Job description

1. Prepare and cook food in a safe manner

2. Store all food at temperatures required by legislation

3. Be aware of service users dietary needs and respond to their comments in respect of the menu

4. Be involved in the preparation and serving of food

5. Hold a current food hygiene certificate to at least level 3 (Intermediate) or be working towards it

6. Minimise and dispose of waste correctly

7. Ensure that all food is used within the prescribed period

8. Be conversant with all the policies and procedures set down by the company

9. Inform the kitchen manager if you have any concerns regarding the kitchen or your duties

10. Ensure that access is denied to anyone other than kitchen staff (unless a white coat is worn and permission obtained)

11. Follow instructions given by the kitchen manager and/or the person in charge

12. Ensure that your personal hygiene standards meet those required by the company, and that you wear the uniform provided

13. Ensure chemicals and equipment are secured safely and correctly

14. Complete required paperwork to meet relevant legislation, e.g. Food temperatures, fridge temperatures

15. Co-operate with all the staff to create a relaxed, warm and comfortable environment for all the service users

16. Report all compliments, comments and/ or complaints

17. Secure service users and company's property and premises

18. Report any defects, damage, theft, breakages or hazards

19. Carry out other duties as will, from time to time, be directed

20. Carry out all duties in a safe manner having regard for the health, safety and welfare of self, staff, service users and other persons within the home

21. Undertake appropriate training and development to ensure statutory compliance and maintain appropriate professional registration

22. Participate in appraisal and supervision processes within the statutory guidelines

23. In accordance with the Health & Social Care Act 2008, the post holder will actively participate in the prevention and control of infection within the capacity of their role

ABOUT YOU

When you join us as part of the kitchen team, you’ll play a crucial role in the success of your care home. That’s why we’re looking for someone who’s committed to maintaining the highest standards in the kitchen and during the food preparation process. You should be reliable, considerate, and caring in your approach. Formal qualifications aren’t necessary, although any similar experience gained in a commercial or care setting would be useful.

NEED TO HAVE
• A personable and warm approach with a genuine interest in the wellbeing of residents
• Hold City & Guilds/NVQ/SVQ or equivalent
• A good understanding of nutrition
• Experience of working with fresh seasonal food
• The ability to create a warm and welcoming environment within our home
• Confidence engaging with residents to create appetising and nutritious menus
• Good understanding of HACCP

• Manage the kitchen in the Head Chef’s absence
• Assist Head Chef in menu development
• Work with fresh produce to deliver high quality and wholesome dishes cooked at the highest quality and standards
