Director of Finance, Family-Run Care Home Business, Exeter

Part time – 3 days a week

Are you an experienced financial leader looking to make a real impact in a values-driven, family-run business?

Do you want to drive real change, shape a growing business, and make a meaningful impact in a sector that truly matters?

We are seeking a Director of Finance to join our leadership team as the strategic backbone to play a pivotal role in shaping the financial future of our growing care home group.

About Us

We are a small but expanding family-run business dedicated to providing high-quality care and support. Our values-driven approach places people at the heart of everything we do – from our residents to our dedicated staff.

The role

This is a newly created position, reflects our ambition after 20 years of trading for continued long-term success, sustainability and growth. As Director of Finance, you will provide strategic financial leadership, ensuring the business remains profitable, resilient, and well-positioned for growth.

This isn’t just about spreadsheets and balance sheets—it’s about people, purpose, and progress.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the financial strategy and shape our future by ensuring profitability, sustainability, and growth.
  • Drive financial performance and improve cash flow management.
  • Optimise financial systems, processes, and controls to enhance efficiency.
  • Providing strategic insights, supporting the leadership team with data-driven decision-making.
  • Ensure full legal and tax compliance, managing risk effectively.
  • Identify and secure funding opportunities where necessary.
  • Inspire and engage teams with a high level of emotional intelligence and empathy.

What we’re looking for:

  • We need an inspirational leader who can combine financial expertise with a deep understanding of the care sector’s unique challenges.
  • You should be commercially astute, hands-on, and able to foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Proven experience in a senior financial role (Finance Director, Head of Finance, CFO, etc.).
  • Strong commercial acumen and ability to drive financial performance.
  • Expertise in cash flow management, financial planning, and risk management.
  • Experience implementing financial systems and controls.
  • High emotional intelligence with the ability to engage and inspire teams.
  • Experience in the care sector or a similar people-focused business (desirable).

Why join us?

  • A unique opportunity to shape the financial future of a growing, family-run business.
  • A chance to make a real difference in a purpose-led organisation.
  • Be part of something meaningful – we’re not a corporate giant; we’re a close-knit, values-driven team that puts people first.
  • Work where finance meets purpose – help us improve profitability while fostering a culture of care, collaboration, and excellence.
  • A supportive and collaborative work environment where your expertise will be valued.

If you’re a strategic thinker who thrives in a values-driven environment and wants to make a tangible impact, we’d love to hear from you.
