Senior carer/ Team leader/ Head of Care

Role and Responsibilities

This role would suit someone:

With experience in caring for residents with Dementia or Alzheimer’s and / or with a nursing qualification in the similar setting or a relevant clinical setting.

Required

  • Previous 12 months’ experience in a senior role at care home, nursing homes  or having a clinical qualification is essential.
  • Previous experience of working with residents with Dementia and or elderly.
  • Be able to work up to 40 hours a week, including some weekends and night shifts.
  • NVQ Level 3 in Care, clinical qualification or willingness to work towards a recognized qualification.
  • Be able to work unsupervised.
  • Ability to manage pressure and conflicting demands and prioritize tasks.
  • Willingness to participate in training.
  • Satisfactory Reference and DBS clearance.
  • Monitor and maintain health, safety and security of self and others.
  • Be able to carry out basic clinical observations of blood pressure, pulse, temperature, oxygen saturation, weight and urine tests.
  • Contribute to the improvement of services.
  • Provide written resident care plans.
  • Provide evaluation of care plans implementing changes in care when outcome of care does not meet the goals of the care plan.
  • Administer medication and treatments as prescribed in accordance with relevant guidelines.
  • Ensure the ordering and returning of drugs and to keep all documentation uptodate.
  • Ensure that staff levels / rota are adhered to.
  • Maintain good communication with all staff members; and external stakeholders including Residents’ families, GP, Social Services, etc.
  • Ensure that all quality and risk assessments are maintained with Residents and family involvement.
  • Communicate effectively with other team members.
  • Communicate effectively with Residents, families, visitors and other health and social care professionals.
  • Recognise Residents’ needs for alternative methods of communication and respond accordingly.
  • Ensure the highest possible levels of care are maintained by supporting / assisting residents when required, with all aspects of daily living.
  • Support training and supervision of junior and new Staff Members in all aspects of their work in the Home, under the supervision of senior Staff Members.
  • Flexible and able to do both day and night duty.

Skills / Qualifications:

  • Previous experince in Elderly care or dementia care
  • Be able to identify changes in elderly residents and be able to carry out basic clinical observations and escalate any changes.
  • Good command of spoken and written English
  • Mature and proven track record of work experience in a similar setting or a relevant clinical setting
  • Clinical background in general nursing or dementia / elderly care nursing is desirable. Does not require UK NMC registration.
