The role
If you are new to this role and don't know the ins and outs, not to worry, let's walk through a typical night.
Once you arrive at the home, you will sign in and ensure everyone has collected their digital device for the night. Before the evening handover, you will meet with the senior team or managers from the day about what is to be discussed. The team on the day will let you know how everyone has been through the day, about medication and let you know what is scheduled for that night. After the evening handover, it is time to take the reins and lead by example.
You will direct and support a team of night carers to ensure all residents who wish to go to bed, have an evening bath or get ready for bed are supported to. You will also start the evening medication round. Whilst completing your medication round, you may receive requests for after you complete the medication round. such as to help fix up an evening snack or plate and hot or cold drink. All of which are available to everyone around the clock. After a busy day, our service users may also wish to put their feet up and watch a bit of evening TV or read a good book with a warm drink. But every night can be different, so we work around the clock to make sure everyone is cared for and to make them smile too.
Throughout the night you will be directing checks and checking on those who require night time support or attending to those who request your assistance. There will be plenty of opportunity for you to take your allocated breaks, but you will also be assigning and scheduling times for everyone else’s too. You will have the support of an emergency on call too.
By late evening you will initiate the cleaning of the home and its communal areas and by early morning ensuring our residents who may wish to get up and ready for the day ahead are supported to do so.
Before you finish, there will be a morning handover meeting. Where you will lead by sharing information of how everyone has been through the night and sharing any other important information to relevant persons and departments.
Experience and Qualifications
Experience and an NVQ L3 or higher is a bonus, but it's not a necessity. If you are a carer looking for a career promotion, then we will guide, support, and show you the ropes.
