Domestic Abuse Navigator

We are seeking a Domestic Abuse Navigator to support and empower deaf individuals affected by domestic abuse. This is a vital role providing access to information, advice, and resources in British Sign Language (BSL) to ensure safety and wellbeing.

Position: Domestic Abuse Navigator
Salary: £18,375.73 (£30,904.64 FTE)
Location: Flexible/work from home with occasional travel (Kent)
Hours: Part-time, 22 hours per week - The working days will be flexible to suit the new post holder (with a set working pattern agreed). There will be some occasional weekend working required in this role
Contract: Fixed term until 31 March 2026

About the Role

As a Domestic Abuse Navigator, you will work closely with the deaf community, providing essential information, guidance, and advocacy for individuals experiencing domestic abuse or sexual violence. You will raise awareness, develop educational resources, and deliver workshops both online and in person. Additionally, you will collaborate with professionals to enhance their understanding of barriers faced by deaf individuals and improve service accessibility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research gaps in knowledge regarding domestic abuse in the deaf community.
  • Plan and deliver community engagement activities, including workshops and webinars.
  • Provide information and advice in BSL to deaf individuals, ensuring their safety and wellbeing.
  • Build relationships with stakeholders such as deaf clubs, local authorities, and domestic abuse services.
  • Support deaf victims/survivors with trauma-informed care and signposting to appropriate services.
  • Facilitate Freedom Programme courses and peer support groups.
  • Monitor and manage referrals via the advice line, providing initial assessments and support.
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding policies and GDPR regulations.

About You

We are looking for a compassionate and proactive individual with a strong understanding of the needs of the deaf community.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • BSL as a first language or minimum BSL Level 3.
  • Strong communication and networking skills.
  • Experience working with deaf individuals across different age groups.
  • Experience in delivering workshops and community engagement activities.
  • Knowledge of domestic abuse, sexual violence, and related safeguarding issues.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a remote team.
