Job description

Purpose of Position

1. As a senior care worker to the care team to supervise, guide and work alongside the care staff in carrying out general care duties (General duties outlined in Care Assistant Job Description).

As a support to the management team reporting to the Managers and have the knowledge to provide relief cover to the Managers in time of absence.

2. By teaching and example to help train and support junior members of the care staff in all aspects of their work in the home.

3. When ‘standing in’ for an absent Manager, to control the issues of drugs for which the home has taken responsibility and to maintain the necessary records. To deal with general enquiries and to oversee the health and welfare of the residents.

4. To participate in the development of activities for residents providing a person centred focus which will enhance their quality of life.

5. To participate in staff meeting and in staff training and development activities.

6. To support the Home Manager in his/her duties as the ‘Registered Manager’ for the home under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, Care Standards Act 2000, The Care Act 2014 and Equality Act 2010.

7. To be the Home’s appointed First Aider when on duty and to hold a First Aid at Work Certificate.

8. To assist with the maintenance of such records as may be required by the registering authority of the Home Manager.

9. When covering the absence of a Manager or a member of the care team, the ability to work flexible hours will be necessary.

10. Such other duties as may be required commensurate with the position.

11. Experience in caring for the elderly essential at NVQ/QCF Level 3. Training to carry out relief management duties will be provided.

Alternate weekend shifts - enhanced rate of pay on a Sunday (time and a half). 

Shifts are 7am-2pm or 2pm - 9pm
