Care Workers’ Charity (CWC)

The Care Workers’ Charity supports nearly 2 million care workers, one of the largest workforces in the UK.

Care workers care for some of the most vulnerable people in our society and can often be on the minimum wage.

The CWC gives them emotional, financial and professional support.

Karolina Gerlich, chief executive at The Care Workers’ Charity says: “At The Care Workers’ Charity, we understand that job seekers in the care sector often face financial and emotional challenges when transitioning between roles or entering the profession. That’s why we offer essential support, from crisis grants to mental health resources, ensuring care workers can continue their invaluable work without unnecessary hardship.

“Whether you’re new to care or an experienced professional seeking stability, we’re here to help you thrive in your career. Through our advocacy and partnerships, we are also working to create better job opportunities, fair wages, and a more sustainable future for the care workforce.”

Crisis support

Unexpected challenges can strike at any time, and for care workers experiencing a crisis, the Care Workers’ Charity provides immediate financial aid. To date, they have awarded over £6.4 million to more than 12,900 care workers to help them through difficult times. Their dedicated Grants Team also provides signposting to essential services and resources, ensuring care workers receive comprehensive support.

Mental health and wellbeing initiatives

Caring for others can take an emotional toll, which is why the Care Workers’ Charity has partnered with Red Umbrella to provide free counselling sessions and Mental Health First Aider Training to care workers. So far, this initiative has supported over 575 care workers, helping them navigate mental health challenges while continuing their vital work.

Advocacy and campaigning

Care workers deserve fair treatment, better working conditions, and recognition for the essential role they play in society. Through their workforce advocacy programme, the Care Workers’ Charity fights for fair wages, improved training, and better working environments. By participating in policy discussions, advisory boards, and industry collaborations, they amplify the voices of care workers and push for meaningful change.

Care worker consultation and co-production

To ensure their work reflects the real needs of care workers, the Care Workers’ Charity actively involves them in decision-making through their Care Worker Advisory Board and events such as Professional Care Workers’ Week. Additionally, they have facilitated care worker participation in research projects with Oxford University (AI in social care), Possible (electric cars), and the Department of Health and Social Care (well-being survey with over 7,000 responses).

Events and fundraising: Get involved!

The Care Workers’ Charity’s work wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support of their community. Whether you’re looking to take on a fundraising challenge, attend an awareness event, or support them through corporate sponsorship, there are plenty of ways to get involved!

  • Fundraising Challenges: Recently, an amazing team took on a hiking challenge in the Lake District to raise money for CWC.
  • Wear It Orange Day: A nationwide event where supporters don orange to highlight the importance of care workers.
  • Advocacy Campaigns: Our “Choose Our Carers” campaign is a rallying cry to prioritise the needs of care workers in policy and decision-making.
