Dad has been at The Meadows for approximately 2 years. Since he moved in the staff have been really supportive and caring, supporting Dad with his needs. Sometimes going above and beyond. The environment is of a very high standard and the facilities are excellent. Due to his needs Dad has now moved
to a new location, but he'd like to say thank you to everyone at The Meadows for making him feel at home.

Reply from Emma Smith, Deputy Manager at The Meadows

It has been an honour and privilege to be able to support and care for your dad over the past two years. He will be very much missed at The Meadows as was adored by the whole team as you know. We thank you kindly for such a lovely review of The Meadows and this will be shared with all the team as I know how grateful they will be hear this.

Only resident for ten months, own rented flat. First flat of my own after residential care closed. Taking time to acclimatise but so far so good.

Excellent three month placement due to renovations. Thank you all! Staff so welcoming and accommodating. We loved the bright accommodation and well equipped facilities. Thank you for making us so welcome at special activities over the festive period. A very caring and well run facility with service
users needs very much taken into account.

Following my dad passing and the landlord of their home reclaiming it, Mum was left in a hospital bed, the discharge being delayed due to the lack of support from the hospital and the council; we found Mum a placement at The Meadows.
We have never looked back. Mum has come leaps and bounds, gained
weight, improving her personal hygiene and diet.
The carers are amazing, spending time getting to know Mum and spending time chatting and laughing.
We go to the entrainment regularly, which is just such fun and have made some great friends.
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant - that is all I can say.

In June 2019 my mum suffered a brain aneurysm. After months in hospital, Mum was housed at The Meadows, moving there in January 2020. In the two and a bit years since, Mum has received faultless care (including through the pandemic) and has been encouraged and assisted in her recovery. Her hard work
and the support of all at The Meadows meant she was deemed not to need 24-hour care now and has recently moved into her own home once again. This would not have happened without the care, compassion and friendship of everyone at The Meadows. The accommodation there is spacious and modern and Mum was always comfortable and happy there. We cannot recommend The Meadows enough and from my experience, anyone looking for housing with care will be well looked after if their journey takes them here.

Reply from Emma Smith, Manager at The Meadows

Thank you for such a lovely review of the Meadows. It has been an honour and a privilege to support your Mum in her recovery and her aspiration of moving back into the community. Every step of your mum's journey has been a pleasure to be a part of and she will be missed by all in the team. We wish your Mum all the best for the future.

My mum moved in three weeks ago. She has been diagnosed with dementia and we were expecting her to be disorientated and have some confusion for the first month. However, the kindness shown by the staff has been exemplary and she has settled as if she has always been here. Thank you to everyone for making
the transition so seamless.

Reply from Emma Smith, Acting Manager at The Meadows

From all of the team at the Meadows, we would like to thank you for your lovely review. We are so pleased the transition and experience of moving has been seamless, this is wonderful. It is an absolute pleasure and a privilege to welcome Mum and yourself to the Meadows family.

I was most impressed and grateful for the way I was helped, when I needed it. I did not expect the ladies to help as much as they did. I was surprised and did not expect that they would do it. Please - more carers like these.

The patience, understanding and care provided by all staff here are second to none. Mum was very well cared for here by friendly staff who take time to get to know the whole family. The end-of-life care my mum received was incredible. Would thoroughly recommend The Meadows to anyone. Well done to a
fabulous team!

In 2016 The Meadows offered me a home when I was in a very dark place indeed. I owe NorseCare and Saffron Housing a huge debt of gratitude. They gave me a new lease of life, a secure home in which to recover my physical and mental strength - transforming my quality of life. 'Independent living in housing
with care' is still 'a work in progress'. So am I. This is my first experience of 'communal living' and of 'care'. I adjusted slowly to this novel environment, the staff and management helped me to do so. I hosted VIPs when they toured the 'scheme' in 2016/2017. I quoted them extracts from an article about The Meadows which struck chords with my own personal experience here: any fool can rustle up money and put a building up: that's the easy bit: the hard bit is delivering quality care, a complex and nuanced skill. Getting the care right the training right the culture right. In the care profession, there are those who 'get it' and those who don't. Here 'they get it'. They have my back.

My mother was a resident of Bowthorpe Care Village from the time that it opened until her death in February 2022. She had previously been in another care home, and I was concerned that she wouldn't settle in such a large establishment, but she did, and I spent a lot of happy times there with her in
her flat and had meals with her and her friends in the restaurant. She was very well cared for by all the staff and was most happy that some were from Phillidelphia, who she knew very well.

Mum lived here just after it opened. The staff were very nice and pleasant to her, although Mum did prefer the older staff to the younger ones (just an age thing). For the last 23-weeks, Mum was on end of life care, and a 24/7 carer was put in by the hospital. The staff would come to visit Mum on a
daily basis to help the 24/7 carer with personal care etc. We, as a family, couldn't be more happy with the service and care Mum received until her passing.

I visited my mother back in March for the first time. Extremely happy with the assistance she gets from the carers. Mum is in the assisted living area. Lovely place to visit Mum, especially on her balcony! Thank you for caring for my mum.

Arrived in April 2021, very worn out and needing help and a kind word and help which I found quite quickly. They were very kind and I have not looked back - I am very happy. Things have been bad for the staff and carers but they are the same and have looked after us all. I am very happy here, it's
nice to have their help. They do their best to keep our spirits up so I think The Meadows is great.

I had been given four months to live when I moved in here. I got asked when I die, do I want to die here or in hospital - that was six years ago! That is now good I have been looked after here and I hope to live here for six more years.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.762)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.762) out of 10 for The Meadows is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Extra Care Housing is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.762 for The Meadows is calculated as follows: ( (216 Excellents x 5) + (49 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 273 Ratings = 4.762

The 5 points relating to the number of Positive Reviews for The Meadows is based on 23 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as follows: 3 + 0.5 + 0.5 + 0.5 + 0.5 = 5

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Extra Care Housing does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Manager

I started my career in social care at the age of 19 and have worked for NorseCare since 2013.

I began working at The Meadows when the scheme first opened as a Team Leader and since this time, my knowledge has grown and my passion for the scheme has been shown I am now proudly in the post as the Registered Manager.

I love my role and supporting our care staff to be able to provide the best service possible to all living at The Meadows, enabling independence and positive experiences.
