear the staff always call my parents by their name, simple I know - but makes such a difference and reassuring to them and family. We are always provided with updates or any changes in my parent's health or well-being and feel just as welcome as my parents are. The home manager and deputy manager are incredibly organised and proactive and this certainly shows with their team. Thanks to all - as this has been a lifeline for our family during a difficult period.

Our mum has only been in the home for two weeks, after spending eight weeks in hospital. From what we have seen these last two weeks, it's a lovely home, recently built so modern and spacious with great facilities. Her room is large with good quality furniture and fittings and fully en-suite.
The staff
are lovely, very supportive, caring and patient. There is also a lovely welcome for visiting families, which is very important. The food menu looks very good indeed. So far cannot fault the place.
Well done to everyone at The Oaks Care Home.

Mum has been at The Oaks since September 2021 and has been well looked after; she is eating and having all the support that she needs. The staff are great, and the place is lovely and has good entertainment for them, and we like the photos posted on Facebook. I can't fault anything about The Oaks; we

My sister loves the home and has been there since it opened. She has been upset by the turnover of care staff and managers as she gets very fond of them and then they leave, but all in all, she is very happy and very well cared for. She loves that we can now take in dogs and they all love that.

My mum has been a resident almost from the time that it opened in January 2020. My siblings and I are very happy with the way our Mum has been treated. She does suffer from dementia, as a result of having a stroke just before she went into care, and Mum is looked after accordingly. She has always been
involved with many activities that they have planned, although she can't remember, the staff at the home let us know that she has been involved.
During covid when we can't get into visit, Mum's carers have set up FaceTime so that her family can keep up as much contact as possible. This has been invaluable to us to make that connection with her.
Mum has multiple sclerosis and needs two members of staff to use a hoist to get her in and out of bed and her chair. There has never been a problem getting assistance to do this as she has a button to press on her lap.
Mum always has a smile on her face, and we as a family, know that she is in the best possible place for her.

As a family, we will never forget the love and care my grandmother received during her final year of life that she spent at The Oaks. Clean, warm and homely. I was always taken back by the attention all residents would receive, not only by the carers but every member of staff. Cleaners, cooks, caretakers,
receptionists, nurses and management...the list goes on. Always a smiling face, someone to assist, and quick to offer a cup of tea! They are amazing. There’s a real sense of community and family in The Oaks, this was such a comfort to know during what can be a difficult transition.
Having full-time activities co-ordinators is something so important that I was very impressed with. There’s always something going on, catering to every individual's interests and hobbies.
My grandmother made some wonderful friends in The Oaks, not only with residents but some real connections with staff. We could sleep at night knowing she was safe and couldn’t ask for anymore. Thank you all.

My dad loved being there. The treatment he received was first class. He loved the day room, meeting friends, playing games, with the special care of being looked after, he departed being a very happy man. Well done to all staff, when I phoned, they were always very happy to inform me of how my dad was.

My mother moved into The Oaks in January 2020. She was 88 and had dementia. She moved into a room on the residential floor. She was fully able to communicate and join in with those around her. We were able to totally personalize her room, with all of the familiar things from her home. It was beautiful.
The manager and all of the staff are nothing short of amazing. There is an openness and a genuine sense of friendship. Mom often said ‘The people are all lovely, and the food is good. Mom’s usual routine was kept to as much as possible. When lockdown happened, they continued to set her hair and her nails. I knew she was safe and loved. Mom passed away on February 18th. The love and understanding we experienced were incredible. She died in my arms. The care she and I received is something I will never forget. I’m so grateful Mom spent her final year in the care of such wonderful people, who loved her almost as much as we do.

We were extremely happy with the care that our dad received whilst in The Oaks Care Home. The nurses were very kind people who spent time keeping Dad comfortable and always helped him to take part in activities with other residents in the day room, which he thoroughly enjoyed.

My Mum has Multiple Sclerosis and suffered a bad stroke over a year ago. After waiting for 6-months in the hospital, we were delighted for Mum to get into The Oaks Newtown so that she was closer to family. Mum needs a hoist to be moved from bed to chair and relies completely on the care of the staff.
I cannot thank everyone at The Oaks enough for the care and support they have given my Mum, nothing is too much trouble. It's been so difficult during Covid, but they have done everything to protect residents and keep in touch with families. We love our FaceTime calls, they are invaluable! They include Mum in activities as much as they can, and she always has a smile on her face. She has always been girly and really loves having her hair and nails done, and she says the food is delicious, especially the puddings! The staff are very friendly and caring, and I would recommend this care home to anybody that has a loved one. Keep up the good work!

The Oaks is a new care home with excellent standard, spacious interior and individual rooms en-suite and a good size garden terrace. It is clean, tidy, and has a fresh feeling. Great care is taken to keep the surroundings in good order. My husband's care is well taken care of; he is always fully dressed,
clean, shaven and comfortable. The activity team is doing their very best to engage the residents in various entertainments, puzzles, musical performances and whatever can be done to enhance the day. During the lockdown, the staff has been fabulous and supportive to residents and relatives alike and organised Skype talks. I am confident that my husband is in very good hands.

Both my parents moved into The Oaks during its first week of opening in January 2020. The management, staff, activity coordinators and medical team are genuinely caring people and have provided support and care for my parents, which is second to none. Their individual needs and preferences are fully
taken into account, and they have as much independence and support as they require. They are treated with great respect in a most friendly and caring environment. They have the option to do a variety of fun activities, and there are an in-house hair salon and nail bar. The Oaks has followed guidelines and introduced strict policies during the pandemic - the result being residents and staff have remained safe and well during these extremely difficult and challenging times. Not being able to see my parents during lockdowns has been very hard, but knowing they are being kept safe and well is paramount. I congratulate and thank The Oaks for doing an amazing job in these unprecedented times.

With extensive nursing experience, my journey began over 20 years ago as a Carer in a care home in Bristol. I later trained as a Nurse and, after qualifying and gaining a range of experiences, transitioned into community nursing. I worked in Northamptonshire and Powys for 12 years before becoming a specialist Lymphoedema Nurse, a role I held for six years.


After nearly 20 years in the NHS, I was ready for a change. My experience visiting residential homes—both as a Community Nurse and a Specialist Nurse—gave me valuable insight into care home settings, making this career transition a natural fit. Though this is my first management role, I bring a wealth of clinical experience and a passion for learning.


As Clinical Lead at The Oaks, I have the privilege of remaining hands-on with residents while also working behind the scenes to ensure we deliver the highest standard of care. Caring for the elderly has always been close to my heart. At just 14 years old, I volunteered with Age Concern, visiting older people in the community. Working here has reminded me of the profound impact even small gestures can have on those who are no longer as independent as they once were. Seeing the joy and laughter of our residents is the most rewarding part of my role, and I feel truly privileged to play a part in shaping services that provide them with dignity, comfort, and exceptional care.
