Southlands comprises of 28 purpose-built one and two bedroom luxury apartments. The self-contained apartments allow older people to lead an independent life, run their own home without the worries of maintaining it, and have the reassurance of round-the-clock support and care.

A generous day space provides the perfect communal area for residents who can also mingle over dinner in the elegant dining room or relax in the lounge and conservatories.

Southlands is an exceptional place. Our mum has been here three years, and despite turning 90, has flourished in their care. Compassionate and patient. Our mum is always immaculate, the food is of an amazing standard, and the facilities are wonderful. It's like a five-star hotel with carers. Highly
recommend it.

Living at Southlands apartments has completely changed my mother's quality of life. The care and compassion she receives from all the staff there is wonderful, and she now enjoys life there. I don't think she would be able to move anymore.

My mother moved to Southlands from our family home in Cornwall, for a brief period of respite care, some two years ago.
We were so impressed with the care and facilities that Mum decided she would like to move there permanently. We were delighted to be able to purchase a lovely apartment and have never
looked back.
Southlands manages to keep the desire for personal independence perfectly balanced with the provision of care, group activities and excellent food!
Other facilities deserve a mention too! We have enjoyed a family gathering in the Bowman room, with excellent catering from the Southlands team and my brother has stayed in the guest room while visiting from overseas. Visitors have also enjoyed staying for lunch with Mum and the superbly kept gardens are a pleasure to see.
The last twelve months have been difficult for all of us. Southlands met the challenges of COVID head-on with clear advice to visitors and residents which have kept everyone safe.

My parents have lived in Southlands for 6 years. The care team are excellent, caring and professional. They and all the staff, whether admin, housekeeping or chefs have looked after the residents superbly over this last very traumatic year. The restrictions have been difficult for both residents and
families, but they have been Covid-free. At least, life inside carried on with activities etc, so even though we couldn't go in, they were so well looked after, and we were reassured.

Just over a year ago we visited Southlands by chance. We were warmly welcomed and shown around several apartments. On seeing one, my reaction was "I could live here", and by the end of that week, we made the decision to buy. We moved in at the end of July 2019 and are certain it was the right decision.
Staff are wonderful, unfailingly cheerful, helpful and supportive. We have our independence but also the reassurance of support if needed. We enjoy the meals in the dining room when it suits us and enjoy the activities we can share with other residents.

Just after my husband died in April 2018, I was diagnosed with vasculitis which took away the use of my hands and feet, a horrible situation. To cut a long story short, my daughter contacted Southlands, so I have been here one year. It has taken a bit of time, but I have progressed such a lot with the
help I have received here and I have a good rapport with the managerial staff and any problem is no sooner said than done.

On the 4th Movember 2019, I became the proud owner of my new apartment and I am looking forward very much to moving in permanently on 20th December during this period I have been daily at the apartment and have received such kindness, warmth and assistance form all the team and friendship and welcomed
from the residents who are happy and contented. I have been given so much help and advice from the entire team from head office through to all the team here.
I cannot praise them highly enough. At 88 years of age, it is all great appreciated by me and my family and I look forward to a happy and contented life here.

My mother required more help than could be provided at her "assisted living " flat. Southlands has provided a secure and comfortable environment which gives the family peace of mind. My mother eats well in the restaurant whilst enjoying the company of other residents. The staff genuinely care, the food
is good and the facilities are comfortable and welcoming.

I found the care excellent. I felt welcome and the staff both nurses and general staff are friendly, helpful and professional.
The food was a little "hit and miss" but apart from tea was adequate. A little more fruit and a lot less cake would have been welcomed but I was unable to get out to the shops
so I missed being able to "top-up" otherwise I was very happy.

This to me is the perfect set up - Dad has his own one-bed apartment, can sign up to whatever level of care he needs routinely but with access to a high level of 24/7 care as required. We did look at equally plush care homes but realised that residents tended to remain in their rooms so entertain their
visitors in their bedroom. Dad has a sitting room to entertain in.
The staff have been very accommodating and supportive.
Southlands is close to Oakwood shops and Roundhay Park.
Southlands has links with a local GP practice and the practice nurse routinely visits weekly. There is a link with a pharmacy that delivers promptly.
Southlands can provide a very similar level of care to a care home but you only pay for the care you actually use and you own the flat, which is significantly bigger than a care home room.
Southlands has at least two staff on overnight, whereas other warden supported setups tended to have just one person on duty overnight.
I have complete peace of mind.

The staff and surroundings are excellent. The nursing and support staff are always extremely kind and considerate and couldn't do more to assist residents and their families. People often comment Southlands Retirement Apartments is more like a luxury hotel.

As mum has only recently arrived at Southlands, our experience is limited to a week of staying here. However, apart from a minor accident which could have been prevented, the response and care has been very good.
The peace of mind knowing she has assisted care as required is good value for money.

My mother, aged 100+, went to stay in Southlands for 10 nights whilst her bathroom was replaced in her independent living flat. We didn't realise that respite care was available until we popped in. Despite our lack of appointment, we were welcomed and shown the accommodation. When my mother was having
a good day we took her again unannounced. Our experience was exactly the same. Great lengths were gone to welcome, integrate and to allow my mother her independence. Help was always on hand when needed. All of the staff introduced themselves to her and popped their heads in to make sure that she was well and happy. We can not praise Southlands enough. It was perfect for my mother's needs.

Overall Southlands is a very good facility offering a high standard of care support to its residents. My father has lived there for over year now and any problems we have raised have quickly been resolved. They offer a varied daily menu to choose from, the food is usually very good. The apartments are
cleaned weekly and there is a high standard of housekeeping throughout. To the outside there are wonderfully maintained gardens with an array of flowers, plants and shrubs.


One needs a good level of income in order to live there and sufficient capital to buy an apartment. As with all care facilities, there is a significant cost.

Catherine

Catherine Reuben

Job Title: Sales and Business Development Manager

Catherine joined Westward Care in July 2023.


She is responsible for managing Apartment Enquiries and sales across Headingley Hall and Southlands and developing business relationships with community groups and business partners.

Catherine has worked within the corporate sales sector for over 35 years which included working in a professional sports club, recruitment, and a premium luxury perfume brand.


She prides herself on building relationships with people and putting the customer first.


Having worked throughout the Covid pandemic in the care sector as a carer Catherine soon realised that it was a sector she wanted to work full time in.


With her love of sales and customer service she is delighted to ahve found a job that ticks both her passion for care alongside sales and business development.

Catherine loves being able to work with people and their families in finding their forever 'rightsize' home in later life and helping to make that process as smooth and stress free as possible.


Sharon

Sharon Earnshaw

Job Title: General Manager and Operations Manager

Joined: 2003

Sharon joined the care team at Headingley Hall in June 2003 as Deputy Manager and was promoted to Care Manager, taking on full responsibility for the care delivered to the residents in June 2011. She became the home’s General Manager in October 2012 and now is also the Operations Manager for Westward Care more widely.


Sharon has worked in care homes since leaving school at 17. She started as a Care Assistant and rose through the ranks to Senior Care Assistant and Residential Co-ordinator before leaving her first care home to join Headingley Hall. Sharon believes that good communication skills and developing excellent relationships with residents and their families are key to providing outstanding care and support to everyone.
