This one-of-a-kind facility has been purpose built to provide care to its residents and improve their quality of life. The home comprises 20 bedrooms over 2 floors and will cater for people aged 18-65 who have various life limiting conditions including Huntington’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease, long-term mental health issues, acquired brain injuries, and mild learning disabilities.

The home is built around a courtyard garden which all the bedrooms face onto so no matter what room you are in, you can enjoy a view of the garden which contains palm trees amongst other exotic plant life.

Residents living downstairs will have a patio door that opens straight into the garden and upstairs residents will have access to two balconies from both the upstairs lounge and dining area. The garden is wheelchair accessible and contains raised beds making it easier for those who wish to participate in growing and planting. All 20 of the bedrooms have garden views and are en-suite. Each room has a thermostatic radiator, smoke detector, sprinkler system, flat screen TV, phone point, wireless access and a Nurse Call/PIR System.

At Wallacetown Gardens the support staff will work with residents to devise a programme based on the resident’s previous hobbies, present abilities and future hopes. They believe that having a structure is an important aspect of everyday life and the residents will be encouraged to follow a set routine to help them live as independently as possible while maintaining a normal life.

The home also has a minibus which can be used for outings and activities out. Staff are on duty 24 hours a day to assist residents in any way required. They pride themselves on giving residents a home that they are proud to call their own.

Always a pleasure to speak to staff at Wallacetown, I know they care for my aunt very well and keep her occupied which is important for her, she has days out which she enjoys and there always seems to be something on for the residents to do. The communication is also excellent.

Reply from Martin Ure, Manager at Wallacetown Gardens

Thank you for those kind words. We will continue to offer your aunt activities and outings and communicate with you. Look forward to your next visit.

Hi, it's really hard for residents and families in December times or any time for that matter. What I loved about it was they got outings, parties, pantomime and the best bit for me was having my brother home with the family on Christmas Day. The staff are wonderful, always smiling, welcome you, offer
you a hot or cold drink.

Reply from Martin Ure, Manager at Wallacetown Gardens

Thank you for the kind review. I am pleased to hear that you are happy with the care that your brother receives, and especially the outings over the festive period as this can be a time that is especially difficult for residents and families.

Wallacetown Gardens has provided my mum with an excellent level of care. The team there know my mum very well and they're so friendly and helpful and caring, even when dealing with some of her more difficult behaviour. There are lots of activities available which they encourage her to take part in.
I don't live locally (in Surrey) so I've really enjoyed seeing photos of my mum on the new monthly update. The team have also been helping with her growing mobility issues, including trying out different walking aids and arranging physio sessions. My mum often tells me how much she likes the team and how lucky she is to be part of the Wallacetown family.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.247)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.247) out of 10 for Wallacetown Gardens is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.872 for Wallacetown Gardens is calculated as follows: ( (41 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 47 Ratings = 4.872

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.375 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Wallacetown Gardens is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 20 registered maximum number of service users is 4, which has been reached with 4 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Martin

Martin Ure

Job Title: Manager

Martin has been an integral part of the Wallacetown Gardens team since it opened, bringing a wealth of experience and a deep passion for supporting individuals with additional support needs and learning disabilities. With over 12 years in the care sector, Martin’s career has been defined by his commitment to delivering high-quality care and creating a positive, thriving environment for both staff and residents.

Before joining Wallacetown, Martin worked at a low-secure forensic hospital, where he gained invaluable skills that have shaped his approach to care. Starting as an Advanced Senior at Wallacetown, Martin quickly demonstrated his leadership abilities and earned his nursing degree in 2022. In December 2023, he was promoted to Manager, where he now leads with a strong focus on teamwork, personalised support, and the well-being of everyone in the community.

Martin’s approach to leadership is inspired by his background in sport. Although his professional football career was cut short due to injury, his experiences with teams—first with Rangers and later at Queens Park FC—taught him discipline, resilience, and the importance of collaboration. These qualities have played a key role in his success within the care sector, helping him build meaningful relationships with colleagues and residents alike.

Outside of work, Martin is father to three boys. He enjoys coaching his eldest son’s football team, attending live games, and going on well-deserved holidays with his family (loves topping up his tan when he can). A passionate football fan, Martin also enjoys watching matches both on TV and in person and enjoys taking his dog our for walks and bringing her into work for the residents.

With every day presenting new challenges and opportunities, Martin thrives in the dynamic environment of Wallacetown Gardens. His unwavering dedication to improving the lives of young adults and his leadership in the team make him an invaluable asset to the organisation.

Sean

Sean McGill

Job Title: Deputy Manager

Sean became part of the Wallacetown Gardens team in February 2018, bringing over 13 years of healthcare experience across Ayrshire and Arran. His journey in care began at a young age when he helped support a family member with motor neuron disease at home. Witnessing firsthand the impact of quality care, Sean knew he wanted to make a difference in people’s lives and pursued a career in healthcare.

Starting out as a Support Worker, Sean’s dedication to high standards and natural leadership abilities quickly became evident. While working at Wallacetown Gardens, he earned his Level 3 SVQ in Social Care and was promoted to Advanced Senior Carer. Thriving in this more challenging role, he continued to build strong, meaningful relationships with both residents and colleagues, which led to his promotion to Deputy Manager just two years later. In this role, Sean is committed to fostering a positive, supportive environment for both staff and residents, ensuring that Wallacetown Gardens remains a place where individuals feel valued and empowered.

Outside of work, Sean’s caring nature continues; he looks after his gran and tends to his six animals, including two dogs, a cat, a tortoise, a kakariki, and a horse! A true animal lover, he enjoys spending time outdoors, whether it’s taking his dogs for long walks or caring for his horse. When he does find time to unwind, Sean loves spending quality time with his husband, family, and friends.

With a deep passion for care and a strong commitment to the well-being of others, Sean thrives in the dynamic environment of Wallacetown Gardens. His leadership, compassion, and unwavering dedication make him a key part of the team, ensuring that residents receive the highest quality of support every day.
