ROLE:             DEPUTY MANAGER

ACCOUNTABLE TO:       MANAGER

JOB SUMMARY:

To assist and where necessary deputise for the Manager. The supervision and control of all staff during a span of duty. To maintain high standards of professional and humane care with an emphasis of using those professional and personal skills for the promotion of dignity, respect and quality of life of clients in his/her care.  To maintain a model of care based upon the principles of individualised personal care.

Liaison with Manager regarding all aspects of client welfare and ongoing staff training, development and appraisals.  The introduction and promotion of quality assurance measures within the Home.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1.   Overall responsibility for the security of drugs, drug cabinet(s), maintenance of good practice in drug administration.
2.   When supplies of prescribed drugs are low the Deputy Manager is to follow the procedure to re-ordering.  As new medications are received they must be checked, signed for and recorded.
3.   The post holder is expected to liase with the clients own GP, hospital, relatives and other caring agencies relevant to the welfare of the patient.
4.   To ensure the highest positive professional image of the Home within the community through personal and professional contribution.
5.   To assist the Manager to introduce and promote quality assurance methods within the Home.
6.   To participate in in-service training programmes, assisting in the organising and supervision of training sessions with the Home.
7.   Assist the Manager in the recruitment process when requested to do so.
8.   Assist the Manager to orientate new members of staff to the Home environment, introducing them to their particular duties.
9.   Liase with support/ancillary services in the Managers absence.
10.   To seek to improve his/her skills in order to contribute to the development of the Home and to prepare for promotion opportunities.

Skills / Qualifications:

  • NVQ Level 3 or 4/5 in Health & Social Care or Level 3 or 4/5 in Leadership & Management
