Job Description – Care Assistant

Overview:

The Care Assistant’s role is to work as a part of a team delivering the highest standards of personalised care to residents. They ensure that everyone is treated with respect and dignity, and that each individual’s rights to privacy, dignity, independence and choice are met.

Reporting to:

Senior Care Assistant

What the job involves:

1 Providing the highest level of personal care (toileting, bathing etc) to residents, following individual care plans carefully. Acting as a key worker for a named group of residents.

2 Complying with all statutory and legal requirements and maintaining a safe environment throughout the home.

3 Always being alert to residents’ physical and mental well being, immediately reporting any changes in a resident’s condition to a senior person on duty.

4 Accurately maintaining and updating residents’ records.

5 Maintaining confidentiality of resident’s personal information at all times.

6 Encouraging, assisting and supporting residents to participate in leisure activities as appropriate to the individual, ensuring their social and emotional needs are met. This also includes escorting residents to outside appointments and leisure outings.

7 Making and changing beds, tidying resident’s rooms, undertaking light cleaning duties as needed and assisting in ensuring that the home is kept clean and welcoming at all times.

8 Helping to serve meals and drinks, taking care to present meals and refreshments in an attractive way, with polite and courteous service. Providing appropriate levels of support and help for residents who need assistance with feeding.

9 Being an active and supportive member of the team ensuring that the care home is a friendly and supportive working environment.

10 To participate in all training provided by the home.

11 Deal with relatives/visitors in a polite and friendly manner

12 Reporting any incidents of suspected abuse in line with the Safe Guarding Adults policy

What we are looking for:

Nvq level 2 preferred (although not essential)

Experience in a similar role

Good numeric and literacy skills

A warm and friendly disposition

Good communication skills, able to put others at ease

Strong team working abilities

Reliability and punctuality

A willingness to develop new skills
