This year’s Pinders Healthcare Design Awards have once again chosen the best designed care homes and independent living housing.

The event, which was hosted by broadcaster, Sir David Frost, is now in its 13th year.

During this time, it has raised over £300,000 for charitable causes, through donations of attendees and sponsorship by organisations such as Santander, Lloyds Bank, and Chandler & Co.

There were six winners at the awards which aim to promote and recognise the very best developments in all types of care-related property.

Anisha Grange Care Home in Billericay scooped the award for the best large new build in the care home for the elderly award, the two runners up were Kentford Manor in Kennett and Peaker Park in Market Harborough.

This was the second year running, that Hallmark Care Homes has won this award, with Alexandra Grange care home winning it last year.

Avnish Goyal, managing director of Hallmark Care Homes said: “We are absolutely delighted to win this award. The team enjoys expanding our design initiatives and pushing boundaries in what we can achieve with each new home.”

He added: “A huge amount of energy goes into planning our homes and getting the design just right to enable our residents to live active, fulfilled lives.”

Anisha Grange was also named ‘The UKs Best New Care Home’ at the over 50s Housing Awards and reached the finals of the recent Laing & Buisson Independent Specialist Care Awards.

The home provides residential, nursing and dementia care, and facilities include IT suites and library, a therapy room, garden café, and even a pub. Outside, the home has been commended for its sensory dementia garden and vintage centerpiece – a Morris Minor.

The Millbrook Care Centre in Stalybridge won the award for the best small new build in the care home for elderly award. The runners up were Baylham Care Centre in Baylham and Newstone House in Sturminster Newton.

Built in the conservation area of Millbrook in Stalybridge, the home owned by Meridian Healthcare provides personal care services for people requiring respite or long term care.

The home offers luxury accommodation and includes a hairdressing salon, piano lounge, library and cinema on site for the pleasure of residents. Architects Quadrant ABS worked with Tameside planners to preserve the look and feel of the original school and many of the original features.

The resulting building has airy lounge and restaurant areas, light rooms and benefits from being at the centre of Millbrook village. As an added bonus, residents can sit on the sheltered sun desk or in one of the lounges with views of the nearby hills.

The best large redevelopment project was Nightingale – The Wohl Building in London and the runners up were Bradbury Grange in Whitstable and Overton House in Cottingham.

However, what sets Askham Court apart is that a detailed assessment of each client is carried out upon their arrival, this will establish any reablement or rehabilitation programme that will aim to improve client mobility and enable greater independence or, where possible, an earlier return to their own home. Continued outpatient support where deemed necessary is then available.”
