The Oaks offers residential care services for people with mental health conditions.

It specialises in helping vulnerable adults, aged between 18 and 65, to rebuild the confidence and life skills they need to lead as independent lives as possible.

The range of conditions cared for varies so residents will be admitted on an individual basis, following an assessment. Typically it might care for people living with

    anxiety
    depression
    bipolar disorder
    alcohol-related dementia
    acquired brain injuries

The home is set within attractive landscaped gardens and includes shared kitchens, lounges, activity rooms and laundry rooms for residents. It also aims to be an active member of the local community life.

In recognition of the level of care The Oaks provides to their residents, the service won Specialist Care Service at the Scottish Care Awards in 2019   https://www.meallmore.co.uk/news/the-oaks-wins-at-scottish-care-awards-2019/

Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

The person I support has had an extremely positive experience within The Oaks Care Home. Having experienced a previous care home placement breaking down and the uncertainty of what lay ahead, the manager and her team gave complete reassurance that her needs could be catered for, and offered flexibility
in allowing her to settle in, on her terms, which was extremely important for her.

The resident has been living at The Oaks now for 14 months. She benefits from positive relationships with the staff, flexibility to pursue her interests and staff ensure she can keep in regular contact with her family, which is important to both them, and her. I have complete confidence in the care being provided by The Oaks, as they have developed strategies for managing risk and promoting consistency of care and positive behaviour, which has been extremely beneficial. The recent Care Inspection reflects the quality of the staffing and service. I would not hesitate in recommending this service.

Current Review Score: 8.6 (8.587)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.6 (8.587) out of 10 for The Oaks Care Facility is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.7 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.882 for The Oaks Care Facility is calculated as follows: ( (30 Excellents x 5) + (4 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 34 Ratings = 4.882

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.705 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Oaks Care Facility is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 33 registered maximum number of service users is 6.6. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 6.6 = 0.455

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Care Home Manager

At The Oaks, we encourage our residents to participate in a wide range of engaging and fun activities as a means of gaining more confidence and improving their quality of life. I am passionate about the recovery process of our patients and want all of our residents to be the very best version of themselves.

I have been a nurse for 14 years now and specialise in mental health care. I have been at The Oaks since 2015 and very much enjoy working with the incredible team here.

Our home is sector-leading in its initiatives. The care we provide helps our residents to rehabilitate and learn the necessary skills to move on to independent living in the community. We also have a resident psychiatrist who works with us at the home to provide residents with the support they need.

Our cinema room and garden offer fantastic opportunities for socialising and relaxation. We also have a skills kitchen where residents learn important domestic skills to help them feel more independent.

I want to ensure residents have fulfilled lives during their time at The Oaks and feel that they are a part of the local community; their well-being is my top priority.
