JOB DESCRIPTION – NIGHT CARE ASSISTANT - 36 hours a week - 8pm - 8am
Whitehaven Care Home is looking for a night care assistants, this post is for 36 hours a week, 3 nightshifts a week, on a. two week rolling rota.
Qualifications: HSC L2 & Medication Training desirable
Willingness to undertake training to HSC L2 essential
Responsible to: Managing Director / Manager / Deputy Manager
Reports to: Senior Care Workers

Summary of role
Supporting the Managers and Senior Care Workers by:
Acting under the direction of senior carers, ensuring that care of the highest standard is delivered to all residents.
Assisting in the delivery and recording of care.
Acting as an associate key worker for a number of named residents.
Principle accountabilities 1: Key Working
1. Being an Associate Key Worker to an allocated group of residents, working under the direction of the Senior Care Workers.
2. Administering of Medication to Service Users and following safe working practices in relation to Medication Storage.
3. Assisting the Senior Care Workers in planning and delivering care to each resident for whom the individual is the Associate Key Worker.
4. Participating in the evaluation and review for each resident for whom the individual is the Associate Key Worker.
5. Maintaining excellent working relationships with the resident, their family, and visiting professionals for all residents.
6. When on duty, ensuring the residents for whom the individual is the Associate Key Worker have a tidy room, and that their clothing and equipment including pads are available and neatly stored.
Principle accountabilities 2: General Care Duties
1. Ensuring that planned care is delivered consistently and appropriately, facilitating rehabilitation and maximising independence with attention to the physical, mental, social and spiritual needs of the resident.
2. Participating fully in the overall care of residents, including washing, dressing, toileting, personal hygiene, nutritional and fluid intake, and activities.
3. Assisting in maintaining safe levels of care, and maintaining safe personal practice, following safe systems of work at all times.
4. Promotion of the values of the Home as set out in the Statement of Purpose.
5. Following the GSCC Code of Conduct, informing a Senior Manager or Senior Care Worker immediately of any breach of this Code or Whitehaven Care Home’s values, policies and procedures.
6. Assisting the Senior Care Workers in planning the care of each resident for whom the individual is the Associate Key Worker.
7. Participating in the evaluation and review of each resident for whom the individual is the Associate Key Worker, and making daily records on progress as appropriate.
8. Reporting on and feeding back any relevant issues to the Senior Care Worker on each resident’s care during each shift, particularly where issues affect the health, safety or welfare of the resident.
9. Attending mandatory training sessions as required.
10. Attending training sessions as agreed and required to maintain currency of knowledge and practice.
11. To report any accidents or incidents to a senior member of staff.
12. To ensure that the company policy on confidentiality is maintained.
13. Ensuring that breaks are taken only at appropriate times and do not adversely affect resident care, and that the permission of the Senior Care Worker is sought if there is a need to leave the building during shift times.
14. Being particularly vigilant in the prevention of abuse, including a duty to whistleblow if bad practice or harm to a resident is witnessed.
15. Ensuring that the uniform is worn in accordance with the company’s Uniform Policy.
16. Assisting in the welcoming, training and ‘buddying’ of new staff.
17. Undertaking any other tasks as reasonably requested by a senior member of staff or the Directors, including performing non-caring duties.
Pay rate dependent on experience and NVQ.
